More PlayStation Live-Service Problems + The Blood of Dawnwalker's Ambitious Plans | Unpacked

This week on Unpacked we're looking more cancelled games from PlayStation, a new game called The Blood of Dawnwaker that has some unique features in-store, and a quick look at Assassin's Creed Shadows after spending four hours with it this week!

Hope you enjoy the new format and a new episode will now be available every Friday at 10 AM CT going forward.

I enjoyed this, having entirely checked out of game news for the most part I like hearing about the new developments to decide if I want to look into it deeper myself. I do think the odd longer essay would be nice if the topic calls for it though.

When’s AiN S4?

I like doing them too! Just with all my other responsibilities it's hard to come up with a topic that's interesting enough on its own each week without repeating myself too often. Only so much "corporate this, corporate that" analysis you can do before it becomes boring to even write about, even if the views are better. At least with this format I can be consistent, and cover a wider variety of topics without forcing myself to stretch them to 8 minutes or so. Thanks for the feedback though! - Nick

The news does give Nick an opportunity to update deep dives as context changes. Allowing the format to evolve is good, as long as you preserve the show's purpose.

Agreed

For news segments, have a clear indicator at thumbnail is it news or essay, and if news, have split off between sections a bit more. Otherwise good stuff, I like to hear your thoughts even when I disagree

GTAV was successful despite being quite trash because people love shooting police in coop. They took two years where it was actually good for casual play. After that though they just printed money. So it was all really franchise incredible power. Also lets not forget that Rockstar banned all mods including multiplayer ones.

Hopefully this will be last of people chasing Fortnite money. Live service is possible, but reality is market is only for few specialised games, time is limited, people enjoy specific things.

Agreed!

Nick Calandra

I did! That helps, though I think clearer transitions would too.

Tristan

Did you skip the intro by chance? I outline the topics of the video right away at the beginning.

Nick Calandra

Same here😄💖

I'm torn... I too enjoy Nick's keen industry deep dives, but I also like that the new format means I'm more likely to hear a topic that really grabs me.

I don't have an issue with the format, but I think the presentation is a bit confusing. The title presents a single thesis, but that's only the first story. When you get to the second story, there just seems to be a pause, and then you seemingly wander off-topic. It might help to have a bit more framing, or transition between stories. Checkpoint is a really good example of this!

`was minecraft single player Yes, Minecraft was initially designed as a single-player game.` said AI , while I was thinking about the RPG community . New format and timing is nice, calm news is maybe picking up online.

I've been waiting for something like this from you Nick, weekly short form news updates, idk if 10 minutes videos count as short form, but for the amount that you crammed in it I would call it that Looking forward to more from the only EIC worth listening to

Doesn't the giant pile of cash mean Rockstar successfully transitioned to live? Think i agree with Marty. Dawnwalker looks interesting tho

I liked the longer form version but if you're enjoying this more, then I'm still here for it
