398 Heart of the Forest

An elf community and the wildlife in an ancient forest are going through a rough patch now that a mysterious fey entity has infected and tainted the heart of the forest. The heart of the forest is a strange form of life that resides under an underground elven complex from ages past. The local wood elves ignore the true origin or significance of the ruins but they seldom visit the place to peruse a planar observatory that remains functional.
The taint in the heart of the forest causes a damaging effect on the wildlife and other fey creatures, like elves. They cannot descend to the depths to help the heart get rid of its illness. Only a group of outsiders can hope to reach the bottom of the underground complex and apply a cleansing scroll to the heart. Assuming it works, it may be the only way to return the forest to its former verdant self.
