Vector - Ch. 1

1.

Justin sighed, roughly running his hand through his hair in aggravation.  He stared up at the ceiling of the car, before looking back down to stare lazily at the gridlocked traffic in front of him, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel.

Driving to the airport, right at 5 PM on a Friday.  There was no worse time of day to make this drive, and no time he’d like less to do it.

It didn’t help at all that he was doing it to pick up Jane.  Jane, his wife Claire’s aggravating younger sister, flying in to stay with them for who even knew how long…

The last year as a whole had been nothing but unexpected annoyance.  Claire’s family had always had some weird hang up about confrontation, totally opposite from the way Justin had been raised.  When someone in his family didn’t like something, boy, you heard about it right away.  Not Claire’s family, though.  Silent disapproval, silent resentment, some side discussion, never involving the person being discussed, and no resolution.

A family like that was perfect for someone like Jane.  Rebellious, self-centered, defiant and yet somehow hyper-sensitive and self-righteous about being judged.  She did stupid shit all the time, but heaven forbid anyone even hint as much.  Justin would’ve had a stomach full of more ulcers than Swiss cheese had holes if he hadn’t learned to just keep his mouth shut, stay out of it and let it go.  Jane might be his sister-in-law, but Claire was her sister.  Those were two very different things.

But if anyone in her family had listened to him for a minute, his wife, his in-laws, Jane herself, she’d never have gotten married in the first place to the alcoholic commitment-phobe she’d inexplicably decided to get hitched to.  True, the guy was an improvement compared to anyone who had come before him, the string of bartenders and club promoters and generally anyone related to the service industry that she was so enamored of… but marriage material?  No way.

Justin had seen it coming miles away, but now here they were, four years later, Jane having been divorced now for nearly twelve months.  It may as well have been Jane getting sentenced to die by electric chair, the way that her family took the news.  ‘I thought I was done,’ Justin’s mother-in-law would bemoan at family dinners.  ‘She’s 35 years old and still I have to worry…’

Claire’s mother wasn’t wrong, really.  Jane had immediately jumped into one rebound relationship after another, her identity annoyingly morphing along with whatever guy she was seeing.  First, it was the ultra-politically partisan, religious zealot.  Justin had counted the days over the holidays, waiting for Jane to just leave and go home, so he didn’t have to hear her spewing all of the parroted rhetoric that she had never previously believed or even been interested in before.  After that had come the musician, and Jane’s sudden rekindled interest in playing the keyboard.  ‘When she was in fourth grade, she wouldn’t even bring her music sheets with her to piano practice,’ Claire’s mother had griped.  ‘How can you practice without any music..?!  But she’s so interested now…’

It’d been a whole year of this. Listening to Claire and his in-laws complain, worrying that Jane would lose the decent office job she’d finally landed when she’d been married and settled down, as she hopped from guy to guy, taking vacation time excessively as she recklessly frittered away her money on weeks’ long trips.

Whenever Jane would visit and his wife’s family was all together Justin would have to leave the room as Jane would egocentrically talk only about herself, brashly filling in her parents and sister on her latest trip with her latest boyfriend, conversely daring them to show any sign of disapproval.  He really just couldn’t stand it.

There was just one plus to Jane being around, and most of the time he felt that it wasn’t worth it, but Jane’s only redeeming quality so far as Justin was concerned was that at least she was pretty damn hot.

Claire had always been the prettier sister; while they were both auburn-haired and blue eyed, Claire had always had more beautiful features and was thinner too, but she was one of those women who dressed for other women.  Justin was always proud of how both men and women both checked his wife out.  But Jane…  Jane was different. Men checked her out, but women threw her dirty looks.  Even with a few extra pounds, Jane was sexy.  She dressed in tight clothes.  She always kept her hair longer with highlights, and teased with more volume in a somewhat trashy way.  She wore too-high spiked heels to make herself look taller and slimmer than she really was.

And while she’d always been taller than Claire and proactively dressed, it was only now, for the first time ever, that she had a legitimate edge on her sister. Stereotypically, when Jane got divorced she’d started working out and hitting the gym.  And she didn’t just lose a few pounds of married-life weight, either.  Now, she was fit=, fitter than she ever had been, with a flat, taut stomach, sleek toned arms and legs and shoulders.  Even Claire had to admit her sister looked good.

