Question of the Week! 7

Hello everyone, I hope your Wednesday is going good so far <3 Halfway through the week, woo! I'm really excited for this Friday's roleplay since it's a story/idea I had when I was younger. I took it and made it into a roleplay haha! Hint: Its fantasy themed with two characters this time around.

This week I wanted to ask you: what are your hobbies or interests- is there anything in particular that you're really into when you're not busy?

I've mentioned this before, but for me it would definitely be reading. I've always been a big fan of books, not just reading them but collecting them too. I admittedly need more bookshelves because I have books just stacked up in places.

One hobby/interest I've always wanted to get into is computer building. I'd really love to build myself a gaming PC one day, so sometimes during my free time I like to watch videos about it. I still have a lot to learn but it's really interesting :)

Comments

As long as you were able to understand it eventually that's good lol. Fangames can be really neat! I know there's one called JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: The 7th Stand User where you take a small personality quiz to determine what your Stand is and I always thought that was really cool. Too bad I don't think that will ever be in an official game. I also am not sure if that game is in English either tbh

JokermanTalon

That reminds me of this old game I played a while back. It wasn't exactly...how should I say...legit lol. I mentioned being a huge FMA fan and there was a Chinese fanmade game of it- beautiful art and story. I couldn't read a single word though so I looked EVERYWHERE for translations lol. All in all, I was able to somewhat understand what was going on, but it sure took a while xD

alichu

Thankfully Gundam Breaker 3 was on the PS4 which is not region locked, I don't think the PS5 is either for that matter. So it was really easy to set up. It did cost about $40 in shipping though lol. Also while the game worked fine, I wanted to buy DLC for it and that required me to setup a Hong Kong PSN account and that was a whole process. Overall though it is a shame that some games just don't come to the west for whatever reason. The Legend of Heroes games I've mentioned before are like 3 or 4 games behind in the west cause they just don't translate them as they make them. Some people in the community make spreadsheets of all the dialogue translated for people if they want to play them before they come out in the west. But it always seemed like a massive hassle to me so I'll just wait the extra years for the official translations lol.

JokermanTalon

The fact you got a game that was never released in the west is super cool. Maybe it's because I was never able to play dot hack fragment that I find that awesome. I always told myself I'd get a Japanese PlayStation and learn Japanese when I was young so I could play it. Alas, I learned some Japanese (not nearly enough) but never got the region Playstation :') lol. I appreciate the support! I've been watching a lot of videos on computer building in my spare time. It will probably be a while before I'm able to do anything, but it's definitely something I've always wanted to do!

alichu

Very nice! I think it's cool when there are various medias of a series- games, books, comics, etc. It really makes the world feel alive :) As for me, I enjoy older books/stories the most. I've been trying to get through Brave New World but it's a lot of info thrown at me at once and I'm trying to keep up lol.

alichu

Very nice! I'll just finished reading Nasty Kat and I really enjoyed that! That was a cool little comic- I especially liked the dragon fight :P

alichu

You right, I was a band kid indeed. All through middle school and high school in fact, a full seven years haha

Secular Succotash

Wow, you have quite a few hobbies- that's really cool! I remember you mentioning playing the guitar before, I didn't know about the piano and trumpet though, very nice! That's really impressive that you can play multiple instruments. I'm going to take it you were a band kid? :) Ammo is expensive indeed. You instantly reminded me why I haven't gone shooting myself in a very long time. It got to a point where I just couldn't afford to keep the hobby up anymore. Unless of course one of my family members offered, in which case I will gladly use some of their ammo hehe :P

alichu

I’ve a couple hobbies actually. My main ones are videogames, drawing, and going to the gym. I also love going to the movies, I’m actually not a huge movie watcher at home though. It’s mainly about the theatre experience. I’m real into guns, and go to the range every other month, though never as frequently as I’d like! Ammo expensive. I also like playing the guitar and piano. Even if I only know a handful of chords and songs, it’s still fun and it’s enough to impress others for that sweet sweet validation haha (The only instrument I’m truly fluent in is the trumpet. However I live in an apartment so I don’t really play it anymore. Don’t think my neighbors would appreciate a brass instrument blaring through the walls lol)

Secular Succotash

Thanks for sharing some of your hobbies, I enjoy getting to know what people are into <3 That's really cool that you've been playing the guitar! That's something I've always wanted to try but never took the time to do. Being able to play any instrument is awesome, but I enjoy the guitar most given the type of music I like hehe :P I grew up in the middle of nowhere, but reading your comment made me think of the times my friends and I would go out and explore in the woods. It's crazy how even if you live somewhere your whole life and feel like you know it well, you can still find some crazy stuff out there- like abandoned buildings, old graveyards, things like that. I had a few scares growing up, but overall, it was fun and interesting :)

