Okay I'm probably putting my faith too much on Askeladd here but I feel like he resort to that cheap tactics of emotional manipulation to give another lesson to Thorfinn that being emotional isn't good as a warior. I think he genuinely respect Thors but at the same time loathed his "humanity" and seen it as a weakness so it's just a matter of perspective. But idk, still can't read the guy lol. Anyway I love how you girls immediately ship Thorfinn and the girl even though they just met and barely interact (though I do agree the interaction was bittersweetly heartwarming). I do feel like the girl has a vibes of a heroine though, like she would be important later. Maybe she and Thorfinn can journey together searching for Vinland :') Can't wait next episode to finally watch the Opening!

He realizes that Thorfinn has become a much more skilled fighter, but that he hasn't reigned in his emotions yet, so he eggs him on for an easy victory. Would Askelaad have won the duel without using that tactic? Probably, but it would've been a much harder duel, so he used his brain instead of his brawn. Such a fascinating character to watch!
