Question of the Week: May 5th, 2022

Last week's question was a great bit of nostalgia for us, and made me miss the great outdoors a whole lot. A huge thank you to everyone who shared their answers!

This week, let's be a bit more philosophical, shall we? I was asked this question during this past weekend's live stream, and I thought it would be a great one to put out there for all of you.

Here's this week's question:

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ What's the best advice you've ever been given? ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Feel free to be as simple or as elaborate as you'd like. I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with! A huge thank you goes to the person who sent this question in on the Google form for the stream! I enjoyed answering it, and I hope you will, too.

Have a fantastic week, everyone, and I'll see you in the comments!

That's outstanding. What others think of us is their business. Once my little brother got in a fight with another kid who called Mom some bad name or other. He got hauled in to the principal's office, and the school called Mom at her job (kind of annoying for her, as she was a teacher herself.) When Bill told her what happened and that he'd been defending her name, she said, "Oh, for God's sake, Bill, who gives a shit? If he'd said I was a lottery winner, would that make me a lottery winner?"

I don't know if this counts, but this question made me realize that off the top of my head i cannot remember a single specific piece of advice I have been given that was not linked to a practical application such as "here's how to change your guitar strings" I've been pelted with so much of it for so long that I think I just filter it automatically now. I'm sure I've been given great advice at some point, but it seems it was probably wasted. Edit- Now that I'm awake maybe the best I can remember is "don't be a victim and accept accountability for your life"

We've had some great answers this week. I guess it's my turn. I said this in the stream, but I'll add it here, too. Mine is, what other people think of you is none of your business. This is something I've been learning to live by and accept myself lately and the more I embrace it, the happier I've been. I ask myself a few basic questions to go along with it: Are those people paying my bills? Nope - their opinion doesn't matter. Are they impacted in any way by what I'm doing? Nope - their opinion doesn't matter. Am I hurting anyone with the decisions I'm making? Nope - their opinion doesn't matter. Can I look at myself in the mirror and be okay with myself as a person? Yup - their opinion doesn't matter. Is my life going to be positively impacted by listening to them? Nope - their opinion doesn't matter. Are we sensing a theme here? I fully believe in doing no harm and in doing as much good for others as we can, but that doesn't mean letting the opinions of others control us. There are people in our lives that we have relationships with and responsibilities to, of course, and that's why the questions above are important, but at the end of the day, you have to live with you and be okay with you. Being happy is not a crime, though some people act like it is. So as long as you're not hurting anyone (or doing anything illegal, of course), living your truth should always come before the opinions of others. That's my take on it anyway. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ
