criticism

I have been feein really down again guys, so I made this too illustrate my feelings towards the hoards of "critics" I have online.

Became a Patreon relatively recently, but I discovered your animated shows on YouTube a couple years ago and I have been obsessed ever since. I have NEVER seen anyone do ANYTHING so unapologetically unique like that. Anyway, I can’t contribute much but know you have (and will always have) real die hard fans

You're gong to do great I know it!

Death of Ink

Well, I could point out the flaws but overall your Zoophobia comic is pretty darn good. And I know you work on this project all by yourself. Artwork, storyline, characters, etc.. It’s all done by you. Most of comics have at least 5 artists who work on it. And you’ve done this all by yourself! I think you should be proud of what you accomplished! There is some stuff that I would love to see improved (fleshed out storyline, dialogs) but I do understand that you work on this by yourself and honestly, you can’t be a mastermind in every field. But know this, your artwork totally rocks. On the side note, your comic really helped me when I was very unhappy about myself, my life and my job… All that is thanks to your comic and the part where Jackson is having a session with Walden. Somehow you managed to make this character so appealing and relatable to me.. Thanks for that! :) keep being awesome and try not to get upset about bad comments! Can we have a deal on that? :))

https://youtu.be/DSPcfYw2knI Any time people criticize you, you should keep the lyrics of this song in mind. :)

jrmillstone

Dont let them get you down. Your story and art style is so unique it inspired me to start drawing after a long dry spell. your work is your own and you should be proud of it!

I can't imagine how difficult it must be to hear criticism like this on such a large and public scale. If people cannot come up with any kind of constructive comment, then I wouldn't even acknowledge their "critiques". You do amazing and unique works of art. Those false "critics" are likely to be trolls who are jealous of your success.

Austin Ladshaw

I think people need to learn how real critique looks and when it goes over to rude and pretty much unreadable, like, why he/she didnt like it/ what could have been better, theres still a freaking person behind the screen ya know!!!

mathilda berglund

Argh. People who critique you without actual constructive feedback are simply rude, and jealous of the fact they don't have your same creative perspective. It takes skill to make, art, and even greater skill to make in unique, like you do. Be glad that there's no one else like you, and don't listen to any toxic people :).

Ök

No, but I'm here because of what you CAN express, and it's pretty great.

You guys have no idea how much all your words mean. Your opinions matter so much to me considering you guys are literally helping me continue what i do! I love you guys so much I can't even express <333

Vivienne Medrano

Fuck those critics. Seriously don't listen to them. 90 percent of them cant draw themselves and the other ten percent are just jealous of your fan base.

Clockwork wolf

I never second guess the artist. Its rude. Your world and your characters are YOURS to command. Period.

Overton Hallford

Wish I had something helpful to say, but everyone else has already said it. So I'll say it anyways. Don't let these guys get to you, and surround with people who not only like and love your work, but want you to succeed. Keep the love train goin

KHVathiel

I hope ya enjoy Thanksgiving, just unplug for a bit, relax and find a small hobby to indulge in. Noone would deny a hardworking artist for just sitting back and gathering themselves and breathing for a bit. Trust me, stepping back for a bit from any negative source for a bit just leaves you feeling energized and positive.

Please keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t take advice from these turds. If you did, it’d be their work, not yours, and I want to see your work.

VGR

I wonder just how much of the whinging is because they're jealous they can't touch your work so have to bash to feel 'good'. Personally, I have scrolled thru many hundreds of comments on your youtube videos, and, very many are quite positive. But the real gems, IMHO, are those quiet notes that say that your work has inspired them to get up and try again, or just give this whole art thing a go. One of these is worth 1,000s of the trolls comments. And there are quite a few of these comments in there. Who knows who you've pulled back from giving up? Your work is inspiring to many! (And it'd good, too!:)

D. Stuart

It's a shame that people these days would rather attack and hope it "works" (which it doesn't) than to thoroughly point out the flaws and construct a legit critic and consider how the artist would feel.

Green-Guy Geno

It's always the negative comments that stick with you the most. I'd say try not to let it get to you, but I know it's not that easy. Just know that the people who support you here are here because you are a good and unique artist! And we love your work just the way it is!

Sentinel373

Don't feel so down, Vivienne, there's always going to be someone who doesn't like your work. The most important thing is to do what your heart wants to do, and that's draw whatever fantastic thing you want. Honestly, I feel there are lot more lovers than haters of your work, us your patrons included. Your a great and talented person, keep on doing what you're doing and we'll keep loving you every step of the way!

Benjamin Varner

The true critic isn't one that tries to take the time spouting vile and negative things, but rather shows true appreciation of the art and a means of progress. It's why I posted the video on tumblr that silverquill made that gives a true insight on criticism and knowing who is looking for progress and who is just making demands and noise. Here's the link to it. Silver does a way better explanation then i could https://youtu.be/g2Er_VRIfw4

It's awful how some people treat you,yes you do have some flaws as with anybody, but you treat people with grace and go about your life in a very sweet and earnest way! You deserve to be treated with dignity. Whiners are always going to whine;I can relate to how hard it is,but hang in there okay? You're an awesome cartoonist!

Garrett Simpson

You are one of my favorite artists and your work is so great I will gladly own any kind of art print or shirt of any of your characters of Zoophobia or Hazbin Hotel. I'm sadden there are people out there who are giving you a hard time. If it makes you feel better, I don't read any blogs or websites that say anything harsh about you. You are an inspiration for a struggling artist like myself who too had a share of harsh remarks in the past. I always give a deaf ear to the haters and accept the people who like my work. So do your art your own way and don't let any critics or trolls get to you. We fans are the true believers who support you in anyway possible.

J

People make the mistake of assuming that art is created for them. That it should be massed produced for the public. It is not. Art is created because the artist feels the need to express themselves through a medium. To hell with the critics and the haters. Create because you want to create. I love your art and I want to continue to see it. Don't change it.

Felipe Estrada

(Hugs) I'm sorry people are being awful. You're art is awesome.

Dave

I would say nothing about how your art should look like. I enjoy your work, though I'm poor with giving criticism, helpful or otherwise. Keep up the good work, and change what you think is necessary.

Vivid everybody has there own style of art that makes them unique, I firmly belive that your art is just that your own style. Ignore the bad and welcome the good and as a fellow artist I'll tell you this you draw what you enjoy and don't let anybody else tell you how to do your style. Cheers love and as always enjoy what you draw.

Legendaryheroaegis

The loudest voices are often the harshest. None of it matters when you got the support of a bunch of awesome fans, who only want to see you do what you do best and do it the way YOU want to. Hopefully one day people will realize that they gotta fix their own crap before judging others. Hang in there. :-)

It's disappointing that some people can feel the need to dump on someone, and to do so without any sort of actual criticism or sympathy. We're all learning and always will be. I hope you get to feeling better, Vivz, you deserve to feel good about your art. You are one of my greatest inspirations and seeing your artwork pushes me to improve. I'm giving all the support I can from here!

TinyBear93

and know we are here for you. That may not mean much, but still.

never forget, theres a difference between a critic and a troll. Only one is worth listening to and learning from. A good critic can love somebodys work , but still talk about issues. while a troll does nothing but shit on your stuff (pardon my language). i know its hard, but focus on the critics who actually give a actual critic , and ignore the trolls.

Who hurt you! I will feed them to the wolves!

LesbianCarwash

Don't listen to non-constructive criticism. They're just lame. Your artwork is awesome and Zoophobia is amazing. Keep up the great work!
