The Future of Gaming According to PlayStation | Cold Take

One of your better ones, Frost. I really enjoyed it.

Jeroen Delcour

Honestly I thought the “console wars” ended a while ago, with there being a general truce between the 3 camps. Xbox was for people who liked PC gaming but for whatever reason didn’t have a PC, Nintendo was for people who liked weird and cozy stuff and didn’t really care about the higher performance for shared games, or really liked Nintendo’s 1st party output and Playstation was for the majority “next gen” stuff, for the every man and for people that also wanted the exclusives. Comparing the 3 at this point seems like apples, oranges and bananas

I'll give them this: Best usability hands down.

I really meant to say #1 smartphone (in the US, at least), versus the subjective "best", but I waffled back and forth, since sometimes iPhone isn't #1, and I don't think the iPad is #1 but is typically considered the "best" despite the software drawbacks. In general, I would personally put Apple products as "best quality, despite some software-related drawbacks" which I think is pretty objective. I think Sony/Playstation is probably in the same boat.

Brad Root

Looking forward to them. Particularly after Xbox's... actions.

Disagree with "Apple has the best Smartphone/Tablet" statement. They have the best ecology, being able to easily pass data from your Mac to your phone and vice-versa. But their performance, specially for the price, leaves things to be desired. There are pros and cons with all smartphones, and walling off their apps to just their ecosystem is one of the cons. Imagine Airdropping things to your windows PC, or downloading any app to your Iphone.

People might not like it but walled gardens result in better products. That's why Apple has the best smartphone and tablet, and why Sony sells the #1 console. Owning all 3 current gen consoles, it's clear Sony's is the high quality all-around even without the great exclusives. People might not agree with the way the companies operate philosophically, but you can't argue with the results. As a result, I think this video is pretty off-base and would be very surprised to see Sony ever truly falter in the "console wars". Xbox has had an awful lot of time to turn itself into a premium experience but that does not run in Microsoft's DNA, it never has, they've never manage to ship a truly premium feeling product across any product category, though those new Surface laptops look nice, but they're still full of fans.

Brad Root

I really wish Sony’s plan included Bloodborne on PC

Karew

He'll be looking at all three of the big three, so it's not just a focus.

Sony sounds like a little Napoleon that desperately wants to be the Apple of gaming with all that entails. From the suffocating walled garden ecosystem, to the absurdly cultish fanbase; hell, even to the client-side scanning of users approach to enforce """""proper behavior""""", it's 100% Apple and that's not a good thing in my book.

After the night I had, hearing Frost laugh at something as silly as "Sony Pony" brightened my day😄💖

Criticizing sonys plan when it is working, and has been working, and going well the people who dominated the past 2 console generations strategy seems to be just rolling dice at a casino. Idk man.