Justin enjoyed his sister-in-law’s improved physique, but also resented it, knowing how much it fed into Jane’s self-centered conceit, which had already been plenty bad enough, annoyed by her constant obsession with working out even when visiting, her militant dietary restrictions, even though she was willing to forgo them when out on yet another one of her dates.

A little eye-candy was just not worth all of the upcoming aggravation.  Why couldn’t she have just taken a cab anyway? he wondered as the car crawled along through the traffic at a snail’s pace.

It was nearly an hour before he got to the airport terminal off-ramp.  He was already over twenty minutes late and there was no doubt that Jane would be irritated.  Justin was pretty damn irritated by this point as well, though he wouldn’t show it.  Despite all of his internal thoughts, he and Jane actually got along pretty well.  Maybe he was more like his wife’s family than he thought…

As he inched along nearer to the junction where the traffic lanes split off between departures and arrivals, Justin saw that the traffic for departures was actually quite light and it was the arrivals that was backing everything up.  Apparently there were a lot of inbound flights, but then of course it was, it was Friday evening, when everyone flies in.

To make matters worse however, a series of piercing sirens rang out.  Justin saw more than a few police cars driving up the shoulder, passing perilously close to his vehicle as they rushed by, also going to the arrivals section of the airport, their car horns blaring, urging motorists to make way for them.

“Oh, what the fuck,” Justin groaned.  Just then, several fire engines also went roaring past.  Up ahead was a sea of red and blue flashing lights.

“Screw this,” Justin muttered, pulling out his phone, dialing Jane.

“Hey,” he said when she picked up.  “Can you go upstairs to Departures?  I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s a real mess trying to get down to Arrivals.

“Are you serious?” Jane asked, her voice a mixture of annoyance and whining.  “I have my suitcase with me…”

Never can just say yes…  Justin thought, rolling his eyes.  “I mean, I can meet you down there, but it’s going to take like another hour by the look of things.”

“Alright, I’ll see you up there,” Jane reluctantly relented before hanging up.

It was still another fifteen minutes before Justin was able to find enough gaps in the standstill traffic to get over the two lanes into the other lanes that led to Departures.  By the time he got there, he saw there were several police cars up there as well.  They were parked all along the curbside and the officers were out of their cars waving people away.

“Airport’s closed!  No departures!  Airport’s closed!  No departures!”

Justin could hear them repeatedly announcing, waving away anyone who tried to drop off passengers.  Up ahead he could Jane all the way at the end of the terminal, talking animatedly to a police officer just outside one of the automatic glass doors.  He drove over to the end, slowing as he pulled up near a free spot alongside the curb.

“Hey buddy!”  A police officer thumped on his window, making a jerking motion with his thumb.  “All flights canceled!  Move along!”

Justin rolled down his window, frowning.  “I’m actually just picking someone up,” he responded.

“No, you’re not,” the officer retorted.  “Airport’s on lockdown.  No one’s going in, no one’s going out.”

“She’s right there.”  Justin pointed out Jane, standing over by the door, in a pair of tight, high-waisted jeans and a black halter top, still talking to the other policeman.

The officer glanced over appreciatively for a moment before turning back and giving a dismissive wave.  “All right, go ahead then.”

Justin coasted over the additional distance, pulling up next to Jane and the officer.

“Doesn’t matter, ma’am, no one’s getting in or out,” the officer was repeating blandly, his eyes nonetheless traveling up and down the length of her body.

“I was just in there, I just want to get a bottle of water, it’s going to take like two seconds–”

“No one’s allowed inside, ma’am.”

Justin hopped out of the car, picking up Jane’s suitcase. “C’mon, we’ll stop off somewhere and get you a bottle on the way,” he interjected.  Jane gave the policeman a dirty look as she got into the passenger side, then, sitting there, immediately turned to her phone before Justin even had her suitcase loaded in.  Giving another deep sigh, he slammed the trunk closed and got in.

But even as he pulled away from the curb, he saw more officers up ahead, starting to put out traffic barricades, barring the way.  “Oh, fuck no,” Justin swore under his breath.  He pressed the accelerator, squeezing through a gap just before one of the barriers was pushed fully across the road.  He wasn’t getting stuck here for who knew how long on top of everything else.  Traffic getting back to the house was going to be another hour by itself at least.

