of monstrous and queer creatures 9: the devil

GENERAL

a long time ago, a little after the first word was uttered and ALL began speaking things into existance, there was a light. The light was at the center of the entire creation, and ALL sat on it, speaking of things that will come to be and things that were. Everything emanated from the light and from ALL like the warmth from a roaring fire. Everything was peaceful, with the entire creation listening enraptured to ALL's stories in the soft, warm ,silent dark of the primordial nights. That light is now no more, and no one knows what became of ALL. At the center of creation is now a hole; an inversion of things , towards wich all of creation is being slowly dragged towards. Around this hole, like coagulated blood, matter formed. It surrounded it like an incandescent scab. This enormous ball of matter around the hole is what we now call The World. Nothing of the primordial night remains now, creation has degraded and has grown inbred and purulent . The words of ALL congealed into the fae realms, where , since they were farthest from it, they were allowed to distort themselves and lose their meaning and coherence. And what of the first children of ALL? the luminous ones. The first ones that understood his words like no one else ever did or ever will? They're still on the world. Its inhabitants call them devils.

THE OPPOSITES

devils are ancient creatures that were profundly connected to the creative light at the center of everything and to its master, ALL: at some point something happened that pushed ALL to disappear, die or leave the universe, and as the light turned into a hole they too underwent a metamorphosis, becoming twisted creatures of shadows , that embody the concept of "wrong" , of "error" and of "opposite" .  It is said that when the luminous ones learned ALL was not with them anymore their despair is what caused the light to go inward and turn itself into a hole, and their unending sorrow flipped into mad, cruel delight at what they had done.Where they once sought to spread the words of ALL , they now actively tried to subvert them, turning everything they land their hands upon into the opposite version of itself.

DEMONIC POSSESSION

everything and anything is subject to the devil's corruption. People, animals , objects and even places can be infected by their influence. The process' speed depends on how physically close the victim is to the devil, and how much it desires for its target to be corrupted. There are stories of  a devil sleeping deep underground in what once was an enormous salt lake that over time turned into the biggest, most vivid jungle in the world, the horned forest. Another example is the turning of the baron of Strazda , famous for his compositions and acumen, that was turned into a gibbering fool overnight, when a guest of one of his private concerts turned out to be a devil in disguise. There are many more examples, but the process basically involves the victim becoming the opposite of what they are. or what they most strongly believe they are, if they have the capacity to think: the frail and old becomes strong and powerful, the intelligent becomes dimwitted, the cruel turns kind etc. etc. . The process is painless and several people are very often actually ecstatic and aroused during the transformation : becoming something that you never dreamed of being or even dared to think you could be is a powerful, intoxicating sensation that very few can withstand without a powerful sense of arousal sprouting from deep within them, as their secret desires and most hidden feelings gets blasted towards the surface. The devils of course revel in the joyous carnality that often ensues, maybe because what they originally were would be horrified at this perversion of the words of ALL.

SLEEP

the devils are indeed powerful and terrifying creatures, but one can't help to think why they aren't more present in the world, often residing in its darkest recesses and most inaccessible places. The reason behind that is because devils are often sleeping and in a catatonic state. Even after their inversion  they remember what being a luminous one was, and what being with ALL meant, and as much delight as that sense of loss causes them, there is an essential core within them that still feels a pain so great they can barely stand it.They are also afraid that being conscious and active for too long would cause their power to invert reality to eventually turn inwards , forcing them to return to their luminous form again and allowing them to face the full force of their feelings.   And so they sleep, trying to forget their unending sorrow and awake only when there is something intensely pure and full of meaning to corrupt and flip on its head, often after being called by someone unwise enough to work with these insidious creatures.
