The two sides of Walt: smart enough to eventually come up with a plausible explanation for the missing phone call. Careless and inattentive enough to not realize that Skyler would instantly know he's lying because he's speaking more words to her in that kitchen than he probably has in the last three months combined.

You are right, even when there seems to not be a lot happening, there is a lot happening hahaha, great show and great writing. Stop rooting for the bad guys, hahahah just kidding.

And yeah it’s going to take a little while for these intro scenes to come to a conclusion…and it’s a real mind blower

Grizzly

Absolutely brilliant writing. And it just keeps getting better. Buckle up because it’s going to be a wild and bumpy ride.

What I am finding in rewatching this is how important the "dull" moments are. Just a masterclass in writing. Also, of course Brian and Aaron are amazing, but Anna Gunn nails it as an actress.

holy shit. a for real "skylar is terrible" in the wild. But youre right, in a very weird corner of the internet she truly is considered one of the most hated characters

Once in a lifetime writing, it gets better and better with each episode, and arguably the best characters you haven’t met yet. Exciting times ahead 😀

Unfortuantely you can't just put someone into rehab and have it work, you can do it sure, will it have the effect you want? They have to WANT to go to rehab, Jesse needs to want to make a change or he WILL revert to old habits. His parents gave him chance after chance, the soft approach didn't work. Maybe tough love will.

You used the word "complex" in your outro and that is a perfect word for this show, the characters, and the situations. Also, the titles of the shows usually have meaning. Some are obvious and some become clearer later. This one has meanings that are both obvious, because the main characters at a down time in this episode, and something you can't possibly understand right now but will see the brilliance of later.

Yeah I have no sympathy for Skylar.. what she is doing is plain childish. Yes he is lying to her.. but acting that way in return when she knows he is dying is pure being an asshole.. and actually her character is considered one of the most hated characters on tv.

Vince Gilligan's shows are very disciplined in refusing to judge any of its characters. Their actions speak for themselves, but it's not the responsibility of the writer to have their main character parrot the moral "message" of the show. A good example is when Walt is dividing up the money into halfs at the end and, after a moment's hesitation, chooses to leave himself the bigger half. Another writer might have been tempted to have him give Jesse the larger half as a way to provoke an easy "aw" from the audience, but, no, Walt does what most people in his situation would likely do without any people or cameras watching him. And yeah, Skylar lighting up at the end of the episode is both distressing but also more honest than most of us would like to admit. Whether it's drugs, kleptomania, or violence, pretty much everyone in this show has a crutch they fall back on when they feel disregulated, with the possible exception of Hank who might just be the only character who's entirely content with his life, haha. As always, your reactions are nuanced and on the money, but man...is more confusion coming your way!
