Sticker Sale, Commissions, and the Future of Porn in my Work

First off, I'd like to announce that all of our stickers in the merch shop are currently half-price for the next thirty days! This includes our newest one here featuring Madelyne Pryor. Enter the code Summer2024 during checkout to apply your discount if you're interested.

Secondly, you might have already noticed that I've re-listed commission waiting list access as a $10 reward here. The list is currently open again for supporters on that tier. If you're new here, the reason I've always set it at that level is that it keeps the list from getting too big for me to handle. And even then it doesn't always work. It took me two years to finish the last list I opened in 2022.

I usually try to discourage supporters from upping their pledges only for the sake of commission access, though. Some warnings: with a few notable exceptions I normally choose names with a randomizer tool, it could be literally years before I get to your name, and my prices start at $125 for one character and $65 for each additional one. That said, I try to manage at least two commissions per month to keep the list moving at a decent clip, you don't have to stay pledged at $10 to remain on the list after your initial buy in, and to my knowledge I've never left a client unhappy with the work. If you do decide to join that tier, send me a PM on the Discord server and I'll get you on the list while it's still open.

Lastly, the porn. It's been two months since my personal troubles came crashing down. And while I'm not back to a hundred percent by a long shot, I feel more stable now. With a clearer head, I'm wondering if going 100% R-rated was a bit of an over-correction to my issues at the time.

I was hesitant to bring this up at first. I feel kind of stupid, making such a bold declaration of a change in direction only to waffle on it barely two months later. But it's clear to me now that the difference between being hardcore porn artist or a softcore porn artist really isn't going to make much of a tangible difference in the grand scheme of the problems that arose for me. As far as my social standing is concerned, I'm still drawing smutty cartoons at the end of the day, and whether they're R-rated or X-rated really won't move the needle much as to how my content is perceived by those around me. So it's either quit the whole comic or continue and rethink things. I choose to continue.

The recent Morgan and Warren scene was the first one to test my new direction, so I'll break down what I liked and didn't like. I liked that it was snappier, more quickly paced. Not slowed down with gratuitous penetration close ups and focused more on the relationship dynamics between the two partners involved. I also don't miss the page taking a couple extra hours to make while I arduously paint gallons of semen that I have to place correctly depending on where it landed on the woman in every single panel. (In that last one with Casey and Fontaine, it took me a whole extra day.)

That said, having no money shot at all just felt wrong. I can't shake the feeling that without them, TRW is giving up too much of its identity. It also hit me in this scene that with this new direction, male nudity is out the window and that will be very limiting to me in the future. Softcore scenes allow for man-ass-shots only and you can guess how I appealing I find those by how I almost never fucking do them.

So what's the play here, then? I'm leaning towards a middle ground of sorts. Shorter scenes without close up penetration panels bogging things down, more panels featuring angles that leave something to the imagination, but not censoring/omitting all penetration entirely. And still present semen/ejaculations but in smaller, more realistic volume rather than the bucket loads I've been showing in the past.

I'm no longer all that enthused about drawing high school characters having explicit sex. But maybe instead of trying to rush the end of the comic to start something new, I should instead try to focus on just expediting the Castlewood class to graduation day, and continue their stories from there.

It's a lot to consider. If it's one thing that this year has taught me it's that your whole life can change in the blink of an eye. What feels right today may feel wrong tomorrow. I no longer think I should make big declarations about the future of my work, and I'm just going to keep making comics every week for as long as I'm able to, featuring whatever content feels natural to me as I go. In the meantime your feedback would be very valuable if you have it.

I'm new and really late to the game on this. But moving on to a post-high school graduation world (with a time skip) is what they did in Riverdale after Season 1(?), and it worked. So that's a great direction if you want to try it.

Coffee Sunshine

Nicely said! :)

Reinbach

It must! :)

Reinbach

It's like in good music. Everything has it's place. If it's out of order, if it's overused it looks it looks/sounds stupid. The right place and right amount makes majority of overall impact. And often less is more actually.

eF..cz

Retconning Castlewood High to a college would be very funny

Pork private

I hear ya. A prequel comic about Sylvia might be cool

Lord Washington

...and the art and the spicy stuff. 😁

Pat Bryant

The “spice” must flow:)

NKL

Thanks! I think so too.

Reinbach

Love it. XD

Reinbach

Glad to hear! That may indeed be what I end up doing. XD

Reinbach

Well hopefully it will be an interesting one! :)

Reinbach

They did! XD

Reinbach

I'll do my best not to disappoint!

Reinbach

Thanks for the confidence! :)

Reinbach

Thanks, I think this is the right call. :)

Reinbach

I appreciate your input as always over here. :)

Reinbach

It's true they never do any real high school stuff, huh. XD This could have easily been a college all along.

Reinbach

Thanks! :)

Reinbach

Thank you!

Reinbach

Thank for sharing! What you're saying sums up the art vs. porn distinction perfectly.

Reinbach

Welcome aboard in any case! And hopefully I can find a middle ground on the semen volume.

Reinbach

Well I'm hoping I can still convey the lewdness of a big cumshot while still painting it in more realistic proportions. Less is more, maybe? Time will tell if I can pull it off.

Reinbach

Great! :)

Reinbach

Thanks!

Reinbach

The comic will not be coming to an end in a year. I mean, you never know what life is going to throw at you. But as of this writing I want to keep making TRW indefinitely.

Reinbach

As of now, the plan is to keep making TRW for as long as I possibly can. :)

Reinbach

I think so too! :)

Reinbach

For sure, it would be fun to consider what jobs they might all end up at after they graduate. :)

Reinbach

Greatly appreciated! :)

Reinbach

Thank you! I'll do my best!

Reinbach

Thank you!

Reinbach

Love it. XD

Reinbach

Considering how close she came to never getting soaked again in the comic, Parker would probably be happy to take what she can get! XD

Reinbach

Thank you for the good faith in my integrity over here! :)

Reinbach

Thank you, and I only slander the bucket loads for how they add an extra day of work, not for their appearance! XD

Reinbach

Thank you, and thanks for joining!

Reinbach

I'd considered that, but generally when I do big time skips they go over mixed at best. XD

Reinbach

Thanks for sharing! And for the record you wouldn't need to bump back when your turn comes. The one-time buy in is enough, you just need to send me a Discord message once you're there and you're lock in the list.

Reinbach

Much appreciated! :)

Reinbach

Great! :)

Reinbach

Thank you!

Reinbach

I think so! I t will certainly open up a lot more story possibilities.

Reinbach

X rated content with R rated sensibilities seems like the way to go.

Iokua

Hardcore when appropriate makes a lot of sense, no? Sometimes what you don't see is even better than what you do. Pages 359, 360, and 361 were super hot! The panties around the ankles, the close-up of her face, and then broad shot of her being taken from behind... I don't need to *always* see explicit penetration. Sometimes a head in a lap from behind is hotter than a dick in a mouth from up front. (old proverb?)

George

I still think many of the issues you worry about would be solved almost in their entirety if all the characters were university/college students. Everyone being in their mid-late 20s would get rid of the awkwardness and suspension of disbelief of this being set in a Senior-year high school. I understand you've also said that you don't have much lived experience with post-secondary, but that's why your fans are here! We want to help you with stuff like this! It'd be a perfect opportunity to ask questions and gain new ideas for your comic!

Call Me ET

For what one random guy thinks, following the current cast into full adulthood and beyond was an option I never imagined could consider.

Jon

I figured something like this was coming; obviously I'm not familiar with your personal situation but it seemed very strange to me that you switched to R rated but were still very obviously making porn haha. If you're gonna make porn anyway imagine I the limitations felt frustrating and arbitrary

Deano

Like many others, I feel the Middle-ground you propose is the right way to go. Firstly, I'm here for the story and the characters, but that being said, seeing those characters have sex is what brought me to your work...I'm looking forward to what you have in store for us!

Chris Davis

Do what you’re comfortable with, I’ve loved the world since Switch, and i trust you to make the right calls

Vince

Soft-core/R-rated is like forcing members to eat a candy bar still in its wrapper and saying, 'Come on guys, it still tastes the same' when it really, really doesn't. You're a superb *erotic* artist, Mr. R, and amazingly sexy ladies like Casey and my beloved Courtney function best in an erotic context. The scene between Morgan and Warren was desperately unrealistic without the penetration and cumshots and hearing you've decided to reconsider is really excellent news... =)

Alex Barton

This is the more natural, reasonable course I was hinting at. Slowly shifting to a different status quo so that you can fulfill the reader's needs and your own.

