D&D Map - Settlement of Dorf
Added 2019-05-22 19:24:45 +0000 UTCAs of the past few months, I've started playing some Dungeons and Dragons, which is a great social game that I have no idea why I never got into before. I have been having huge amounts of fun with it.
Part of the fun of being a Dungeon/Game Master for D&D is the joy of creating a world of your own, filled with places and people of all kinds.
One such place is the settlement of Dorf. A colony in the new world, a recently discovered landmass that the adventurers are going to explore and settle in my homebrew campaign "Settlers of Nolyn".
After looking around for easy map maker tools and whatnot, I ended up giving up and drew a map by hand, I also kept a minimalistic style going to save me from actually drawing highly detailed maps. A huge inspiration for these was Dyson Logos with their incredible maps.
I thought about drawing house by house, but after spending almost an entire hour drawing half a dozen blocks, I decided to go ahead and duplicate pre-made models. So a lot of the outer houses are actually duplicates. I went ahead and threw some flair here and there along with rotating them around. It's harder to notice at a first glance, which is what makes this process so much better for this kind of map making.
I came up with dozens of little methods to speed up the process of map making, and then, I starting laying out maps of actual, individual houses and places the adventurers would do battle on.
Because, fun as city and world maps are, battlemaps are where everyone gets a chance to shine!
