So in case you missed the video I posted with the details of Patreon's Charge Upfront feature last month, I should say first and foremost that if you're reading this now it shouldn't affect you at all when I turn it on later tonight.
What the feature means is that new supporters get charged immediately when they sign up. It only affects current supporters if they decide to up their pledge. It has its pros and cons, one of the cons being that I'm probably less likely to get new supporters in the last week of any given month when people know they'll be charged again less than a week later after they sign up. But the upsides are numerous and if you'd like to know the details feel free to scroll down and find the video.
I had planned on implementing this last month but ended up putting it off. But when it turned out that in the month of December I'd received an unprecidented hundred-plus dollars in bogus pledges it became clear to me that it's time to start charging at the door. The change is irreversable so I'm hoping the site doesn't explode. If it does you'll find me in Mexico, tap-dancing on street corners for change to buy super cheap beer that you drink out of little plastic bags with straws. That always sounded like fun to me.
