I think atp the author needs to start adding some sort of tw. This level of sexual harassment and extortion is reaching a level that is clearly making a lot of people uncomfortable. I see how the toxicity is a plot device here and how there's also people who enjoy reading it (it's fiction after all, so it shouldn't be forbidden), but we need to remember that a lot of people came here for the mostly harmless best friends to lovers trope, so a warning would be appreciated. Especially if it gets any more violent.

Yeah, I can totally get people being put off by it, and I get the disgust. I think I've just become so numb after seeing this trope in media so often (ESPECIALLY in queer media, for some reason). I'd generally steer clear from this kinda thing despite it giving me the ick, but I'm so far into this story that I'd rather not drop it; I've loved Kai so far (well, not so much right now but I digress), I am curious about Axel's backstory that gave him this internalized homophobia (based on comments it sounds like he's closeted rather than thinking he's straight), I want to find out who actually outed Onyx, etc. Too much lore in my brain to quit now. episodes 144-145, 150-152, and 160 really highlight the progression of kai and axel’s relationship, even if it’s subtle. in episode 144, axel suddenly leaves, and while we don’t know exactly why, there are a lot of possible reasons. most of the chat seems to believe he had a gay panic moment after kai pinned him against the wall, got a little too excited about it, and shoved kai away before running off. later, he returns to his dorm, but the fact that he left in the first place says a lot. then, in episodes 150-152, we actually get to see a softer side of their dynamic. their interactions have a surprisingly wholesome undertone, and by the end of it all, axel even eats a sandwich straight from kai’s hand. it’s small, but it’s something. and in episode 160, axel notices kai’s bruises and scars. he’s curious, but because of his pride, he refuses to ask about it. still, the fact that he even notices and seems to care, even if he won’t admit it, shows that he’s starting to pay more attention to kai in ways he probably doesn’t fully understand yet. idk, man. to me, it’s there. this is a dark romance tendencies. yeah, it’s a subplot, but axel does show interest in kai—maybe not in the obvious, straightforward way, but it’s there. he cares, or at the very least, he’s curious. and that curiosity? it matters. he might not fully understand what he wants because he’s never experienced this before, and honestly, neither has kai. this is new for both of them. their relationship has always been aggressive, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t something deeper underneath. it might seem weird if you’re not into this type of genre, and that’s totally okay. dark romance isn’t for everyone. but i just hope you can at least understand their dynamic for what it is. it’s not normal in the conventional sense, and it never will be to people who aren’t into this kind of story. but for them? it’s their normal. if that makes sense. also, just to be clear, i’m not arguing or trying to force anything—i totally get that this genre isn’t for everyone. i just like explaining it to people who might not be familiar with it, because at the end of the day, it’s just a story. lol :)))

Firstly I would like to say thank you for replying in a calm and respectable manner. I would like to discuss this further if you would like in the same manner. I didn’t mention this in my previous comment, but I do believe it is exactly as you said. When I looked back, Axel didn’t have his phone nor was he shown to be there when they kissed. He was shown after the fact which I believe you have stated. I do think someone else must’ve followed them and stood in the exact spot. Secondly, if you truly think about it, why hasn’t the author confronted Axel directly yet with Keane? When Keane and Axel first saw each other in the dorm, why wouldn’t the author make Keane confront Axel about the photo then and there? So far, nobody has confronted Axel directly about the photo except Kai and when it was finally mentioned to him, he was going to deny doing it. Not only that but he was interrupted which finally would’ve confirmed something. I do believe that Axel just happened to come and see them in only the episode he was shown. We can’t forget either that Axel being the one to out them hasn’t been confirmed yet. As to why it hasn’t been confirmed yet, who knows? I do think there is someone in the shadows and as for Hailey, she did apologize. Thank you so much for pointing that out… although, I do think that perhaps she still might have some hurt feelings. It’s not out the scope of possibility for her to have seen Keane walking to wherever they were walking and followed him, and eavesdropped as well. She is in the same school and maybe she wanted to talk to him. However, I do know this is a chance but it’s so suspicious how the author really wants us to believe it is Axel, how they laugh when people bad mouth him, AND hasn’t even confronted it yet. However, I would like to say that Axel did see them kiss but there were two kisses at that spot. If you look at the episode where Axel appears, Keane kisses Onyx on the cheek, not on the lips. Not to mention, they’re basically implying having sex, and seeing how Axel reacts when hearing that as seen in the chapter now, it can be seen that the faces he made are kind of similar. I do agree that it would be interesting and if he did in fact do it then damn I’ve been so fooled. I am open to being persuaded though because if he did do it then he did do it. I really appreciate your feedback though!! If you have moreee to say then please! I love theory crafting and what not!

