I think it's safe to say that most times when a female character is portrayed in a video game, the creators are going for an attractive/sexy look for her to make her as appealing as possible. And, as what I imagine would come as a surprise to no one, I personally think that most of the time they just don't push it far enough.
Not that they usually have to. I think the artists behind Bioshock Infinite sparked more attraction from fans with Elizabeth's slightly pushed up breasts than Sega managed with Bayonetta, a character who gets mostly naked whenever she unleashes her powers. (Don't get me wrong, I love Bayonetta.) So I understand the argument that less is more in some cases. But personally I wish more games had the guts to be as shameless and unapologetic with their portrayal of overt sexuality as games like Dead or Alive do.
One such game: Dragon's Crown. The game itself is hardly sexual in the least except for the Sorceress character, shown here. But good God man, the amount of effort put into the flopping breasts during her walk animation alone deserves an award if you ask me. In an era where the latest Tomb Raider game is set in a frozen wasteland, forcing Lara to dress in several layers of insulated coats, I hope to start seeing more of the over-the-top sexiness from games like Dragon's Crown become more common in the future.
