Shroom Sprouter Shield: One-Sided.

Greetings All!

Can’t keep me from a good shield for long! This was inspired by Daryl commonly known as Splatteredink on the web. He was kind enough to run myself and one of the halves of Loottavern through his upcoming kickstarter campaign setting.

I was thrilled with it, so I wanted something that could match the vibe of a forest folk setting. Hence this shield was born! I love myself a new mechanic, so something that can be chipped away when it fails to deflect a blow was just too good to pass up. So the shroom stats were born, and a consumable aspect added for even more of a forest flare.

Description:

These shields are a common sight among Forest Folk or those of the Green Path, but on occasion they will make their way out into the expanses of the world. They consist of a shedded Ironwood, treated for preservation, and then soaked in a guarded combination of mucus and sap. Once this process is complete, the interior is carved with traditional guardian runes, and the edges are coated in a spattering of mushroom spores. After the passing of the next full moon, the enchantment is sealed, and a shield is born.

• While holding this Shield, the user gains a +2 bonus to Armor Class. This is in addition to the Shield’s normal bonus to AC.
  • Each time the user is Hit by an attack that targets AC while wielding this shield, it loses a section of its protective mushroom, reducing the bonus by 1 AC per Hit. This cannot reduce the shield past the normal AC Bonus.
• If reduced, the shield will regrow its mushroom plating over the course of a Long Rest, restoring it to its original +2 bonus to Armor Class.
• These mushrooms are edible, and can be treated as a Ration. Doing so, will reduce the AC of the shield by 1 per consumed ration.