Axel hasn't expressed any interest in BDSM or any kind of dom-sub relationship, yet. It becomes okay only when both parties want it to actively happen. The people who signed up for this did not know or were not informed that this is a dark romance with a BDSM subplot. So people did not sign up for this. I looked back on your comment from the last episode. It’s very unlikely to be Hailey’s or Ethan’s doing. Axel is definitely at least indirectly responsible for Onyx being outted. Hailey was upset and lashed out at Keane for rejecting her in Ep.72, but then immediately apologized for it in Ep.73. We see the photo which outted Onyx in Ep.113. It is taken from exactly where we see Axel standing in Ep. 108, where we see Keane and Onyx are agreeing to head back at that moment. They only kiss once at that location, as we can see in Eps. 106. From Axel’s behavior in Ep. 108, I believe Axel witnessed them kissing. We see in Ep. 104 that Axel is suspicious of Keane and Onyx, which telegraphs his intention to follow them. If we believe Axel did not take the photo, then we would need to believe in addition to Axel, there was another person who also decided to pursue Axel and spy from exactly the same spot where Axel is standing, unnoticed or unacknowledged by Axel. OR that for whatever reason Axel could not follow them immediately, and some other person decided to follow, photographed the kiss, and fled the scene. And then Axel arrives, missing seeing them miss, and missing seeing this other person… and reacts as if “he just seen a ghost” just by witnessing them flirt with each other in Ep. 107-8. I doubt Axel would be comfortable spying Keane and Onyx meanwhile someone else is standing there photographing them. This all seems like too much of a stretch, and isn’t foreshadowed at all in this scene. What I COULD believe is that MAYBE Axel did not mean to out the boys to the whole school. Maybe he took the photo and shared it with a friend to prove that he was not crazy in his suspicions. And then it spread from there. Axel caused the boys to be outted, either intentionally or not. But you can still like him as a character, he might have done a terrible thing, but he has the ability to grow and be redeemed for it. I think that’s a way more interesting and compelling character than one who is wrongly blamed for doing something that frankly felt very “in character” for him to do.

it’s not everybody’s cup of tea, and i get that, but at the same time, believe it or not, it’s a kink that’s actually pretty normalized in the real world. you don’t always see it happening in front of you, but things like collaring, dom & sub relationships, and bdsm are real, and a lot of people are into them. bdsm has been around for decades, and kinks like degradation are real. there’s nothing wrong with it as long as both parties are on the same page. i’m not saying it’s for everyone, but if both people consent and set boundaries, they’ll engage in it safely. meaning, if axel isn’t completely comfortable with what kai is doing, he’ll have a safe word that they’ve already discussed. that’s the whole point of communication in these dynamics—before anything happens, they’ll talk about it, set rules, and make sure they both know their limits. (at least in most cases.) that’s why kai is telling axel, “he won’t force him.” meaning axel has the ability to set rules and boundaries if kai ever becomes too much for him. this kind of dynamic isn’t about outright control—it’s about mutual understanding and knowing each other’s limits. axel might not realize it yet, but he does have power in the situation, and if something crosses a line for him, he can stop it.