“Hey, hey, hey!” one of the officers shouted as the car blew past.  Justin saw him reaching for his radio, but then he saw another of them give a resigned wave and just barely heard the cop’s voice, fading with the distance, “Let ‘im go, no cars after that one...”

“Jeez,” Justin exclaimed as they drove down the uncharacteristically vacant exit ramp.  “What the hell happened?  Was there a shooting at the airport or something?”

“I didn’t see or hear anything,” Jane answered, shrugging and not looking up from her phone.

“Maybe it was a bomb threat or something,” Justin speculated.

She didn’t even bother to reply, thumbs busy, absorbed in texting someone as Justin began to merge back onto the main highway, which was, as expected, totally packed.  He leaned back, sighing yet again with his eyes closed as traffic ground down to a halt.

“Hey, you want to hear something weird, though?”

He opened his eyes to see Jane’s head up now, turned toward him, something of an unidentifiable gleam in her eyes.

“What?”

“My flight was just…  totally bizarre.”   Jane was wearing an expression of half amusement and half contemplation, a small crooked smile as she stared out the front windshield, not really looking at what was in front of her.  “It was like… a  whole group of honeymooners on the flight or something.”

“Huh?  What do you mean?”  Justin wasn’t particularly interested.  All he wanted was to get out of this goddamn traffic, have some dinner with a good drink and start the weekend.

“Well, at first it was just a normal flight.  Or maybe, I just didn’t notice,” Jane amended.

That wouldn’t be unlikely, Justin thought to himself.  The way she was perpetually fixated on her phone, a bomb could go off next to her and she wouldn’t notice.  “So…  what was it then?”

“Well, like, halfway through the flight, I noticed a lot of people were, like… I dunno.  Acting weird.  They were, like, holding hands, and leaned in close to each other, staring into each other’s eyes, whispering things.

“And it was like a lot of people, not just a couple here or there.  It was like practically the whole damn plane.”

“Huh.”  It did sound kinda weird to Justin.

“Anyway, I dozed off for a bit, but when I woke up near the end of the flight, I saw that people were just making out!

“Like so many people, all around me!  Everyone making out with each other!”

“Hah!”  Justin laughed wonderingly, envisioning the sight of it.  “That is fucking weird..!”

“And then you know what’s the weirdest part?”  Jane continued.  “I don’t think most of these people knew each other..!

“Or even crazier, like… people came together but then were making out with other people!”

“Wow, that’s nuts,” Justin agreed.  He thought about it a little.  “Maybe there’s like a swingers’ convention in town or something and a bunch of them booked your flight.”

“Maybe… it was totally weird…”  Jane looked off into a space for a moment again before turning back to her phone, their perfunctory banter trailing off.  Justin switched lanes to one that looked to be going incrementally faster, but naturally it came to a full stop as soon as he switched into it.  He rubbed his temples.

“Are you guys into that kind of thing?”  Jane had abruptly glanced up as if the question had just popped into her head, now staring at him.

“Who?  What kind of thing?” he asked, glancing over before returning his attention to the road.

“Swinging.  You and Claire.  Are you guys into it?”

“No,” Justin scoffed immediately.  What a peculiar thing to ask.

“I’ve done it before…”

Annnnnd… that’s why you’re divorced, Justin retorted in his head.  Along with a thousand other reasons.

“Uh, why are we talking about this?”

He wasn’t sure if she was just trying to be her usual provocative self or what, but she usually saved that kind of stuff for her family and not so much with him.

“Sorry,” Jane replied after a moment.  She was frowning slightly.  “I dunno.  I guess I was just curious…”

“Well, you know your sister…”  Justin instantly regretted the remark, but really it wasn’t much of a slip.  Claire was classy and proper, perhaps even bordering on vanilla, but which she was unapologetic for.  It wasn’t exactly a secret.

“Does that mean if she were up for it, you’d be too?”

“What the hell, Jane!”  Justin laughed, incredulous and self-conscious.  “We’re still talking about this..?!”

“Ok, ok, just asking!  Don’t be so uptight, dude…”  She turned back to her phone, wearing a smirk.

