The Acolyte Turns Star Wars' Nostalgic Gaze Towards the Prequels | The Backdrop

I can't help but think of Baz Luhrmann when Nostalgia gets mentioned. As for the Acolyte, I just couldn't get into it the same with Obi-wan, the script is terrible. "Advice is a form of nostalgia. Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth" If anyone knows the name of the music track that starts at 2:19 and ends around the 4:25 mark, please let me know.

That actually does sound like a compelling story. Thanks for sharing!

Nah, just the way my folks raised me. That said, I was the only white kid in my school in Ghana and I was elected as prefect for my final two years, because I was apparently very good at solving disputes in ways that both parties tended to accept. (It probably helped that I was paired with another kid that nobody wanted to mess with.)

Personally I wouldn´t call The Acolyte fine. The Acting is good, the sets are nice, the costumes are (mostly) great. I certainly agree on that. But the script is just so awful. It comes across as really amateurish. Drags down all the other aspects. I do appreciate that the prequel era gets more of a focus. But i would like something more competent and bit more substance. Won´t be holding my breath for it though.

Aah, nostalgia; Jack pre razor, and anticipating the Mr.Plinkett takes on films more than the movies themselves.

Fun, insightful video essay. Though if we're focusing on prequels I'd enjoy an entry focusing on Darren's traumatic childhood in which he was regularly treated unfairly, leading him to make sure to assure everyone that he's being fair in each of his future essays.

The prequels naturally lend themselves to being revisited because they're so full of ideas and attempts to capture an interesting tone and some Cool Stuff, and are generally grander in scope than the original trilogy, but all of this is only executed well in random snatches distributed unevenly through two very bad films and one slightly better film. There's a lot of dogs which haven't truly had their day there, much moreso than the original trilogy which is both much better and much leaner. The jury is still out on exactly how the sequels fit into the collective cultural memory, but I personally struggle to find much to be interested in or care about in any of them.