He thinks Axel outed him, ruining what was left of his life and prompting him to run away and become homeless. hi chat, i keep seeing mixed reviews about kai and axel’s relationship, which i find funny because the whole point of their dynamic is that it’s a toxic/dark romance. that’s how most dark romance relationships work—they’re not meant to be normal, healthy relationships. kai, the main love interest, is a dominant figure. he has money, power, and comes from a family involved in a gang. axel, on the other hand, is submissive, deep in debt to kai’s father, struggling with his sexuality (though he doesn’t fully realize it yet), and comes from a much poorer background. so, of course, kai is going to take advantage of axel when he’s vulnerable—it’s exactly what you’d expect in this kind of story. and for kai, it’s an added bonus that he gets to know axel for who he truly is, especially considering his history with onyx. axel selling his body to pay off his debt? that’s a classic trope in dark romance. it’s literally what kai said in this chapter: an eye for an eye. axel helps kai with his sexual needs, and in return, kai covers part of his debt. later on, once axel starts accepting the arrangement (which he will), i assume he’ll set boundaries—because in this kind of dynamic, the submissive usually establishes a set of rules for the dominant to follow. the more they mess around, the more they’ll crave each other, but at the same time, they’ll start genuinely getting to know one another. yes, axel is in a shitty situation, but this is normal for this type of dark romance. kai isn’t just being cruel—if anything, he actually likes axel, or he wouldn’t be bothering with him in the first place. he’s willing to test the waters, push axel’s limits, and pay off his debt, which already shows a level of investment. moral of the story? give dark romance a chance lol

Yeah I totally get your point, but he’s also giving him the reality of the situation of what could potentially happen. Axel is screwed either way. Axel was also the one who got himself into this mess by relying on loan sharks, and his dad even warned him about it not to go through this route. I have no idea why he didn’t look into other options from the very beginning like scholarships, work study, part time school while working, etc. before resorting to drastic measures. Maybe he didn’t think there was another way and didn’t have proper guidance to show him there are other ways to achieve his goal. Idk, I feel bad for him. One bad choice can lead to more bad choices out of desperation. I don’t think Kai is bad, and I think he will continue to go on dates with Axel and not force him into anything, and then maybe after finding out more about Axel’s story and character, I have a feeling that Kai will just pay off the loan and call off the benefits deal after catching feelings for him.

I think the most toxic thing Kai did in recent episodes is convince Axel to hookup with the girl then get angry he did. Other than that, Kai is giving Axel a way out of his debt situation that he knows damn well is gonna kill Axel sooner rather than later. What WAS the point of accumulating that debt to attend school, but having to work so much you hardly have time to eat and aleep much less go to school. Regardless Kai still tells him he won't force him and to just think on it. I've read some things on webtoon so toxic I put them down and never went back. I have a few predictions. The first is that Axel will agree, but Kai will feel bad and just tell him to forget it. But Axel will have gotten curious in the meantime and will want to later without the pull of being a sugar baby. Kai will pay off his debt because he wants to. The second is that Kai will feel bad for offering and take it back before Axel decides. He’ll pay off some of Axel’s debt, and Axel will find out and be angry about it because he will think it’s about Kai pressuring him. Kai will somehow convince him it’s not true, and Axel will soften towards him. And then they’ll get together. Or, third, Axel will agree and it’ll be a straight up BDSM sugar baby situation. Either way, I’m here for it all. 🫣

It may be persuasive since it sounds like a very good deal and an easier road to pay off his debt, but ultimately Kai left it up to Axel to decide. Axel is an adult who can make his own choices. He can easily say, “No thanks. I’m going to find work elsewhere and deal with it on my own.” So if he chooses to go through with the deal, that’s on him, no one else 🤷🏻‍♀️

Happy to see Keane and Onyx again. A little worried about Axel. If he accepts that very extreme proposition to essentially sell his body, it could take a toll on his mental well-being and he could potentially spiral. And the spiral could include prostitution elsewhere and although the premise of the story is young men in college, his story is already dark and difficult and that doesn't just disappear overnight. Also, Kai is from what looks like a criminal family, his continued interactions with Axel may attract the wrong attention.
