We Are Thinking of making our own site instead of Patreon
Added 2021-11-14 18:11:14 +0000 UTCHi guys, the more we post here the more clunky it becomes with Patreon (exspecially when we have to do batch editing, tagging etc. which is nonexistant here) and we were thinking about creating our own website where we can manage and organize things better.
What do you think about the idea?
So far these are just ideas and things will stay like this until this year ends for sure!

thanks if we go with that idea we will have to look more into Patreon's API.

2021-11-15 14:16:42 +0000 UTCYou don't have to dump Patreon entirely. That could be a risky play. Blind Wave are a popular react group who use Patreon for people to sign up, and then members link their Patreon membership with Blind Wave's website (blindwavellc.com) to access the contents. You would just have to learn how to use Patreon's API to link your website with Patreon. They have tutorials and stuff online.

2021-11-15 01:41:14 +0000 UTCMy only concern is maintaining things like account validation and payments is annoying to deal with. Paying for server space or even a full website service might be an additional charge too, dunno what costs are associated with patreon. Also, be careful that you don't get any issues with the C word over the posted content. You'd also have to deal with refunds, cancellations and customer service, unless you're still kind of using Patreon for that.

2021-11-14 22:29:11 +0000 UTCIf this was to be a "privately funded" Homies site, would that then incur a higher subscription rate? Or can a new site be funded by you at about the same rates that members pay now? Apart from that issue - and assuming the "minimum" level of functionality on a new site would be at least the same kind of thing you're doing already, then count me in.

2021-11-14 20:50:51 +0000 UTCOne personal request though, if you do move to your own site, please make the site "dark mode" themed, and not a blinding white web page. It took a while to find a good browser plugin to darken the Patreon page. Opening the white Patreon page on a 50 inch 4K screen was painful.

2021-11-14 20:34:05 +0000 UTCCertainly do what is best for the business and what the majority of people want, but to be honest, I prefer it as is. The main reason is that I subscribe to several Patreon accounts, and right now all of the content is in one place. If you move to a separate site, then your content falls off my radar so to speak, and I'll have to check both sites regularity. That's not the end of the world, but is less convenient. Having it all here makes browsing for something new to watch a lot easier. One possible compromise is to host the videos on your site, and use Patreon to manage the subscription payments and provide a simple link on Patreon to your new site. That way new Patreon posts are just a couple of sentences stating the movie title and which Homies are watching, then we click the link to jump to your new site to watch the video.

2021-11-14 20:17:03 +0000 UTCmy main concern would be payment as i am one of the few people who can't use paypal, I can only pay by card, so if you guys use that im all in.

2021-11-14 19:10:49 +0000 UTCIt's really makes no difference if you are going to still have patreon, People can use witch ever they like. My concern has only been your upload methods and downloading media, there's still reactions I'm unable to watch as they are torrents with zero seeders from the earlier days of your reactions, only stuff uploaded to DRIVE is down loadable now and not everything is on there.

2021-11-14 18:31:25 +0000 UTCSure that is the easiest part. Plus we wont stop using patreon we will just be able to do more on the website so people who are happy with patreon will stay here and those who wants more can go there.

2021-11-14 18:30:49 +0000 UTCAre we able to be refunded on Patreon if you guys stop using this platform?

2021-11-14 18:19:31 +0000 UTCI guess it would come down to the price of membership tiers and the functionality of the new website.

2021-11-14 18:18:07 +0000 UTCHow would payment processing work?
PapaXan
2021-11-14 18:17:45 +0000 UTCI guess if we decide to do it we do this in the begining of the coming month so you just cancel here before you got charged and move there or something like that so you don't get double charged. (Like discount or something for the current members) or here stays as it is and there you get more benefits so you choose whichone do you prefer.
The Homies
2021-11-14 18:14:56 +0000 UTCHow would this affect our current membership and subscription on Patreon if you were to move over?
