Release progress of DD Editor 3.1.

Dear Patrons, as I mentioned in previous posts, the builds for 3.1. version of the app is coming soon with new features like prop hierarchy window, prop grouping, global props, audio and video props, adjustable fog of war opacity, default grid settings, easier asset browsing and editing capabilities in the editor and we try to eliminate all the bugs you submitted in a bug report or reported in a private message.

I have processed all the bug reports that have been submitted. I do not respond to them individually, please be patient until the 3.1.  comes out and if the error still occurs, I will investigate it separately.

We are currently testing 3.1. It is quite difficult to solve the compatibility of projects made and played back with various aspect ratios and resolutions, especially on high ppi monitors, which is further complicated by the application scaling used in Windows and retinal display macbooks. It needs to work perfectly in order to start publishing themed packs with which you'll be able to build your own dungeons, in the style and perspective you saw in the flesh and infernal dungeons.  We are working to make the app able to detect and manage various UI  app scalings and display the project on a different display, just as the user created it in the editor.

We are doing well and I hope that v.3.1. with an in-depth tutorial video will be released in a week or so.  We are also working on the weather and ambient editing interface, which will be introduced in 3.2. version, and the DD website is also under construction.

While the programmer finalizes the new version I'm working on some very cool and scary rewards that are coming this month.
Stay tuned, thank you for you patience and your continued support!

Few days to go. I hope it’ll solve it, since we reworked that part of the software.

Also, I know this would probably be a ton of work... but just as a feature enhancement idea, it would be cool to have a fade transition option for specific tiles in the manager. Example, if you set the night version of "rocky path" to be 'fade in', you could have a cool effect when telling your players that decide to make camp that it becomes night time. It would be a very subtle effect, but a really cool one! :D

Dynamic - is 3.1 close to being released? I am on Mac OSX and having thumbnail creation issues. I'm hoping that release will help solve it.

Michael Goodman

As someone who has spent tons of money on terrain over the years, the value of this is amazing. This is also a patreon.. a continued project in the works and a community providing improvements together. Don't expect an apology, expect collaboration. Talk with people on here if you are having trouble. Plenty of people will help and give advice if you ask for it.

Michael Goodman

Would it be possible to make a deformation of the grid in order to put some depth ?

4k projectors are very expensive. 1080p projectors are good but not as nice as 4k monitors, which have dropped a lot in price. Plus projecting colors onto the minis. Anyone have better reasons to recommend projectors?

Daniel Greenberg

The problem we had with the 'Table Topper' as we called it was because it raised the height of the viewing platform. One of our players is short so when she was sat down she couldn't see the map properly. We play at her house and it is the main dining room so building a full on table was out of the question. We borrowed a friends short throw projector to test the theory and it was amazing the difference. The main table is smokey glass so we put on a white vinyl cover on the glass that was also dry wipe friendly and now we have a perfect gaming table. If we want to quickly add some details to a Dynamic Dungeon map (dropped sword or thrown burning torch etc) we can just dry wipe it. The table is normal height for our 'Halfling' host and I get to use the topper at home for games with tall people. I prefer the projector though and it only cost us £210 (split 7 ways). Not dim at all.

Michael Taylor

Is the table height the only hesitation you have using a TV over a projector? We tried a cheap projector first just to test out whether animated maps would be a good addition to our gaming sessions, and quickly discovered how awesome they are. But the projector was very dim, so we are now using a flatscreen TV. My gaming table has a dropped playing surface, so the TV works fine there. Just wondering if there are other benefits to a good projector over a TV.

Sorry Micheal! I thought you were serious!

What is the emoticon for a Picard face palm? Apologies if you didn't get the subtle humour in my post. To clarify in case other people miss it. The software is great. The software is so great I was happy to buy and build something worthy to use it with. After building a gaming table we realised a short throw projector would be best. Our games have become quicker and far more enjoyable using this software. Anyone who can afford it I would recommend the projector over the TV unless the TV is sunk into the play area as most TVs have a thickness of 3-4 inches which can raise the table too high.

