Fallen King: One-Sided.

Greetings All!

The final item of light source week and my first flail! While wordy, this one is rather simple but to cover the bases takes a bit of clarifying. With a critical effect and a limited use area effect, it covered some new ground.

I’ve never seen Bane used quiet this way, but I wanted something that complimented the fear aspect of the critical without being just disadvantage on fear saves for 1 minute. It definitely opened up some more tactical planning aspects without tying it to just one avenue of play. Tying it to a few other key types of spell verbages, and making something new.

I really hope you like it, because I’m do. The art took quite a bit of extra time, but thanks to @loottavern for giving me some tips for bringing it together!

Description:

This morbid display is a haunting trophy torn from the past. As the story goes, a king was made to suffer the loss of his people at the hands of his foes until his mind too was lost. Stripped of even a notion of himself, the end came when a haphazard crown of spikes pierced through his skull. Taken as a grim reminder, and cursed, it is now a tool of woe.

• Spark of Madness: As a Bonus Action, the user can call forth heatless blue flames from the impaled skull of the flail that shed bright light in a 15ft radius and dim light for an additional 15ft. While ablaze, the flail deals an additional 2d8 psychic damage on hit. These flames last until the user takes a bonus action to calm the madness or drops the weapon.
  • The Mad King: As an action while the flames are present, the user is able to coax forth the maddened spirit within the flail. Its constant cackling can be heard within a 15ft radius. Any creature hostile to the user that starts or enters this radius on their turn must make a DC:16 Charisma Saving throw or suffer the effects of the ‘Bane’ spell while in the area. This laughter persists for 1 minute without concentration and cannot be used again until the next long rest.

Tormented Soul: When the user attacks a creature with this weapon and scores a critical hit, the target must make a DC: 16 Wisdom Saving Through or become Frightened of the user until the end of their next turn.
