I'm a Betty Crocker type. I love cooking and baking. As a teen, I had a cake decorating kit and a few skills. (I no longer have all of the tips and bags and such. I have to cobble things together on an as-needed basis now.)
I talk about a recipe in this tidbit. Here's the actual family recipe:
2/3 cups shortening
3/4 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoons grated orange peel (I now use lemon zest)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Cream all of the above together.
1 egg
Add to the mixture, beat until light and fluffy.
1 teaspoon milk
Stir into the wet mixture.
In another bowl, mix the following:
2 cups sifted flour
1.5 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Blend dry ingredient mixture into creamed mixture. Divide dough in half. Spritz lightly with water and chill for one hour.
On a lightly floured surface, roll to 1/8". Cut in desired shapes with cutters. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes. Remove from pan, cool on rack. Yields about two dozen cookies.
