This Romantic World Page 359 and 360
Added 2024-06-06 21:45:53 +0000 UTCI try to make every individual page of the comic stand on its own merits if I can, ideally so that new readers might come in and get hooked without having to have read everything that came before. Part of that process for me demands that the last panel should have something punchy in it. What that means to me exactly is hard to articulate but what I want to avoid is for a page to feel like I just ran out of room and had to stop there. Page 359 felt like a ran out of room page when I finished it, so I added an extra half page for the week and now it feels complete for reasons I cannot explain. XD
It feels nice to give Elianna in a shiny happy moment for a change, as her scenes usually revolve around her getting angry in one way or another. Not so much for Casey. Between finding out Bria was pregnant the night before and waking up to Abbey's transformation, she's not having the best morning so far.
Meanwhile Morgan and Warren are running late for school. In this page it really doesn't feel like the R-rated sex scenes are all that different from how I made the X-rated ones. All that's really different in this instance is that I've omitted the penetration close-up panels that would normally be there. I'm more concerned about how to handle next week's page. I may legit have to watch some softcore porn for research purposes because I currently have no idea how to end a sex scene without a money shot.

Of course the ratings get kind of wonky when you do but there's still a whole lot of possibilities out there depending on how far Reinbach can push things.

There are definitely cumshots in R rated films and shots of women with cum on their body post sex. I can't remember the film's name but I know there's a scene of a man cumming on Jennifer Connelly's face and that was honestly pretty graphic, they just didn't show his dick as it was happening. I'd look into things like that and how R rated movies skirt the line/get around censorship. In addition to softcore stuff too. You'd be surprised what can happen in an R rated movie when you're not showing a full on cock or pussy, though even that can appear in a lot of R rated movies lol I also hope you won't be cutting the sex scenes down to like a couple pages. I get trimming them with your new style but I'm sure I'm not alone when I say I'd still want to see them breathe a little and last for a semi decent amount of time. As he put it, "if you write a scene for an auditorium but the budget only allows for a classroom, you go back and think of all the ways a classroom is better than an auditorium and works some of that into the scene so that it wouldn't work as well without the classroom."

Everything from the sex going wrong at the last moment (as I suspect it might be about to with Morgan losing patience with not being used), to it going so right it causes problems (broken furniture, mess on the ceiling, or someone having trouble sitting out talking the next day), or go full on Austin Powers and cover certain parts with perspective or a "match cut." You can also combine all the above. Have a sexy silhouette, then repeat it a panel, then have one person admit they threw out their back and can't move. Have a blowjob jump to the giver getting cream all over her face, only to reveal in the next page that she's having trouble eating an eclair. Have someone walk in on a sex scene the reader expects, but show the shock on the face of the one who walked in on it, then show the scene from behind the witness, the back of their head obscuring the view of what turns out to be far more than the reader expected (a few more participants than the two known about, a camera and lights set up, or even have them walking in on a different couple than the one previous). In all these cases, the lack of detail adds to the surprise.

If they're alone or you need to convert what they're doing, silhouettes and shadows are a classic to consider. At the end of the day, you've given more than enough stimulation to get someone's imagination running and tapping into that can be powerful. For all the great scenes you've done, the one I think about most is the one where Casey got Abbey to do stuff with guys, and party of that is because you only referenced it in like 2 pages and some text which leaves so much left unknown.

You're great at close ups, subtext, and humor, so lab into that for your punchlines.
