oh man, this makes me want to see a throwback review of Star Control 2

It's almost as if Jedi should have just been using guns all along.

The irony is, you can just straight ignore lightsabers, continue speccing blasters, and for Scoundrels your sneak attack damage becomes monstrous. Many of the force powers stun enemies or make them unable to react, and the extra damage applies to every single hit in a round. You chew through enemies on the hardest difficulty, it's really funny.

Also, we have to take in account that some people only played the xbox versions which had a pretty different UI setup. Which, not only the xbox version of the game worked surprisingly well with a controller, some people like myself have the hot take that it was better UI than the pc version.

KOTOR II is superior, rushed story aside. Playing a dual-wielding blaster jedi and the build actually being viable is so much fun, and I appreciate they placed a greater emphasis on moral ambiguity.

I do think that part of the disconnect with this game is that, unlike most modern 1st/3rd person rpgs, this had the old school crpg style of trying to be a tabletop game (that so happened to be 3rd person) Hell, if you look closely at the games systems they’re just modified D&D rules.

In 2003, this really was the greatest western RPG ever made. Sorry Morrowind, Fallout, etc. Hearing that someone played it with the ending already spoiled makes me sad, in the same way that I would feel if I heard someone played Spec Ops: The Line already knowing the whole story.

Logically I know Yahtzee is right and it doesn't hold up but the nostalgia is strong with this one

I never quite understood why you could choose a ranged build when you were definitely always going to be a Jedi or Sith and armed appropriately. Felt like one of the many 'illusions of choice' that were the hallmark of games back when.

Dr. Judge, Private Eye

This game is really tough to go back to, but it certainly captures the Star Wars fantasy about as well as anything could back then.

Jeff Gibson

As a weeb, I'll repeat what he said last year. "Maybe enough old people will have died next year. "

This game was one of my formative CRPG experiences. Overly combat-heavy back-segment aside, it just *wowed* me, in spite of the jank, that even at the time was evident. A hard game to go back to, but one I'll always have a soft-spot for.

Mike Lee

Joke at the end was legit funny. I played this game as a kid and never noticed how dumb it is that they basically push Darth Revan back into a position where they could be powerful and possibly evil AGAIN. Great writing lmao

The steam version is broken garbage, unfortunately. Zero efforts made to make it compatible or functional on modern windows machines. The gog.com version works out of the box because the gog gremlins actually cared. Also switch, ps4, or xbox backward compatible layer. It's a shame yahtzee experienced it through Steam, he surely had a harder time than he needed to.

The little FR logo with Yahtzee’s lightsaber and Doggy Darth Vader is just perfect. Never stop, you beautiful British bastard.
