A heavy load walks into a bar - Komadori Inn Devlog #8
Added 2024-03-11 19:00:54 +0000 UTCWe're on fire! π₯
Not literary, of course.
But after many months of building individual pieces of the puzzle, we put the first pieces together and finally the "game" becomes a "game".
As usual, we hoped to deliver the first real demo of "Komadori Inn" sooner, but we are taking extra time to refine elements that the entire game would not be complete without. They may be less exciting, but extremely important.
Heavy Loads
When one of our Dear Patrons, Esteban, reported to us a problem with running the Alpha version on his laptop, we (almost) immediately knew that the project would require a few changes. If you played our "Long and Hard... Summer!", you may remember that after starting the game you had to wait a while until all the game's assets were loaded. Apart from the fact that it lasted a few or a dozen seconds, the game itself was so small that it was not too much of a burden on the computers. However, compared to "LaHS", "Komadori Inn" is already much, much larger and loading everything at once proved to be too much of a challenge for some devices. That's why we had to change the game's loading system. Mugenji cataloged all existing assets according to the moment in which they are needed and introduced appropriate management of them in the project, thanks to which Komadori Inn will launch faster and will require much less system resources.
Great Saves
Another element that we have been able to cope without so far is the game saving system. Well... It's just getting coded into the project. It will probably undergo some changes (we'll see if we allow editing save filesπ), but now at least it will allow you to resume the game.
Close Connections
Although in the first moments of the game the ability to move around the world will be limited ("I don't have time to go there now!"), all the maps that have been created so far are connected to each other. After starting the game, you can see the main menu, and the whole thing starts with an intro, after which the game begins. Ah! β€
Head-Up Displays
There are new elements in the interface space, which you may have noticed earlier if you looked at the screenshots on Steam. Now you will know what day it is and whether it is morning or evening. In addition, there is also an energy bar that will limit the number of actions you take each day, as well as two other, interesting indicators, which I will talk more about at another time.

Patreon changes
We hope that more people will soon want to support us on Patreon, so we are slowly introducing changes to the rewards available at each membership level. Above all, they will make it easier for me to run our website and post additional materials more frequently.
Some of the changes are effective from today and are as follows:
- All bonus materials, WIPs, illustrations, sketches, etc. are now available in the $1 tier
- Poll voting has been moved from $5 to $1 tier
- The "Steam key after pledging $14 in total" reward has been removed from the $1 tier (keeping track of who transferred how much was too time-consuming, and at the moment all our Patrons have already received their keys anyway)
Over time, the $5 tier will also include access to the Beta versions of the game, which will be published on itch.io. There's nothing to give access to at the moment, so there's no reward either.
Thank you for staying with us. Expect more content soooooooon~
In case you've missed:
- The trailer video is here and OMG it's sooo gooood!
- Our Steam Store page is up, so go and add Komadori Inn to your Wishlist!
