Episode 5

5/5...
We are amazed at how emotional this show is! It's so beautiful in every way. Thank you so much for watching (and crying) along with us! Excited to continue as always. See you soon for the next one!
-Haylo & Kiss 💕

*About the OVA* We weren't aware of it in time to watch it when it would make sense chronologically! So sorry about that. We will watch it before ending this series though. 🥰

I didn't get the "emotional support wall" comment from a few episodes ago but now I can't help notice it every time, lol. Love your reactions!

Frits__ What do you mean it's not acceptable? It totally was and often still is. I'm Polish and our most famous, beloved Queen Jadwiga was 11 when she got married to the Lithuanian Grand Prince Jogailo. He was middle-aged at the time, and he's one of our most beloved kings. Muhammad had a wife who was just 9 years old, and he's literally a prophet who attracts devotion and admiration of 2 billion people. But we don't even have to go back in time that far. To this day some US states do not have a specified minimum age of marriage with parental consent, some setting it at 12 through Common Law. Even more curiously, until the late 1880s (so fairly close to the fictional timeline of the show) Delaware had the age of consent set at 10. Yes, it was completely legal for a Delaware man to marry and sleep with a 10-year-old in 1880. In many places in India today it is completely normal to marry a child, even though the government is actively fighting this horrible practice. By UNICEF estimations in 1980 almost half (43%) of women in India were married before the age of 18. This sort of thing happened and still happens everywhere throughout the history of the world and your feelings, as noble and agreeable as they might be to us now, have no bearing on the reality of the places and times where the sense of morality was (and still is) different to ours. Because in some places and in some times in history, this was/is normal. And before you say: "It's still not ok", yeah, I agree, but if you were born in those places and in those times you'd think this is normal too. You must understand that you are simply projecting your own sense of modern morality onto people who had nothing to do with you or your sense of morality. In fact, 100 years from now people might look at you and some will judge you to be the immoral one, because sensibilities change and evolve. It's just how culture works. So yeah, this plot line is completely valid and believable despite of what you might think of it. And while we all completely understand that arranged child marriages are not (and never were) OK in real life, we can still appreciate the artistic value of a fictional work despite it portraying those themes in the context of history that is based on our own. You, on the other hand, actively choose to be performatively outraged over it, with expectations of what, exactly? Here: Congratulations, you're a westerner of the 21-st century. Good on you. Shame they don't give out medals for that.

I Actually share your same stance and I understand that you pay to be here so you can comment what ever you want but at what point do you stop yourself and just say "Maybe I won't be annoying today?" ya know? As I said you can comment what ever you want but idk whenever reactors watch something I dislike or enjoy things that I may not I just move on w my day lol just food for thought I guess

It did, but that's okay. Cannot like everything

Frits__

I understand. If you don't like it, you don't like it and you're entitled to your own opinion. I hope it does not ruin the whole show for you.

Watt

Sooo, did you guys just run to your mom afterwards and giving her the biggest hug? :D

Andrea D.

This is in fact not a historical piece. it is a completely fictional world, where the creators chose to make a world where this is acceptable. But that is not why I don't like it. It's the way it is shown as completely normal and something beautiful, which arranged child marriages are not. Not even int he medieval times or whatever. The entire plot between the princess and the prince would have been the same if she would have been older, or he would have been younger. This age thing is completely unnecessary.

Frits__

Oooh I stand corrected. Apologies. I agree with what Watt said though. I guess auto ai failed me in my comment. Should have researched more or I need to pay more attention :).

WavieDavie

While I understand what you mean, in our modern society I do agree that it would be freaking weird. But you have to think of it as a different time and age. In our own history, in medieval Europe, it was not uncommon for 12 years old girls or 15 years old boys to marry. Thinking about it now, is it disgusting? Absolutely, but back then it was kind of a normal thing. This show ain't pushing pedophilia, it's just a portrayal of a different age and mindset. This show as a lot to offer in terms of storytelling and character development, don't let this ruin it for you. If it helps, just tell yourself that they are both adults instead. But I truly get your point.

Watt

No... She's 14. She meets the prince on her 10th birthday 4 years ago

Frits__

Violet stated she thinks she’s 14 - not the princess. It didn’t state the princesses age. It’s assumed the princess is 17 or older online (Edit: I was wrong - trusted AI 👀 ). I assume Violet is older judging by her height being the same as the people she works with, so I think 14 is unlikely for her. Edit: Thanks for update Frits. I also agree with watt’s comment.

WavieDavie

Watching Haylo and Kiss react to this show is so therapeutic and refreshing. It’s so uplifting and makes me feel even better about life. Brings back the feelings I had when I originally watched the show. Thanks for reacting to this.

WavieDavie

Genuine "love" between a 14 en 24 year old 🤢 This episode kind off ruined this show for me

Frits__

This is really unexpected. I didn’t think that their best reactions would come from Violent Evergarden for me. I love the others and it’s what brought me here, but I’m realising this type of anime may be one of the best genres for Haylo and Kiss to react to. Might influence my future votes in polls :). Space Brothers my fav in the genre, but it’ll never win the poll due to how under-watched it was 🥹😁.

WavieDavie

Thank you, we forgot to add a note about the OVA. Added some info to the description!

Haylo

between episode 4 and 5, there is OVA 2018 (or Netflix call it Violet Evergarden : Special) that episode will fill the gap of Violet sudden improvement skill in letter writing.
