🎀Isaac x MC x Kara fluff🎀

(As I stated on the recent poll's I wanted to go ahead and do some posts for Isaac and Kara. This won't take place of the Nov fluff post that Cam has won. It will be out on the 24th after the devlog.)
---
Isaac takes another swig of his energy drink, his third in two hours. Not his best decision, but it beats being wasted off his ass. His fingers tap along the steering wheel to the beat of the song blaring through the radio, trying to stay awake on the long drive. The caffeine buzz is wearing off, but the tiredness hasn’t quite caught up with him yet.

Just as he feels his mind starts to wander, his phone rings and the sound makes him jump. He quickly adjusts the volume, his tired eyes scanning the road. For a second, he debates letting it go to voicemail—he's been working since five p.m. the day before and could really get some sleep. A few hours curled up next to MC sounds better than anything right now.

But then he sees the name flashing across the screen: Leo. Isaac curses under his breath and picks up the call, bracing himself for whatever favor is coming his way.

“Hey, what’s up?” Isaac answers, voice a little groggy.

The sound of honking cars blares through the phone, followed by Leo yelling. “Listen, shit! God, these people can’t fucking drive! Move!” There’s a loud honk, and Isaac winces, holding the phone away from his ear.

“Leo, dude, you’re killing my ears,” Isaac grumbles.

“Ah, sorry. Anyway, Maria went into labor early, and I’ve got a delivery, but I can’t do it. Dude, I really need you to pick this up for me.”

Isaac sighs, the palm of their hand pressing against the lids of their eyes. He’s heard that line before, more times than he cared to admit. Yet, every time
he does it. Maybe it’s the fact that Leo was one of the few people who knew what Isaac was going through when it came to family.

“You know that I’ve been working all night, right?” How many times had he told Leo that? That it was another long night, another long day. Countless hours wasted away trying to get ahead.

“Yeah, yeah. I know, I know,” Leo says, his voice a little frantic, “Listen, I’ve got no one else man. I want to be there when my girl is born. I don’t want to miss it. You’re the only person I’ve got I.”

Isaac can’t help but smile, Leo had talked his ear off about becoming a dad. And he sounded like one already, even more than his dad. He pauses for a beat, looking at himself in the mirror. The dark circles under his eyes begged him to rest. “Alright, what’s the address?”

“Shit, thanks I. I’ll text you the address.”

“You better get a handle on that swearing before your kid arrives. Hate to find out their first word in the future is a swear.”

“Yeah, yeah.”  Leo hangs up with so little as a goodbye, quickly sending Isaac the address.

He opens the message, his stomach sinking once he finally sees it. MC’s ordered medicine?

His heart skips a beat. He knew MC had been working themselves ragged lately, trying to set everything up for a big meeting with a client. He remembers the way MC had sounded so excited, yet so scared when they’d confided in him a few days ago.

“If they hire me..this could be really great for me, for my business.”

Isaac can still hear that hopeful edge in their voice, the passion behind their words—even though the fear of their failure had been weighing them down. They had noticed that early on, the way MC could sound hopeful yet scared, expecting their plans to fail. He nodded and told them it was going to be great, even as they whispered it into his ear, while Kara slept soundly beside them, exhausted from her own long day.

He never wanted to see MC working themselves to the ground, but they could be so stubborn. Neither Kara nor he could stop them when they set their mind to something. He knew they were pushing themselves hard, stressed about the meeting. It only causes guilt to seep in.

It’s like his body is on autopilot, first to pick up the medicine from Leo, then to MC’s apartment. The weight of his exhaustion sinks deeper into his bones, as he grabs the package and looks it over.

Why didn’t you tell me you were sick? Why keep it from me? From us?

He’s not sure what he expects to see when he opens the door, but MC standing there paler than normal, eyes a little glassy
yeah, he didn’t expect that. Isaac notices something isn’t right as MC stands there like they’re leaning against the doorframe to hold themselves up. His stomach churns instantly with concern.

“Hey, hey. Are you alright?” he asks, walking over to them. They give a small nod, but the way their hand trembles as they reach for the package is hard to miss. Their movements are slow and hesitant.

They smile weakly, allowing Isaac to place an arm around their waist and a hand on their forehead. “I’m fine, just a little tired.”

He doesn’t buy it, not for a second. “You’re burning up.” He says his voice soft with worry. “Come on, let’s sit you down.”

He helps them toward the couch, and MC finally gives in, their shoulders slumping. They try to look anywhere but at Isaac, as they mumble, their voice barely above a whisper. “I didn’t want to bother anyone.”

Isaac opens the package, takes out the medicine, and places it on the coffee table as he brushes their damp hair away from their forehead. “You’re not bothering anyone; you should’ve told me.”

MC lets out a shaky sigh, “I didn’t want to be a burden.”

He wants to reprimand them, to tell them that they should depend on him more. But he can’t, not when they look so weak. Not when the only thing he wants to do is pull them into his arms and nurse them back to health.

