Honestly can't believe that. This has been such an adventure for us and the crew, and we still have the next half to get through! Really excited to see where this is going and to find out more as always. We loved seeing Cami and Pappag again! Seeing the cover story enhances this meeting and these characters so much.

2025-03-17 17:09:12 +0000 UTCThis wasn't conveyed in the subtitles at all, but the starfish's gag is cringey puns. In Japanese 'hito' (人) = person, and 'hitode' (海星) = starfish. This is actually what he was referring to when he said he 'thought he was a person'. It's just a joke because the pronunciation is really close, especially when you combine 'hito' with 'de' (a particle), 'desu' (polite sentence finisher), 'desu kedo' ('but...'), etc. His song does this a lot, and also throws in words like 'hitodenashi' (人で無し; translated here as 'brute', but could also be 'not a person' or something similar to that), and 'hitode' (人手; a homophone with 'starfish' that could mean 'human hand', or 'manpower'). Japanese has a lot of homophones and understanding is usually reliant on the context of the conversation. But the entire song is nonsense and ends up being a borderline incomprehensible cascade of 'hito', 'hitode', hito de', 'hito desu', 'hitode', 'hitodenashi', etc. Basically he's a walking dad joke that won't stop; that's why everyone completely ignored him.

It's just that the overall story telling is so good we sometimes forget that this is a show about pirates.

Earlier one piece is fantastic of course but I recall watching the anime around this time and being obsessed with AMVs and picking up the manga shortly after.