What is this?  Sometimes, maybe more than he would admit, Justin wondered if Jane had a thing for him.  He wasn’t a bad looking guy and had never had a problem landing a girlfriend back in the day, but he was nowhere near her type, certainly not the 6’ 2”, muscle bound guys she was going for lately.  Then again, he was aware that she’d played the homewrecker role in a few relationships before she’d be married – and had again since, for all he knew.

And then there had been that time long ago, back when he and Claire were only friends in graduate school, dating other people…

Justin had had a get-together for his then-girlfriend’s birthday, and Claire had come over with her then-boyfriend, bringing along Jane, who was still finishing up college.  Justin had been something of a partier then, and so had his girlfriend.  While Claire hadn’t been much of a drinker even then, Jane was doing her level best to keep up with him and his friends.  By the time they left the apartment, heading out to a nightclub, Jane had been thoroughly trashed.

Justin had his hands full that evening; the venue was packed, and he was continuously going back and forth getting his girlfriend’s friends past the doorman, making sure everyone was having a good time, checking in on Claire and her boyfriend and Jane, who hardly knew anyone (though plenty of Justin’s friends were hitting on Jane).  For all of his efforts, his own drunken, unappreciative girlfriend had gone off on him for not paying any attention to her.

But finally, the night had come together, and he’d had the time to settle down and enjoy himself, having some drinks and dancing.  It was around then that he found Jane standing next to him; she had leaned over, intoxicated and swaying, and spoken in Justin’s ear over the thumping of the loud club music:

“Sometimes you’re just in the mood to fuck...”

At the time Justin had been more amused than anything, at Claire’s tag-along kid sister unable to hold her liquor.  And indeed it wasn’t much later that she was leaning outside of the fire exit doorway, puking in the alley.  Justin had his hands full with his own rowdy girlfriend, and… if he had an eye for anyone other than his current girlfriend, it was Claire.

But that moment had always stayed in the back of Justin’s mind and he’d think of it from time to time and wonder about it.  Perhaps Jane had just been playing her usual provocative self.  He thought maybe it was just the liquor talking, and in all likelihood, she didn’t even remember saying it.  But then again, maybe not…

It wasn’t as if he wished he’d acted on that moment in any way.  If anything, he sometimes wondered if he’d be with Claire today at all if he’d ever hooked up with her sister.  Knowing Claire, that seemed unlikely.  And so Justin had no regrets over it.  Jane was hook-up material, Claire was wife material, and he knew a good thing when saw it.

No regrets.  But maybe just the tiniest bit of… curiosity..?  Heightened by Jane’s new tight, fit body…

Justin realized he’d been lost in his thoughts for quite awhile, and they’d made it a good distance, the traffic gradually improving.  Jane hadn’t said anything either, and he glanced over.  She wasn’t looking at her phone anymore, but staring out of the windshield again, in that dreamy, unseeing way.

“You all good over there?” Justin asked after a few moments of watching her in the trance-like state.

Jane blinked at his voice, unperturbed, her eyes slowly closing and then opening again.

“Yea…  “It’s only…” She trailed off.

Justin waited, and was just on the verge of asking her what, when she finally resumed her unfinished thought..

“I was just thinking about the swinging…”

Justin gave a snort of exasperation.  “Again with the swinging..?!”

“Yes,” Jane answered simply.  “It was really hot…”

She shifted slightly in her seat, and Justin saw that she was rubbing her thighs together slightly.

“Ummm, ok…”  He didn’t know what else to say.

“It really wasn’t the swapping partners, even though that was fun…”  Jane's face still had that peculiar, far-off look.  She wasn’t speaking in her usual, provocative and daring yet challenging manner.  More almost like she was reflecting, but then at that same time…  like she was reliving those memories.

“The best was when we would get together with another couple.  The four of us, in bed together…”

Now Jane’s eyes slipped closed, her head tilted back slightly, exposing her delicate throat.

“First I’d make out with the other girl, while the men watched.  They always liked that.  Knowing how turned on they would get seeing us making out would get me so excited…

“And I would get so aroused that I would want to go down on the girl, but I’d also want her to go down on me…  We’d feel each other, feel each other's wetness, waiting, trying to wait for the other to get down on her knees first…”

Justin was agog.  What the hell was going on here?  Jane was accustomed to flirting with the line, but this was way, way over.

“Are you ok?” he asked again.

She ignored him completely.