Michael Taylor

i dont think you were obbligated to buy the software and the Tv or to build a table, so dont even try to ask for an apology.

exedeb

And mine too. All money so far has been money well spent.

Michael Taylor

Here, you dropped this ;) edit: (and the system dropped my sarcasm! there was a humor tag in there somewhere)

Ty Mixon

I'm not happy. This piece of software has cost me a fortune. First I had to buy it, then I had to buy a 40" TV to use as the second display, then all the wood to build an integrated table. Now to top it off we have had to buy a projector to allow for a flatter table and easier dry wipe annotations. Now I know the software is great, and it has made our games so much better and is easy to use, and satisfies my need to tinker all the time and it does allow my wife access to the TV to watch her TV. I still think an apology is in order. Ps. V2 to V3 was a great improvement thanks.

Michael Taylor

Great news ! Thank you for this wonderful app, and the great maps that really enhance the players experience. What would be great is the possibility to make a right clic to make the props to appear / desappear. Anyway, great job !

Hi, will there be problems with the new CATALINA operating system?

As a professional coder who has to maintain and improve a medical viewer as part of my job, I have much empathy for difficulties with dealing with scaling and monitor resolutions. I will say that it back much easier when we stopped supporting Windows 7 (it has a terrible UI scaler in the OS that was never meant to go past HD monitors. I will say that I've found that I can compensate easily for scaling using increase and decrease in the viewer. Very handy! I use a 55" monitor (we're a group of 8 players, 42 was too small) and some map don't work beyond 42" without scaling. "Open map hit D twice" and it's about right. I'd not hold up the entire release trying to get it perfect everywhere, just focus on keeping any adjustment we make with the player a "permanent" adjustment for that session. One thing I would love to see, is the ability to use 3 monitors (you have send to 1 and 2) but I have a laptop, then a usb monitor to hold my notes and the large monitor for playing.

All that sounds great, and can't be simple since MS scaling is still a mess even in the latest Win 10. Future release wish list: Tool to show spell effect cones, radii, etc. Zoom and pan Single application for Editor Manager Player 3+ monitor compatibility Glad to support such an outstanding project!

Daniel Greenberg

That would be a major overhaul of the software, but zooming would be way worth it for me. Maybe while we are wishing out loud, integrate all three programs into one?

Daniel Greenberg

I don't know if you have it in this release. But, I would love to be able to zoom/scale/scroll static images inside the manager/player. Currently, my work around is to just chop up static images into smaller images (like a large city map). This would alleviate a great deal of effort to normalize this process. Love this product btw, great work!

Lamar Holtzclaw

+1 for this. I have my laptop screen, my 50inch for the map, and then a 22 inch monitor for improved Initiative.

Brad Koch

I have three monitors that I use. Since the software can only move between 2 screens, I typically have to disable one of them. Is this something that is being worked on or is this software still only optimized for 2 monitors?

Within the main version number it will be compatible. So 3.1. will open the maps made with v.3.

Dynamic Dungeons

One important issue with your upgrades. All previous upgrades were not compatible with the old maps. It would be really great if we dont have to start all over every time you make an update. Some of us make big campaigns with lots of big maps in your system. Resetting that work is not acceptable. Neither is "they still work with the old version" - I dont want to have several installations, and keeping up with which map was in which version.. - So please make 3.1 compatible with our maps made in 3.0.

Jesper

I'm still trying to figure out how to use the current one and where all of the files go lol. I would love to see an in depth tutorial especially for people that are not very computer savvy to begin with. Thanks,

Nicholas Oliver

It's in the post: " application scaling used in Windows and retinal display macbooks." :)

Ty Mixon

Cant wait for the fixes! Sounds great

Ryan Hipp

Perfect, thanks! Since the last version, my DD-Player is always crashing on my iMac. I´m really looking forward for the new release!

Remind me, does this work for Mac?

AAW Games

Thanks for letting us know you read the bug reports but don't respond individually. Lets me know the one I sent in isn't just ignored. :)

Ty Mixon

Sounds great. Is it possible to license maps to use in a board game demo, videos etc. Please contact me