“You could never be a burden.” He pulls them softly against his side, grabbing one of the throw blankets to lay it over them as he presses a soft kiss to the top of their head.

Even early on Isaac knew that they couldn’t be a burden when they were peeling away the layers, the ones he thought he created to keep himself safe. Only to learn they were keeping him stagnant and alone.

MC opens their mouth to protest, but the words die on their lips as they close their eyes, too tired to argue. That’s a first. That alone was worrying enough.

He pulls out his phone, quickly dialing Kara. “Kiks, you need to get over here. MC’s sick.” He whispers as she picks up, tightening his arms around MC as they rest against him.

“What the hell do you mean, they’re sick? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I didn’t know, I found out – listen it doesn’t matter. They’re burning up. Just get here, now.”

It doesn’t take her long to arrive, her heels alerting them to her arrival before she even comes through the door. Isaac wipes their hand against MC’s forehead, trying to swipe away the beads of sweat. If someone had told him over a year ago, that he would be spending his time pacing around an apartment worried about someone because of some fever
he’d laugh. Because he couldn’t see himself falling, not again. Yet here he is.

He bends down, reaching out to adjust the blanket over MC, but his hand lingers there, hesitating.

“Isaac, I’m fine. Just
tired.” They mutter, their eyes barely open.

Before they can respond, the door slams open, and Kara steps in. One glance at MC, and her gaze sharpens.

“What the hell?” She asks, her voice isn’t angry, but it’s firm - authoritative. She wastes no time.

Isaac’s lips parted in frustration, “Can you slam the door a little quieter next time?”

Kara moves swiftly across the room, kneeling down beside MC without a second thought. “Sweetheart,” she says, her voice softer now as she shoots Isaac an apologetic look. “You’re burning up.” Her fingers press gently to MC’s forehead, eyes narrowing. “What the hell were you thinking not telling us?”

MC chuckles weakly, trying to play it off, but the effort is clearly draining them. “Kara, you two are just as busy, I didn’t want to bother you...”

Kara shoots Isaac a glance, a mix of frustration and concern. Isaac just shrugs, raking a hand through his curls. She takes MC’s chin in her hands, lifting their head gently.

“You’re not bothering us. But I’m done letting you push yourself like this. I’m sure Isaac is too.”

Isaac hums in approval, opening a medicine packet and holding it out for MC along with a glass of cool water.

“You’ve been working yourself into the ground, haven’t you?’

If MC had the energy to avert their gaze, they would. Isaac knows there’s no point in getting in the way. Kara doesn’t ask permission, she just does. MC nods weakly and Kara sighs as she moves to help them sit up and take the medicine. Wiping away a droplet of water from their chin.

“I,” Kara says without looking up, her melodic voice carrying that no-nonsense edge. “Grab the thermometer from the medicine cabinet. Let’s see how bad this fever is.”

He nods, moving toward the bathroom as his mind continues to race. When he returns, Kara’s already helping MC lie back down, allowing MC to rest their head in her lap as she pulls the blanket up snugly around MC’s shoulders. Her hand continues to rest on MC’s forehead, as though she’s willing the fever to break with just a touch.

“You’re staying here until you’re better,” Kara states, her voice leaving no room for argument. “I’ll handle the meeting. Stop pretending like you’re fine and let us take care of you. Got it?”

A faint, defeated smile graces MC’s face. “Yes ma’am.”

Isaac sits on the other side, raising MC’s legs to rest in his lap as he rubs his tired eyes. He was always impressed with how Kara could take control of a situation. She was more logical in times of distress, while Isaac was more emotional. His thoughts could easily begin to run away with him, causing him to stress the small things. While Kara could see the bigger picture and think out a solution before he’s even fully grasped the problem. They balanced one another, which is probably why being in a relationship together with MC just
works

The apartment is quiet, as they wait for the thermometer to alert them that it’s done taking MC’s temperature. It beeps twice, and Isaac glances at it. “101.3,” he mutters, that familiar feeling of unease in the pit of his stomach.

“We’ll get it down,” Kara says quickly, leaning over to pat Isaac on the arm.

Isaac’s voice is quieter when he speaks, his blue eyes searching MC’s face. “We’re here for you. Both of us, the sooner you realize that the better.”

They take turns preparing food, checking temperatures, and offering comfort. Kara with her steady touch and Isaac with his softer, more tender approach. They eventually drift off to sleep as Isaac brushes their hair back as they rest in Kara’s lap. It’s not long until Isaac himself begins to drift off, Kara giving him a knowing smile as she tosses him a pillow.

MC wakes up many hours later, their body snuggled in between the two of them. Isaac’s head rests against their shoulder, his arm draped around their waist, while Kara’s cheek rests softly against the top of MC’s head, and her hand rests over Isaac’s. Their gentle breathing was enough to put MC at ease, bringing them a calmness they hadn’t felt in days, as they placed a soft kiss on each of their cheeks.

It wasn’t the first night they spent huddled together on the couch, limbs entangled under a shared blanket, and it wouldn’t be the last.
