2025-10-10 22:41:07 +0000 UTCIn the manga, lightning is shown as an artistic representation of Haki! So I think that's what they were trying to represent with Luffy's attack. It was used in the manga for a long time before the anime started doing it regularly. But they started doing it later on every time Haki is used because characters start referring to it explicitly. (Possibly important to note: Black lightning represents Conquerer's Haki specifically!)
