An interesting part of the movie that most people miss is when Mel Gibson runs his flashlight across the crop circle at night, if you look closely, you can see the light disappear (as if it were being blocked by something) as he points the light towards the middle, then reappear as it clears the middle on the other side. This was done to imply that there's an invisible alien ship there. Pretty daunting..
