Roleplay Poll 5!

Good morning, afternoon, or night. I hope you all had a nice and chill weekend :) As for me, I got some time to catch up on a bit on Honkai Star Rail, but now it's back to work! This week I thought it would be fun to do a post apocalyptic audio- despite the theme I still want to make it relaxing lol.

My question for you all is: what character role would you like me to play in this setting? If you have any recommendations on what kind of world you'd like this to be feel free to comment! I'm not sure if I want to go the zombie route or maybe a different type of monster.

Comments

I understand that Johnny Yong Bosch is very good! Me and my friend recently watched Trigun Stampede as he is a big Trigun fan and was happy that Johnny was back to play Vash. There's still 2 more games so maybe Kuhn can turn it around. (Maybe 3 more, there's a vol 4 on Last Recode and my friend doesn't know what or how long it is lol). I can only imagine smol Ali getting super excited! As a white dude I unfortunately can't really relate to that experience lol. However, I am very tired of male leads in the vast majority of everything and crave variety. So seeing a female lead right out of the gate for what is now a long running franchise was great! And she still shows up often even if she isn't the main character anymore, a lot of the games she's even still a party member. Also glad you liked it! I may not be able to get people to play a massive franchise, but I'll share things I find cool from it. Which is usually this song or the mechs later that are controlled by magic.

I totally get that about Kuhn. He really started to remind me of Miroku from Inuyasha the more I learned about him. I'll give him a few points though since his English voice actor is one of my favorites haha! It is really cool seeing a female lead in JRPGs, especially in an old series like you said. I still remember when Pokemon Cystal came out and how excited I was to finally play as a girl. I gave a listen to that battle theme, and it was awesome! I can definitely see myself fighting some boss or enemy with that playing. Really gives me JRPG vibes.

I just finished Rebirth last night, and I really enjoyed Pi and Silabus as well as Alkaid. I liked Kuhn in most of the main story but I can't stand ladies man characters in anything lol so at the end after his side quests I have become more sour about him. I've been using one of the "fan art" of Haseo for my wallpaper (026 PKK Haseo for reference). I didn't have a membership for RS for the longest time as a kid as my parents didn't want to pay for it so I just went to the wilderness to steal peoples bones off their bodies once they were coming back from collecting them or while they were collecting them. I really only went so hard on the Trails games cause they are excellent! They have become my favorite JRPG franchise, and story in games in general. The first two also have a female protag which is something I'm not used to seeing in any JRPG and especially not for 2004. I could gush about them for probably several days if given the chance lol. Also one of the games has my favorite instrumental battle theme everrrrr (Sora no Kiseki the 3rd OST - Fighting Right On). However I would probably not recommend the Trails series to most people as it's just SO MUCH lol. The Xenoblade games are definitely good, 3 is one of the best JRPGs ever made while the first too are pretty okay in their own right.

I thought the first 12 episodes of SAO were pretty good- everything past that I felt was...not so good lol. I ended up really disliking that series the more I watched it (sorry if anyone reading this likes it!). I really loved the forums of the game. They really did a great job making it feel real. I loved finding new keywords and getting the occasional screensaver image. For the longest time I kept mine as Pi since she's one of my favorite characters <3 Haha, that's really funny about the PK comparison your friends did! I never did much in RS, but I admit that PVP was my thing in WoW. There was nothing more fun to me than doing battlegrounds and arenas with some good music playing. The fact that you finished all those games in such a short time is really impressive! I think someone recommended me Xenoblade at some point. I still need to check that out.

I thought it was you that had mentioned it but I was not sure. So far I have been loving G.U. Rebirth! I think I'm about half way through that one and am excited to play the rest. I'm still going through your backlog of videos so I didn't even know (I'm actually watching it now in case anything relevant comes up. So far tho I agree with something strongly, I'm also not a huge SAO fan lol). I really love going through the forums in the game tho, there's a lot of surprisingly realistic-ish posts and also a good way to naturally have some of the tutorials. Like someone asking "Where do I get x material" and then someone else posts the keywords so you can also go get those materials. Although I had been streaming the game for some of my friends and was subject to a large amount of roasting with them comparing me to Haseo lol. Also comparing me to PKers since I was one in RS when I was a kid. One of my friends played G.U. as a kid though so they were able to help me out with things. For the JRPG thing, I defiantly will get further than most people in the world at the very least. Last year I went through all 10 of Legend of Heroes: Trails series games which took 3 months (613.4 hours, I have this calculated as it's an absurd amount of time) and then went straight into playing all 3 of the Xenoblade chronicles right after as I was trying to get them all done right as 3 came out. Also to finish off this long ass reply lol, I'm happy to hear that you are at least considering the Eldritch thing. I think it's an interesting idea in general to have things be a threat not only physically but also mentally.

JokermanTalon

You're correct. It's fun indeed, and pretty straight forward for an arcade fighter. You certainly can play as Korone.

