Hank Aaron got a lot of hate mail and death threats when he was close to breaking the record.

This movie is so nostalgic for me. I spent my childhood right there in "The Valley" as Smalls explained were they moved to. It's North of Los Angeles. I was there in the late 70's and spent my teenage years in the 80's. My Mom was very much like Smalls Mom, she would tell us to go out and play and not to come home until the streetlights came on. I had a group of friends and we's ride our bikes everywhere. Back when kids could still do that. I was the same age as the Stranger Things kids during the 80's and just like that show, my friends would also ride our bikes to the Mall, go to the neighborhood pool or hang out at a Friends house. I could do what I wanted as long as I was home for dinner or called to tell my mom I was staying at my friend's for dinner. It was such a different time. We didn't schedule playdates and we would walk to school. Anyway, I could go on. Thanks Teegan, memories are flooding back.

Looking...looking... I don't see a subscription button, bell button, or link in the description. Hm. First saw this one I was close to their ages (probs a year or so younger), so I totally bought into the Beast hype. When you mentioned about how one of them could be a snackrific-I mean, distraction, I was wondering which one would be sent. Then the repetitive kid brother spoke and even though I'm one myself my mind went "That one. Get him in the steak suit."

I may have heard of this movie somewhere but I knew nothing about it and never would have seen it if not for your channel. I absolutely loved it! I'm older than you and this brought back such a nostalgic feeling for the family friends and community I experienced around this age. As you said this is a warm and comforting film which helps rekindle some of what has been lost. Great reaction!

James Earl Jones has another baseball film… The Bingo Long Traveling All-Stars & Motor Kings (1976), also starring Billy Dee Williams and Richard Pryor.

Hank Aaron played from 1954 to 1976.

Yes!!! Such a wonderful movie. This is so similar to my childhood. I grew up in a very small town and we had very few things to do during the summers…baseball, the swimming pool (but no lifeguards like Wendy), the bowling alley, and just running around through the woods. We would get up, ride our bikes around town, play ball anywhere we could, and of course we had our youth baseball teams and the real field. If there weren’t any official games being played, we played there whenever we could. I was so fortunate to grow up in the 70s and 80s and have a childhood so similar to this. Thank you so much for sharing.

This movie is a perfect example of perception vs reality. As kids we all had that problem where we over dramatized everything because we didnt know any better. I grew up in the 80s and it was very similar to this story.. we werent allowed inside until the street lamps came on and I too had a group of friends like this.. we didnt play baseball.. but we hung out every day especially during summer and getting into misadventures. We even had a pool that we went to on our bikes a lot and it kinda looked like this one.. it even had that grassy path leading up to it..I miss it so much and its sad that things arent like that anymore. Its neat that James Earl Jones is in this and Field of Dreams.. I guess he liked making movies about baseball when we wasnt voicing Darth Vader. Thanks for watching this Tee.. it was great to relive this movie thru your eyes. And OMG.. I just realized some similarities this has with Stand By Me.. they both have an adult voice over commentary and they both have a dog in it that they think is bigger than it is. Neat.

L7 means a square. Henry/Hank Aaron is the player who broke Babe Ruth's all-time home run record of 714 some years later in 1974 (the movie was in 1962, the year after Roger Maris beat Ruth's single-season home run record of 60). Hank Aaron finished his career with 755 home runs, which was the record until Barry Bonds beat that in 2007 and finished with 762, which stands as the current record.

The Baseball Card that Babe Ruth took from Benny in his dream was Hank Aaron's baseball card, he was the baseball player who broke Babe Ruth's Homerun Record which lasted for like 40 years

You’re killing me, Smalls! This definitely reminds me of the group I went to the park to play sports with as a child. We had the nicknames too. Goldy, E-Train, Tweetie Bird, Meat Hook, etc. Mine was just plain “T” until high school when it got spiced up to T-Zilla.

If any movie is going to make you wish you could be a kid again, this is it. To be able to relive those carefree days of summer, when the only cares in the world you had were…is it raining outside? Because I need to go outside and hang with my friends…and what are we going to do today? If there is one character in this movie I can totally relate to, it’s Squints. I was the skinny kid with glasses, and I had a serious crush on one of my older sister’s friends. However, I didn’t have the cojones to pull off a stunt like Squints did at the pool 😂 And of course…we get to hear those magical vocal cords of James Earl Jones again. Looks like I’ll be cleaning off the lenses of my nostalgia glasses tonight. Can’t wait to revisit this gem with you.