“And then…  I don’t know which felt better..!  When I just got so horny I couldn’t take it anymore and I would feel something in my mind snap, and I’d get down on the floor between her legs, my tongue licking, lapping, tasting…”

Jane’s face was growing flushed and she was starting to breathe a little faster, still rubbing her slim thighs together.

“Or else, she would lose control first, and then I’d feel her mouth on me, licking me, entering me with her tongue, and I’d grab her by the hair, grinding up against her face…”

Justin nearly drove into the car in front of him before jamming on the brakes, and though both of them rocked forward with the jerking halt, Jane didn’t appear to notice that either.  She had her arms crossed, and she was running her hands up and down her toned upper arms, caressing herself.

“And then it was so exciting, getting entered from behind, not knowing whether it was boyfriend or some stranger’s cock inside of me, wondering which of them was too horny to wait a second more to fuck me…  not knowing whether my boyfriend and I were fucking in front of a stranger, or it was my boyfriend was watching me fuck someone else…”

“Jane…”  Justin tried to reach her again.  This was completely insane.  This wasn’t some game she was playing…  Something was clearly wrong.  He was completely unnerved, but he also had a massive erection tenting his pants.  He knew Jane was sexually adventurous, but he had no idea she was such an all out total slut...

“And then the best, the absolute best…  is when both men would enter me, to be smashed up between two, hot sweating bodies, two cocks pumping in and out of my holes, while making out with some other hot skank, or having her suck on my titties…  It feels like being the center of the universe, everyone focused on my pleasure, wanting to make me cum...

Jane groaned, eyes still closed, lips parted, starting to feel herself up, groping her tits through her clothes, twisting the flimsy fabric of her halter top, the other hand between her legs, rubbing furiously against the denim.

This is beyond fucked up, Justin thought.  Was she having some kind of a mental breakdown here?  Maybe this past year had been harder on her than he thought.  At the same time, this was incredible, like something out of a fantastical porno movie.  Justin was trying to keep his eyes on the road, but couldn’t help but be compelled to sneak side-long glances at his sister-in-law.  They were moving along at a pretty good pace now and it wasn’t nearly as easy or safe to look away now.

He decided something had to be done and reached over, giving Jane’s shoulder a rough shake.

“Hey..! Jane!”

Jane’s eyes snapped open, looking startled for a moment, but then just as quickly, they half-closed again.  Still, she at least seemed to have snapped out of whatever state she was in, turning to acknowledge Justin.

“Sorry,” she said lightly, not sounding flippant but also not particularly apologetic.  She also didn’t stop touching herself.  “Guess I got a little carried away…”

Not looking any less carried away at the moment..! Justin thought, but the actual words escaped him.  He could feel her eyes on him, as she gazed at him.  Out of the corner of his eyes, he could see that her face still held that dazed expression, though her brow was furrowed now, as though trying to figure out what was happening herself.

“I’m sorry,” she repeated numbly.  “It’s just something’s wrong…”

Yea, no shit, Justin thought.  ‘Wrong’ didn’t begin to describe it.

“It’s just…  I need…”  Her voice was quivering slightly, her hand still busy between her legs.  “I’m not sure…”

Justin wasn’t sure himself.  He wasn’t sure what the hell was happening, or what he should do.  He wasn’t completely sure he was even awake.  This was too insane to be real life…

But Jane seemingly figured it out just a moment later.  She seemingly snapped out of her trance, a fierce manic energy entering her eyes.

“I need it!”

Suddenly, she was leaning over, clawing at Justin’s pants so roughly that the car swerved dangerously.

“Jeez, Jane, stop..!”  Keeping one hand on the wheel, he tried to cover himself with the other, but Jane pushed his hand out of the way impatiently, ripping down his zipper.  She reached in and yanked out his erect member, exposing him.

“Jane!”

She bent over his lap.  He was just about to grab his sister-in-law by her blonde-streaked hair, when he looked back at the road just in time to see that they were about to smash into a slow-moving car ahead of them; and instead, both hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles went white, Justin swerved out into another lane, cutting off another driver badly, who sounded his horn loudly.

Justin was nearly oblivious to it all.  Distracted by the series of near accidents, he hadn’t been able to stop Jane, who was singularly focused on only one thing.  Unobstructed, she buried her face into his lap, taking him into her warm, wet mouth, sucking hard.

“Fucking jesus..!”

