Patreon Changes in November (Good & Bad)

Hello hello!

Some changes are coming to Patreon this November. Some are good, some aren't. Here's what you need to know:

Good change:
1) Patreon will switch to Subscriber Billing method
Subscription billing means that if a new person subscribes, they will be charged the day they START, and once a month on that same day afterwards. (Ex: if you pledged $20 on October 20th, you'd be billed that day, then billed on November 20th and so forth.). Current patrons will continue to be charged on the 1st of the month - unless they cancel and resubscribe in November on a different day of the month.

Bad changes:

2) Memberships purchased in the iOS app will be subject to Apple's 30% App Store fee.

This only affects iphone users (androids are safe). It is unclear if this only applies to new subscribers, or of it includes current patrons. Either way, I don't want ANYBODY to pay 30% to greedy apple for no reason whatsoever. This is fee will be charged to patrons (not creators), and it's larger than patreon's own cut from subscriptions!
If you pledged through the Patreon iOS app, I'd seriously recommend re-subscribing through web browser or another device! If you prefer to use your iphone, you can use a browser on the phone (e.g. safari, firefox) rather than the patreon app.

3) APPLE HATES SEX.

Apple was the reason for Tumblr's downfall, as well as other lesser known platforms. They continue to ban and harass platforms that allow adult content. This means my patreon page will be unfindable on iphone app (if it isn't already). I don't know what else to expect with these upcoming changes. I'm hoping patreon doesn't succumb to apple's pressure and start banning NSFW content (like Tumblr).

There's an ongoing conversation between patreon creators, and the frustration is evident within the community. I will let you know if we hear anything else.

Comments

I don't think Patreon will easily be affected to the apple model... The annoying part really from all of this ...is big companies trying to tell everyone how to live there own life ... Like seriously when they used to be small companies they used to be advocate for freedom as long as it brings more users to them ... But the minute they turn big they just go the big brother (حماة التقاليد و العادات ) route🌚 It's frustrating.. but we will figure it out