I totally get that. Hunting is definitely one of those things I learned as I got older wasn't for me. I'm happy I was able to learn a few things, but I'd prefer to not do it again unless I really needed to. I used to go target shooting a lot and really enjoyed it! I haven't gone in so long though I'm sure I'm a terrible shot now lol.

alichu

Never actually been hunting myself, I just love firearms and it’s fun to shoot at targets. I’d like to try hunting someday just to say I’d done it, but I honestly dunno if I could bring myself to kill an animal that I don’t need to kill. Heck when I was a little kid I felt so bad about putting worms on hooks to go fishing that I almost cried haha

Secular Succotash

Very nice! It sounds like you had a really nice weekend- that's great! :) A few years ago, I worked at a sporting goods store that focused a lot on rifles and such. It was really cool since I use to go hunting with my Dad a lot growing up. I haven't gone in years now, but I have a lot of fond memories for sure.

alichu

I'm not going to lie, your story idea sounded so good for an anime! I can see an army of cute anime girls going around with their little animal ears. It would definitely be one of those series that despite its cutesy style, would have darker undertones here and there haha! Also, your bottle of whiskers comment got me good xD I think I'd like to go a different route than zombies also. I do enjoy zombies, but it would be fun to do something a little different in our post-apocalyptic world. I've been brainstorming some different ideas and you all have definitely given me some good ones to think about too! :)

alichu

It could have been someone else too, but I have a feeling it was likely me to bring up dot hack! I absolutely love that series with a passion :) I did a youtube video a little while back showing my collection. That is super awesome to hear you played it! As for your goal of playing every major JRPG- I believe in you! That is a really cool goal that I can only hope to achieve. It's funny you brought up an Eldritch setting because I was thinking about doing that! I really enjoy Lovecraftian monsters so that would be pretty cool in a post-apocalyptic setting. Thanks for sharing your ideas <3

alichu

Oh, I like that a lot! It seems like a lot of post apocalyptic stories I've read or watched either take place during or right after the event. There's a couple I've seen go further into the future, but they always seem to be more advanced in technology by then. I think it's cool to have a little bit of engineering but relying more on old ways of survival. Totally random, but there's an anime/manga called "Girl's Last Tour" I think you may like based on your comment :)

alichu

Or perhaps I as the partner will die, sparking your revenge as the main character. You now roam through various towns and cities, looking for a way to end this hell, ultimately becoming the hero of a new world- of course making friends along the way! :P

alichu

That show was pretty interesting! I actually think it's kinda cool to prep and stuff. Even if it's not for something like an apocalypse, it's good to have stuff on hand- you never know! I'm really excited to write this one, so I'm curious to see which character type wins the poll :D

alichu

That's the game with the hololive members, right? That game looks fun! :) I haven't looked into it too much yet, but I hope I can play as my favorite doggo girl <3

alichu

Weekend was both relaxing and productive for me. Got some errands done, cooked my meal prep for the week, scheduled an appointment. Tears of the Kingdom released too, I’m having it a ton of fun with it! Also bought a hard case for my rifle too so hopefully I’ll be able to take it to the range next weekend to get the sights zeroed. Looking forward to the winner of the poll!

Secular Succotash

Glad to hear you've had a great weekend. I just gamed as well, in fact I may or may not have caused someone to throw their controller at the screen I was that good. haha I like this roleplay idea. For the setting; I definitely would like to see something different from zombies. Hmm... Ali, d'you remember you wanted to raise an undead neko army and dominate the world? But then someone rose an ookami army to oppose you. War raged. Earth now but a shadow of its former beauty. So now, whatever remains of both factions are scarcely populated and desperate for survival. Despite both being on the brink of extinction; they continue to despise each other. The turning point of this era surfaces when the character meets listener. A neko and an ookami. Normally, such meetings would end with only one walking away alive. However, both very young and sharing the same aspiration of bringing this planet back to life, their animosity subsides - just this one time... [character option: Partners] You want fries with that terrible idea? A nice drink too, perhaps a nice bottle of Whiskers? (neko alternative to Whiskey in this world) Your day was going so well and then this comment happened, haha. Have a nice day/night!

Artilleries

Glad to hear you weekend was chill! I decided to play .hack//G.U. as I remember someone mentioning dot hack on one of these posts. I haven't played any of them so I figured I might as well since I don't have much else to play till Street Fighter 6 and Final Fantasy 16. I also I have goal of playing every major JRPG ever at some point in my life, which is completely incompletable lol, but I still play as many as possible. As for setting ideas, I also played Darkest Dungeon 2 last week so I have Eldritch Horrors on the mind. Probably a lot harder to implement then zombies or something like Fallout lol. I've also seen Vampires used as a replacement for zombies in a few settings. Don't know if any of these ideas help but it's all I've got on the brain for alternatives or even just additions to a more regular setting.

JokermanTalon

I've had this idea for a story set in a post apocalyptic setting where its not during or right after but set like 50 years after everything goes down and now the people that go out and scavenge for stuff never even knew a world before this and the village elders were just children when stuff went down. But the people use a little bit of modern engineering but mostly medieval techniques and gear for survival. Could make a cool roleplay idea.

Sir Skelington

Ok we can be buddy survivors in the apocalypse, HOWEVER, I'm the one that gets to die horribly for plot reasons, got it? My last stand is gonna be so baller people are gonna be talking about it for weeks 😎

Shogun

This roleplay will be a win no matter what wins! I love apocalypse scenarios only because I feel like I could finally put all my prepping and doomsday knowledge into action. Yes, that does mean I was one of those crazy people that watched doomsday preppers. However, I have been prepared for a Hurrican for the last ten years....while living in California.....T_T (god I hated my younger self...)

Phosphophyllite

Sounds like a good weekend for you. My weekend was pretty typical. I did put some time into a fighting fan game called Idol Showdown (free on steam). I also did some introspection on life and work.
