Its more so that coming off of something heavy like AOT into JJK is just not what alot of people want right now. It would've been nice to have alittle more variety. That's all I'm saying. Popular can become overrated really quick. It's no skin off my teeth tbh, let the people have what they want. I'll just resub when something I want them to react to is on the schedule.

2024-06-26 09:07:42 +0000 UTCMy vote goes for FMA: Brotherhood but just for future recommendations the only thing that compares to AoT for me is Neon Genesis Evangelion (og, not the rebuilds). Heavily recommend if any of these points pique your interest: - Apocalyptic setting, humanity under attack by aliens or "angels" - Three teens have to pilot mecha robots while struggling with their own personal issues, very realistic in it's approach - Very psychological and complex, has a lot to say about the human mind - Great animation and fight scenes, the mechas have a lot of weight - Great score (not as good as AoT but it hits) - Short! only 26 episodes and then a movie climax (The End of Evangelion) I personally find a lot of the popular shonen animes iare fun and "hype" and all that but not very deep, I need a bit more and AoT and NGE have that perfect blend.

You can watch in the original German but the English dub is just as good. Like AoT the writing of this series is just amazing. Just when you think you know what is happening it surprises you. Each season adds another layer on the story.

It's only popular because of the character fanbase and the animation/fights alongside the recency bias of the Shibuya Arc. In what world is JJK better written than FMAB?? 90% of JJK is exposition and I say this as a big fan of JJK.

The animation is insanely good, the characters are too as well as the premise but the others have something else about them that make them better. FMAB is a completely finished masterpiece with zero plot holes and everything rounds out in the end. There's a reason its #1 on MAL for years and it's not just nostalgia. Death Note is a unique series where detective work is key and it'd be fun to watch Halo and Kiss try to break down what goes on in the series. JJK CAN be a good choice but to completely ignore the classics just because of false "nostalgia" claims is malarkey.

I can’t name examples here as it would be spoilers but the current arc in the manga is full “wtf is even happening” moments, where the author has to use the narrator box to fill in the blanks that were never detailed in the story.

I felt that way with HxH and JJK and, instead of growing to like them, I ended up actively disliking them. Trust me, if you watched 7 episodes of Frieren and you don’t like it, then you just don’t like it. I never felt bored watching it. The characters are interesting. The art is vibrant. The music is very well done. The story isn’t anything trend setting or trail blazing, but it’s told in a way that I haven’t seen before. There’s action, drama, comedy, and romance all beautifully choreographed together. Personally I felt like it had a little something to offer for everyone. But If it isn’t for you then there’s nothing wrong with that. My original comment was mainly due to frustration because shows like Vinland Saga, Frieren, Code Geass, Violet Evergarden, Monster, and Parasyte, often get placed on a back burner simply because Shonen style anime’s have more fans.

There are literally only 2 significant women characters and they're both sappy and subservient to the MC, and lack individualism. Not to mention it fails the Bechdel test spectacularly and is heavy on sexualization. If this is not something that bothers you, I'd vote for Death Note, otherwise FMAB.

The 2nd season without Hidden Inventory is only action and drama that falls flat because the characters are barely used for anything before they are killed off. When S2 was done, I just didn't care anymore.

It's possible that manga readers raised my expectations too much, cause I was told it would be the greatest season of anime since Chimera Ant, and I was also told that it would be the greatest season of anime EVER made. Like, I'm not sure how people came to these conclusions, but there was no way such expectations could have been met. I stupidly believed them and felt disappointed after the first 5 or 6 episodes. I much prefer going into a show / new season completely blind, so I can form my own opinions without any outside interference.

The second season, however, killed my interest in the series. I still plan to attempt the third season, but I've been told that I won't enjoy JJK going forward if I didn't enjoy the second season.

FMAB and Death Note are 2 FANTASTIC stories, less fighting and more story focused and both are very short and get you hooked almost instanly. Both those shows stood the test of time and remain 2 of the best anime ever 20 years later and in my opinion I experience girls tend to like them more than just pure action like JJK those are my thoughts on it

DN is finished, but, its got an acquired taste to it (which I have grown to love) that is quite darkening

It will be interesting to see your reaction to this show. It seems that Jujutsu Kaisen would win the poll. Since you liked Demon Slayer, I'm pretty sure you will like Jujutsu Kaisen too. That being said, I highly recommend to also include into your reaction shows from different genres and from different demographics. for example romcom & sport or seinen anime. All the anime you have reacted to up till now falls under Shonen category. It is the most popular category and included the most popular shows. I highly recommend you try the following titles: Kaguya-sama: Love is War (genre: comedy) Romantic Killer (genre/genres romcom) Ace of Diamond (genre: sport - baseball) Haikyuu!! (genre: sport - volleyball) Many fans of sport shows don't like sport or followup sport, but they certainly do like these shows. Also for live shows, I recommend the following kdrama: Moving (based on Webtoon) stream on Hulu (US) Disney+ (rest of the world) Kingdom (based on Webtoon) stream on Netflix 2 of my favorite live shows (not just kdrama)

Not memorable, maybe sub is the way or something but the dub was very offputting to watch. JJK is still ongoing with great fights and animation but lack in continuity and storytelling and there’s at least 4 more season that need to come out but it does get slow. 86/ not mention is a single season masterpiece about war and mechs and racial injustice… if you’re interested. It probably needs to be a 1V1 to get a clear answer. If JJK wins I’d probably leave the Patreon until Arcane season 2. I’m not an anime watcher of One Piece and JJK is fun but I don’t need to rewatch it or care for the reaction.

