Time Spent vs Money Earned

TL;DR I'm spending too much time for very little kickback, and something has to give.

I've been putting about as much effort into Mini Commissions as I put into normal commissions. That means I've been investing about 8-12 hours of work (2-3 days usually). I'm frequently left to my own devices for these with very little direction, which means I have to work out a pose, gimmick, or scenario on my own, which usually leads to a couple hours of just sketching thumbnails trying to dig for an idea that feels right, including looking for references, on top of the usual workload of multiple sketch passes, flat colors, sometimes lines, and sometimes multiple layers of shading, in addition to simple abstract BGs.

For Mini Commissions, at $50 a pop at 8-12 hours of work, that means I'm earning about $4.16 to $6.25 an hour. That puts me WELL below the poverty line with regards to my state's cost of living!

That said...

I want my $50 Mini Commissions to be strictly flat color, with more simple poses (i.e. no perspective/foreshortening, just simple standing, sitting, or lounging poses with simple actions like flexing, pointing, balancing on one foot, etc), and possibly fewer sketch passes, which means they may come out looking SLIGHTLY less clean.

In the future, starting February, would you be willing to pledge $50 for a guaranteed mini commission slot under these conditions?
