323 Svlinten City, the Glowing Wonder

Denizens of the Tower,

Svlinten is an underground gnomish settlement in the higher regions of the Underdark. A group of gnome prospectors stumbled upon the place and were enraptured by the strange magic-infused glowing crystals in the cave. The crystals shine as bright as a full moon. The gnomes saw that ordinary mushrooms and other underground vegetation grew to unthinkable sizes thanks to the light and the overall magic in the area and decided to stay. Hundreds of years later, Svlinten City is a large settlement that makes use of the area for farms and mining.

A recent problem looms over the city. An obscure species of underground crab-like abomination with adamantine pincers starter to attack the city from the eastern tunnel. The creatures break the glowing crystals to pieces and eat them. The city guard did their best to contain the monsters but ultimately failed. After months of work and many dead gnomes, the gnomes managed to build a tall wall to keep the crabs at bay. They had to abandon a third of the city. Despite the success of the wall, the crystal-eating monsters grow in numbers by the day and it is only a matter of time until they breach the wall. A local scientist things he can do something to either replace the crystals from the crabs' diet, or lure them out somehow to the east.