Licorice Lain

I won’t miss the gallons of sperm, nor really that the characters would be SO young. As the characters didn’t look particularly young save a couple (Holly, Parker) it didn’t seem to matter what the setting was, and IRL people under 20 or so don’t look that hot to me- just too young compared to me now. Plus it not being a high school can improve parts of the setting. Like explaining why an entire high school is 18, lol. It’s not like characters are in class much or are seen doing sports or getting detention. My main issue with a setting change would be my favorite character being a high school vice principal, lol.

ScuzzBucket

sending all the supportyo n nice stickers

GhostlyJudge

I found TRW on a site full of fetish comics I didn't care for. But I liked TRW for the humor. That's it.

Pat Bryant

As someone who never cared one wear or the other for the money shot mess, I do think that's not really so much of an issue in either direction of suicidal respectability. Honestly, the biggest deal there is going to be commercialism. If you make money and are associated with big players, society gives you a pass. If HBO remade Bible Black, most people would look at it the way they do Game of Thrones which is closer to arthouse than porn. Ontologically, the big difference between porn and art is that art uses sex to serve the story and uses what you don't see to titillate, where porn's point is to get you off and the story serves that end and the scenes titilate with the lurid and forbidden details shown. Your scenes are mixed, but lean to the former, but this distinction only matters to critics. Blue is the Warmest Color was very much pornographic and explicitly so, but the framing and characters lead to it being accepted as art within the film community despite critique of the sex scenes being unnecessarily long and graphic. In short, you can't do much about what people think of you other than sell out to someone they already have an opinion of. Best to do what's right for you.

Anne

New subscriber here! I do miss the gratuitous amounts of semen being pumped into all the girls orifices! However, I can imagine it adds a lot of time to your work! Either way, the pages have been great quality!

Jay

So, I'll be honest, the excessive cum in sex scenes was part of the appeal of the comic to me. I'll still be reading it either way, but it was one of the main features that set you apart from others and caught my attention originally- most artists either don't do it or do it in ways that aren't really appealing. Just registering my opinion, do what makes you comfortable, man.

Michael Stacy

i very much like the idea of the middle-ground you propose here.

KaijuWhite

I'm glad you are moving to a middle ground approach. I'm also excited to see "TRW: The college years"

Nikuthulhu

I'd be happy for more graphic scenes. That's what brought me here afterall. But honestly I'm just stoked that the comic might not be coming to an end in a year, I've really grown to love the characters. That being said, I would want you to be comfortable and happy with whatever content that you produce. So I would make that your priority if possible!

llCDll

Something you'd mentioned when you first made the announcement that TRW would need to come to an end when you had originally planned to do it indefinitely, I was heartbroken. Not because I'm a fan of giant cum shots or penetration panels but because even though the porn is what brought me to TRW I stayed because I grew to genuinely love the characters. At the end of the day whatever you need to do to be comfortable then you should do that and ill be happy for you. But if you're looking for input I hope TRW goes on forever and that you find joy doing it.

Sullivan

penetration and realistic ejaculations seems like a good idea to me , and yea just have the cast graduate , it'll give you more freedom as well for different settings and situations.

721shadow

I think graduation would be a good move. It might ease some of your feelings about stigma (maybe not, idk) but also it'd probably give you a lot more freedom to take the story wherever seems interesting to you.

Count Cockula

Personally, I didn’t miss the excessive ejaculation but I did miss the penetration. That’s just my vote. FYI I’ll keep reading whichever way you go.

