A Sad Day for Uni

Over the past month we had been working on submitting our store page and demo of Uni to be reviewed by Steam.

Going into the process we were aware of Steams regulations against school uniforms in a school setting in an erotic game, but despite this there are plenty of examples on Steam that have bypassed this regulation so we figured we would roll the dice on getting Uni on Steam.

Sadly, our submission was rejected and so Uni will not be coming to Steam.

However, I still wanted to share with you all some previews of what could have been when we were in the process of setting everything up.

Store Page:

The 2050 release date was simply a placeholder.

 Library Page:
There's something reaffirming about seeing a game that you've busted your ass off working on for 7 years having it's own Steam page, and just as dishearting to know that everyone that loves the game almost as much as you do will never see it there.

Still, it wasn't an unexpected outcome, it would have been more shocking had it actually managed to pass review.

There's also the point to bring up that a few people have asked me going into this:
"Why not make a offsite NSFW-patch like some of the other H-games?"

The biggest issue with that is that would also include any writing that is NSFW. (might start to see the issue here) For a visual novel like ours this would effectively make a SFW of Uni a completely broken mess that isn't representative of the experience that Uni brings to the table, and I'd rather not have the game on Steam than let a first time player have the worst possible first time experience playing our game.

Regardless, we have the horizon ahead of us and despite any setbacks or obstacles we're guaranteed to hit we'll finish this game. I promise.

Thank you all for your love and support,
Hizor

Thank you for the words of support.

Anti-School Uniforms policy is clearly just an excuse to censor Japanese-centric and/or Anime-style games since it tends to be a prevalent theme throughout the medium. It's rather discriminatory and frankly, I find said censorship to be disgusting. Regardless, Steam made their bed, so now they get to sleep in it. In other words, it's their loss, pushing away a great game and it's devs over them getting all triggered over certain forms of female clothing. Who needs them? We can get our hands on Uni straight from the developers anyways. As far as I'm concerned, Steam doesn't deserve Uni. In any case, sorry for the rant, and for the fact you were rejected over such ridiculous nonsense. We're still here to support you and your game, regardless of Steam's ridiculous (and discriminatory) decision.

And mad respect for that. Make it the way you want and never compromise it.

Lot of lovers for the bakery content. Wish it didn't take us this long to finally continue it, but at least we are now!

Hizor Games

Btw, love the new bakery content! That's what got me onboard to begin with

RadioActivRabit

Sweet!

RadioActivRabit

Our next stop is GoG then DLSite.

Hizor Games

Sorry to hear that. Have you considered GoG? I've been seeing a lot more NSFW games getting the green light on there lately.

RadioActivRabit

Sorry to hear that! I was super excited at the possibility of achievements but I'm glad it wasn't anything worse like i was worried about when i saw the caption of the post. Glad you're staying true to your image of the game.

Athanasia

I'm gutted that we shan't be seeing this on Steam but the integrity of the game is more important. There's a context point here that, in my view, the 'ban' on school uniforms operated by Steam isn't taking into account. These are, after all, university students who, in the real world, have traditionally given themselves a reputation for being a little ... rampant. No point crying over it though. I love this game and shall continue to follow it.

DigitisEtLingua

That's sad to hear. I would have loved to having your game at Steam. Sorry it didn't pass. F

Frederic Moragrega García

Yep, which is why we figured we'd give it a chance anyway.

Hizor Games

steam has games that violate its rules far more than this eve rwould

Lady Aceina

Thank you. :D

Hizor Games

I'm certainly not dialing anything back that's for sure. Gonna develop the game to my vision. :D

Hizor Games

We are planning on a DLSite release, but we want to make a Japanese translated version first before we do that.

Hizor Games

I can understand the reach and marketing appeal of having the game on Steam, but if I may speak freely. F*ck em. Valve is at the best of times lazy and at the worst of times hypocritical and greedy. Uni would get more attention on Steam, but would likely suffer because of the way you would have to change and dial back most of it. I'm more than happy with the way it is and the way it has grown since I first found it.

Arkest

Too bad, I really prefer pages like Itchio o DLisite, for me two great online stores for buy.

Ariel Herrera M

Aaaw, too bad. But cheer up, we are all here, and we will still support your great game!