alichu

Yeah I just had my battery replaced so it was still under warranty so didn't cost me anything, money wise at least lol. Time wise it sucked especially as I am getting to the climax of the G.U. games! Hope your car troubles haven't been too bad. Gundams are cool but there is a lot of different things out there. Bandai Namco makes so many different things! I have kits from them for Boba Fett and General Grievous from Star Wars. Kotobukiya is also pretty good, I got my first model kit from them and it was Eva Unit 01 from Evangelion. I got into the hobby in a very strange way, I imported a game called Gundam Breaker 3 from Hong Kong as the game never released in the west, but the Hong Kong version had a complete English translation. But the game is essentially about model kit building and then using them in a virtual world to beat up other people's robot and I said, "I want to do that" lol. So like Sir Skelington, after my Eva kit, I just picked Gundam's that looked cool to build, although I have watched a bit of Gundam now. Also I didn't mention it before as I don't really consider it my hobby, but I have replaced nearly every part in my PC, including the motherboard, so I think I can say that I have complete confidence that you can build one if you want! If you're already looking at videos you have an awesome start.

JokermanTalon

I'm one of those who struggle to follow storylines in video games. So after finishing the Secret Crusade book (absolutely brilliant), I'm currently on Assassin's Creed: Renaissance which basically tells the events of AC2. What about yourself? As for the music, thanks! Trust me, you'll know it the second I share my music because I don't think I'd be able to contain my excitement. :D

Artilleries

I'm glad the weekends almost here, these past few weeks been just chaos like damn. I used to have more active hobbies but it's hard to find the time anymore t.t past work, I spend most of the time with friends shooting jokes and exploring the city and stuff, lots of shows to go to and abandoned buildings to rife thru and parks to wander. And dancefloors to visit yee. Tho I'm an unlearned hermit, by habit I tend to ghost into the void every few days and just play music and bass guitar all night. Only been playing for a year and a half but Im relentless. I wanna get a lil drum machine and makeshift some beats. Trying acustic guitar too but chords are mean bastards sometimes. Still working on it. Gettin gud takes forever. I like to write more than i like to read, but I got half a million books stashed in boxes cuz I move all the time. One glance at my bookshelf and all I have unpacked are weird, occult books. So I guess that's a hobby... allbeit one I don't talk about. Only mentioned cuz y'all seem cool. I like the people here :) a bunch of dorks but I'm absolutely charmed. I guess my truest hobby is finding cool, weird things in the dark cozy corners of life. Good luck on the PC, everytime I get the means to make one, something horrible happens that devours my money so like whatever, heck to it

dead to me

Oh my gosh, I really related to your comment! I remember that guy from the movie and I think in some way he left some sort of impression on me too. I think they gave a card to the people who saw that movie in theaters, which only added fuel to the fire of me wanting to collect at such a young age lol. Ngl, you made me want to watch that movie now.

alichu

I read your comment and I had to make sure that it wasn't perhaps an alternate version of me lol. I'm also your typical weeaboo who enjoys browsing pixiv. I still exercise frequently but man, I use to be really into it a few years back. I got really into diet and muscle building for a while there. That's really awesome though, so much respect! Naotoshi Shida was an animator for Dragon Ball I think? Very nice! I looked up Sakuga Mad stuff on youtube and I have so say, that those videos were awesome. I happened to find one that showed some Blood + fights and it really made me want to watch that again :)

alichu

I used to love the history channel as well, it was my original asmr lol, still watch some of their stuff they uploaded to youtube. I really want a ktm 790 duke, it looks like a orange bug, my dad has a hayabusa which has like 3 times the horsepower, not sure I'll ever go as crazy as him.

Sir Skelington

Very nice! It's always fun to learn about different things so I can definitely relate :) Puzzles are fun too! I haven't put one together in a while now, but it's very relaxing for sure.

alichu

I really enjoy historical things too! I was one of those kids growing up that enjoyed when my grandpa would leave on the history channel lol :P I'm guilty of buying books and not reading them also. The list of books I need to read is so long there's no way I'll get through it all lol. Motorcycle riding, very nice! My step dad is really into motorcycles too. The only thing I know is that it was fun to ride as a passenger lol. That's really cool though! Do you have a certain motorcycle that you'd like to have?

alichu

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about the car troubles. I'm glad you can pick it up though, so that's good! I've had my fair share of car troubles this past year, so I definitely understand. The model kit hobby is super cool! I always thought those Gundam models that people made were so awesome. I really enjoyed Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny growing up. I need to get myself a proper Gundam figure haha!

alichu

Do you remember Lawrence III? He was the antagonist for the Pokemon 2000 movie. When you ask what type of interest or hobbies, I may have all I can think of is that guy. I don't know if it's because I watched it as a kid, but he made an impression. So, much like him, I am a collector! I would say that is where my interests started and although I do not always have time to do it in a way I deem proper, I still try to collect some of everything. Mangas, Cards (collectible and trading) Movies, shows, games, gems really anything I can get my hands on. I can assure you everything is also put away in a designated spot lol I re-read what I said and wanted to make it clear that I am not a hoarder.