Byron

Whatever you choose, it’s your decision and I guess we can all respect it. Now as far as I’m concerned, I must say I’ve never been fan of bazillions of cum shots on female characters and I’ve even contacted you once about TRW being more grounded. So, and if you feel like it at the end, I like your middle ground approach. Drawing real sex scenes is at the core of this comics as much as the story you developed since so long. Speaking for myself but I would venture to say for others too, these two aspects of your work are intimately intertwined. And depicting more real sexual encounters with the lovable characters you’ve created would only make your work more great as far as I’m concerned. Call me crazy, but with my wife we like your work with its diverse characters and I would use it to give a glimpse of what socials and sexuals interaction may look like to our daughter. Sure it’s a comic and I’m sure some would say overly sexual but all your characters have, male or female, seem respectful of their partner even if it doesn’t look like it (hint latest switch male partner). TLDR: you’re a pretty good artist and do what you feel right.

Widil

The idea of more snippy sex scenes WITH shown penetration sounds great! The last Morgan / Warren scene worked well in that regards - the sex was had, and the story pacing felt great. However, I won't lie and think it wouldn't have been enhanced w/ hardcore elements. And as I've probably said prior - the TRW money shots were some of my fave parts of scenes! Them being less superhuman, is more than fine. I have a feeling even w/ a reduction...the 💦 will STILL be copious. There's plenty of IRL porn scenes that end w/ a massive soaking. But again, I'm sure you'll figure out a balance. Anyway, thanks for sharing your process as always! No matter what happens next, I think we can safely say, we'll support your work no matter what 🤘. You are one of the best right now!

NomadicWanderer

Announcing the grand opening of castlewood U! Located on the same site and lot as the former castlewood High! Also, your principal has been promoted to President! The vice-principal's new job title is Dean! All your stuff is still in the lockers you left them in on Friday.

Darryl Williams

I'm going to be following these comics for as long as you're drawing them no matter what they are rated But I will say the 'excessive cum' tag on certain websites is how I found Switch all those years ago. Definitely a fan of how you handle that subject matter, and would be very excited to see cockandballs once again I expect Parker to have some in universe explanation about why volumes have decreased, however.

xavier kazi

Feedback is difficult without specifics, but I am NOT going to pry. That being said: Narrative integrity in my own work is the bedrock/hill on which I will die. Characters should act only in ways that are true to themselves, and since all characters are created by the Author, they should only act in ways that maintain the Author’s integrity. You work in a visual medium, and because of that, narrative integrity for you will have a visual component. Find it, then keep your eye on it so that as you change, you can continue being true to yourself.

Mark Hunter

You have to do what makes you comfortable. Anything else will not work. With that said - I miss the porn. The difference between R and X rating is as you say; the scenes don't feel complete. It's like snapshots of your work, and I want it all! It also helps that I've never seen your characters as highschoolers. To me this is Castlewood College: they're all 18+, and the whole (Romantic) world is X-rated. If you want to just rush graduation to get them to a point in your mind that everything is ok, great. If you just want to re-label it as College, also great. I'd prefer the X-rating, and hope you can get there again. Hope everything pans out irl for you, man. (and what is this bucket load slander!)

A

I just subscribed right before the change from X-rated to R-rated And at first, I was disappointed. But then I realized that the entire reason I’ve been reading the comic in the first place was because I had grown to care about the characters and I was invested in the story you were telling. I’m really excited and interested to see what happens to these characters after they graduate from high school. And I completely trust whatever decisions you wanna make!

Cameron

I was going to suggest a sequel comic that focuses on the characters in their 20s, but your idea works too.

Lord Washington

I'm glad the x rating is coming back. Your porn in exceptional in this field and it's why I'm proudly a fan. Going to miss the cumshots being as huge as they once were. They were always a glorious sight and I really appreciate all the work you put into them. I hope the cumshots coming will still be epic, even if not as detailed. I think it's just the sheer volume of cum that made them work so well. I don't know if that helps you (maybe there's a way to make it less work but still have huge loads) but it's my honest opinion. And with all of that said, I'd love to bump up to the 10$ teir to put my name in for a commission as well. Even if just for a month. I can bump back up the month you draw my name if the wait will be years. Now that porn is back on the table I've still got a few good ideas I'd love to see drawn sometime.

Slaughterbug

Do what you think is right, is is your comic, I’ll probably stick around for whatever you do next

Julian Santiago

that sounds like a great middle ground! excited!

ineedazrael

I appreciate deep consideration of what does and doesn't work for you. Whatever you do, should be best for you! All other considerations are secondary.

GregD

I feel taking them into the real world will help with things.