Justin was beside himself.  He was nearly frozen in shock by what was happening and yet he had to keep the car on the road.  At the same time, he was immediately wracked with guilt.  His wife’s sister was giving him a blow job while he was driving.

And then, throwing fuel onto the flames of guilt and shame, was just how incredible this was.  It was like his deepest, darkest wish had come to life.  Jane was hot, and she was good.  Claire very seldom performed oral sex on him, and when she had, it was great of course, but overall, it was a relatively tame, average experience.

Jane was totally different.  She clearly knew exactly what she was doing, sucking him hard, swirling her tongue over his swollen head.  She was bobbing her head up and down, lapping the length of his shaft before tonguing hard up against his sensitive underside at the tip.

She was moaning decadently the entire time, as though the taste of him was the most glorious thing she’d ever experienced, sending vibrations up his erection.

“Mmmmmm…. mmmmmmmm…”

“Jane–” Justin choked out, but he couldn’t find anything to say beyond that.  He felt harder than he’d ever been in his life, his cock, rock hard, rigid, throbbing, fit to burst.  It jumped of its own accord, squeezing more blood into his engorged member as Jane’s tongue passed over his slit, licking the precum from it.

Jane let out a gasp as she let his cock slide out of her mouth, a long trailing strand of saliva still connecting the two.

“Oh, it’s good,” she moaned longingly.  “I need it…  I need more of it…”  Her fingers wrapped around his shaft, and she began jerking him off roughly, her delicate hand moving easily up and down, lubricated by her own drool.  “Let me have it…”

Justin’s mind had gone blank.  It was all he could do to keep looking to watch Jane jerking him off and and back up at the road again, summoning all of the will he had not to crash while awash in the pleasure.

“Please…”  Jane’s voice was high with perverse excitement and animal need.  She wrapped her lips back around his thick head, sucking hard again as she continued pumping him, trying to milk his cock into her mouth.

Christ, he could smell her.  The fresh, clean shampoo in her light brown, highlighted hair.  That floral, musky, yer feminine perfume that reminded him of strippers…

Don’t…  don’t do this, Justin thought to himself, even as he continued doing nothing to stop it.  Think.  Think about Claire…

But even as he tried to appeal to his better nature, he could feel his cock growing even more rigid, hot, the pressure building.  In fact, it was tangentially his own wife he was thinking about.  He had never ejaculated Claire’s mouth, not in all these years.  She certainly never wanted him to, and somehow to Justin, it was this symbolic mark of respect, this sign that she was elevated above that, too good for that as his wife.

Her slutty sister on the other hand… he never held her in the same regard, and in the here and now, with her begging for it…  It had been so very long since he’d done this, been able to do this…  He was fit to explode.

“Mmmphhhh…”  Jane could apparently tell he was nearing his climax as well, letting out a muffled groan of anticipation.  At the same time, her hand was working faster, almost frantically beating him off as she sucked at his head so hard it was bordering on pain.

Justin grit his teeth, could feel the hot semen welling up the length of him, pressure building beyond containment in his head as he fought an impossible battle to hold it back, and then after a few more agonizing moments, he felt it all come spewing out, unloading into Jane’s eager mouth.

“Ahhh FUCK!! Justin roared as he came explosively, pulse after jetting pulse.  Trying to hold it in only made the pleasure exponentially greater, and the ecstasy of release was mind-blowing, only amplified by Jane’s continued stroking of his shaft, the suction of her mouth, the lapping of her tongue, greedily swallowing as much as his cum as she could.

His orgasm seemed to last impossibly long and dimly Justin was aware that Jane was orgasming too, moaning loudly around the mouthful of cock, a hand back between her legs against, compulsively rubbing herself through her pants.

He shuddered as he came back down, the pleasure too intense as Jane continued to suck him off, determined to take every last drop of his seed.  Then, at last, she straightened up, letting his member slide out of her mouth.  She leaned back in her seat, head turned up, eyes shut as though savoring the moment.  Drool and semen were running down her pretty chin, and she sloppily wiped at it with a disinterested swipe of the back of her hand.

“It’s good…” she whispered, her voice trailing off.  “So fucking good…”

Her head lolled to the side slightly as she seemingly passed out, leaving Justin to his own thoughts, trying to figure out what the hell had just happened as he drove the rest of the way home.