But storywise it's nothing close to AoT, so i don't think it's time to give them something similar but worse. Luckily, they are currently on the brighter side of shounen (One Piece), so JJK would be a better option to turn thing around imho. Not story packed like AoT, it's a new gen shounen, it's simpler, lighter, but perfectly executed.

I orignally watched it in subs, my 3rd rewatch i watched in Dub, & it was the most enjoyable experience by far.

However, I understand why you chose these 3, they are definitely must-watch animes. I voted for FMAB because it's a wonderful story and with great characters. People like JJK for the fights and hype. It isn't very thematically heavy or plot-driven in my opinion, it's more of a fun watch which is why it's so popular.

I never managed to get through it, but if you guys are gonna watch it I might just tag along. Something to consider is that Jujutsu Kaisen has not ended yet, so if you catch up now you will have to wait for the end. It might be better to start with a series that has ended for that reason. (I don't think Jujutsu Kaisen is close to ending, but I could be wrong)

It’s the best anime i have ever seen, possibly the best piece of media I’ve ever seen, and if you guys could go into it with ZERO prior knowledge I think you would have an amazing reaction to it (tears, tears forever). It would be a shorter aside, maybe you could just keep it to Patreon - it’s 12 episodes (12 perfect episodes) followed by one 2 hour movie (2 perfect hours). Then for a longer thing to react to I would recommend the cinematic playthrough of The Last of Us part 2

There's no doubt that they'll watch JJK eventually, so I almost think they should wait until after experiencing more anime. Plus, it would give them more episodes to watch back-to-back if they wait until the anime is further ahead. But I'll support whatever wins (although I might tune out after the movie if JJK wins, as I didn't enjoy Season 2).

The jump between season 1 and 2 was so jarring and the power systems just felt like last second explanations each time... And that's coming from someone who binged the show and had no gaps to forget stuff... Also gojo is the reason s2 and especially second arc felt like trash for me. Writer just kept writing themselves into a corner with that character's overpoweredness. 1 episode he's traveling across town instantly and having a chat with itadori first and banter in the middle of a jogo fight and the other he's like "but.. the treelike enemy is halfway across the forest waaa I can't make it in time waaa" and then the 0.2s thing like... Ok bruh, can the writer try to make some rules and commit to them ffs?

Right now what’s causing a lot of annoyance from the comments is a battle between newer/younger anime watchers (mostly voting jjk) and older anime watchers( mostly voting the other two) im not saying young and old is the criteria I’m just generalizing. I think if you removed either of the older anime then the vote would be very close between the two options,rather than votes being split. Just my two cents. Either way I will give jjk a chance if that is what wins and will watch it! Cheers!

I agree you don't need to watch it but Brotherhood just offers a watered down experience of the earlier arcs imo

Brotherhood is the animation of the source material, so the pacing is exactly as the author intended.

The music, animation, and connection to the characters are top notch. I do hope they watch it (and based on the poll, they definitely will), there’s no point in waiting, and if anything it’ll make them be more interested in anime.

Shonen anime is good for starters and all, but you already have Demon Slayer to cover the "light and fun shonen action" category. 86 is a real tearjerker of a story, insanely well directed and with amazing payoffs, I'm sure you girls will love it!

Brotherhood assumes the audience is already familiar with the story so it breezes trough the earlier part of the story and honestly it doesn't hold a candle to the old adaptation in terms of pacing, tone and directing.

Like Attack on Titans, you can see how things connect from the first episode to the end, so in that sense they're first-rate anime. FMA is more about philosophy and the value of life, Death Note is about morality, justice and revenge. JJK is more of a classic shonen, well written, with cool characters, but it's much more focused on animation and fighting. It definitely sets a standard for action-based anime. I think you should make your own choice based on that.

It's an amazing shonen with top notch fights that no other anime comes close to, but the story is painfully mediocre and the author HEAVILY relies on Deus Ex Machinas to make the story flow in the way he wants rather than how it should naturally flow. Not to mention the anime is easily 3-5 years until it's fully finished. Really hope you guys wait until JJK is further along before starting it. My vote is for Fullmetal Alchemist because before Attack on Titan, FMA was considered the anime with the best storyline of them all