Phosphophyllite

I'm still in the process of recording it, but I think Friday's audio will be on the longer side, lots of dialogue with two characters going on haha! I'm having a lot of fun with it though :) I feel you on the audiobooks. Some stories are fine for me to listen to, but others I'm just like, hold up- I need to just read that myself lol. Ngl, the lockpicking hobby is really cool. If this were Skyrim, I bet you'd have maxed out lockpicking skill :P Just don't let the guards catch you! lol

alichu

I'm glad you like my art. When I start a new comic I'll let you know; I do have an old one you can read on webtoon called Nasty Kat. I was a choir kid in school, and sang tenor. I don't have much of a preference of what kinds of songs I sing, so am pretty flexible.

Kai Zomei

Oh, what book are you reading if you don't mind me asking? That's really awesome about music producing! I know a lot of work and time goes into that, so much respect for that. Whenever you publish some tracks let me know and I'll be sure to give them a listen :)

alichu

That's really awesome! I enjoy seeing your art on twitter- be sure to let me know when your comic is out :) Outside of my theatre classes, I was always too embarrassed to try singing. I admit it's something I've always had an interest in though. Any particular music or songs you enjoy singing the most?

alichu

I have way too many hobbies I watch anime and read manga like a stereotypical weeaboo. Lately I've been really into comics. Supergirl comics are my favorite. She's like superman with more personality. I spend a lot of time listening to music, mostly japanese stuff I really like chinese dramas and movies. Don't really like k-dramas or j-dramas but c-dramas are really interesting. House of flying daggers is the best movie ever I like to browse pixiv. Mostly I appreciate landscape shots I'm into sakuga. My favorite animator is naotoshi shida. If you're curious go to sakugabooru or search for a sakuga mad on youtube. I make sure to keep a good exercise routine lifting weights and doing cardio. I usually get 10km on the treadmill every day. And of course I like to listen to asmr!

cloudberrybob

I’ve always found in an I interest in researching all sorts of different things! Also puzzles they can be very fun to put together over time!

Vince

Other than video games, I really enjoy learning just about anything historical so listening to podcast or videos about events or people or even structures. I really should start reading more but every time I get a new book I'm like sweet, when I have the time I'll definitely read this, and then I never do. I also really enjoy painting miniatures, there is something really satisfying about it. I also sometimes build gundam kits but I'm not really into the shows so I just say oh look cool robot I want to build, I will eventually paint those as well but different process. Also, and the reason I recently defended moto man/bike boy, was because I'm starting to get into motorcycle riding. Before I got my pc I also spent a while just learning everything about them, from building them to the best parts and cooling, but I always wanted someone else to build it because if something went wrong I didn't want it to be my fault and have to buy a new part.

Sir Skelington

My Wednesday is going well, my Tuesday didn't tho lol. My car was having battery issues yesterday so I had to take it to an auto shop. It's done now though and I can pick it back up so that's good. Looking forward to the Friday audio, should be good if the idea has been in your thoughts for so long. For hobbies I really only play Video Games the majority of time but I think that might be evident if anyone has read my prior responses. When I have extra money though I love to make/paint model kits! My last one being Gundam Barbatos. I love listening to music but it's more so just in addition to anything else I am doing. Finally, when I'm in the mood I'll watch like 40 episodes of anime and then just not watch anything for the next 4-5 months

JokermanTalon

Stoked for Friday's audio, was wondering what you had in mind when you said 'alichu's choice' in the poll. I used to be a big reader but these days I mostly use audiobooks, just because it's easier to fit into my day. They do have limitations though, I tried to listen through some of H.P Lovecraft's books but I kept getting lost because I find it harder to remember details when listening compared to actually reading haha. Personally I love video games, camping and I've been trying to learn lockpicking lately. Nothing nefarious I promise, it's like a puzzle only you can't see the pieces, and I found it's also much harder than it looks unfortunately...

codytachi

Happy Wednesday to you too. Looking forward to that audio you're excited about. I need to get back into my nightly read on the book I'm currently on, it's always nice & relaxing before bed. As for my hobbies; as well as listening to music, I also enjoy producing it. So glad I finally finished my exams, means I've got so much time to not only practice my art - but also music. Some day I might even publish some tracks. I also really love photography. Been a while since I captured something (mainly landscape photograph), but I have a massive collection. Other than that I'm an avid gamer. It's cool that you're interested in PC-bulding. I can just imagine Ali in a little engineer's uniform. Haha

Artilleries

My Wednesday is going decently enough. I've been a man of many hobbies growing up. Main one I currently have time for is drawing, but would like to become a comic artist with this hobby. I'm also into singing and used to practice karate. I have interests in history, language (been studying Japanese), and a bit of science and technology. I don't read much, but used to make a habit of reading manga back in highschool. I try to play videogames and watch anime when I can.
