Not a spoiler, but I'm not sure if you guys are aware that there was an original FMA anime from 2003 before this one was made. The original FMA anime explained alchemy in a lot more detail and this version assumes that most of its watchers have seen the original so it doesn't explain it as much. I won't go into any FMA:B spoilers but just a quick lesson on alchemy that this version of FMA doesn't get into: Think of alchemy as a branch of science, and as something that anyone can learn. But it requires basically a PhD in chemistry and engineering so the average person is just not gonna bother to spend their time learning it. Any alchemist will know the basics of using alchemy and can essentially work with any material to some degree. However, most alchemists will specialize in a specific material (like water, fire, or metal) because it's too much work to learn the chemical make up of every type of material. In 2003 FMA, it really showcases that Ed is famous for being a child genius, and it's because he's a master of all subjects. He's comfortable with using alchemy on any material, whereas most alchemists just stick to their specialty. That's why he was able to make a bat from a metal street pipe, make a platform from stone tiles, melt Freezer's iceberg, immediately recognize the red transmutation circle, and many more transmutations to come.

Easily one of the best animes. Years ago, I watched the dub on a whim. And every rewatch was dub. This will be fun hearing the sub this time. So far, so good! Regardless, you two will love the show & all the characters. Enjoy!

Finally watched it! Man, I forgot how fun the show is, I missed the characters, especially Roy and his lady subordinate (no name yet hehe). You girls are so perceptive, you got the details and wonder about a lot of interesting points, which hopefully be answered soon! I especially laughing at "in the show we watch we always doubt the government" lol. Really, no matter in real life or fiction, goverment always sus af lol (Also I love Carissa's hair, it's so cute!)

I find the subtitles tend to be better than the writing for the dub. I agree that the voices are iconic, but they flubbed a lot of lines imo.

its only superior due to nostalgia, to me i can never watch this in Dub. usually dub sounds so silly and over-exaggerated to try and mimic the japanese energy. I only watch dubbed stuff that i have watched when i was a kid.

Even after more than 15 years, Bones' animations are still insanely cool! I can't wait to see your reactions more! When the cast of FMA was decided, Arakawa, the author, said to the voice actress of Edward Elric: "Ed is my son, and I entrust it to you." With these words in mind, she created the character of Edward through numerous retakes. I am sure you will see the results of her efforts ;)

You think? It's pretty much the only anime episode made up instead of brought from the manga and even when it's not thaaat relevant storywise speaking, I do believe it's a pretty nice and smart introduction to some of the main characters and the plot that's ahead of us.

I would really recommend giving dub a try for a few episodes. If you don't enjoy revert back to sub. This is one of the good dubs out there. PLEASE DO TRY

I am very hyped for FMA:Brotherhood. This will be my first time to watch it subbed and I like that, cause without your reactions I might have never considered doing this. I only know the german dub, which is fantastic in my opinion. The flame alchemist Roy Mustang is spoken by one of my favourite german voice actors. I guess there are only two voice actors I like more and that's the one who speaks Luffy and one that speaks another One Piece character that you don't know yet, so I won't tell the name.

Seriously one of the best anime of all time. Im primarily a Sub watcher but the Dub is so phenomenal that it's difficult for me to even watch the sub anymore. It always feels like such a step down to me. Imo, the jokes land better, the emotion hits harder and the overall voices themselves are just so ingrained in my brain that I can't imagine them with different voices. Ah well, can't win them all I guess.
