The amount of fillers that are worth watching is like 3 or 4 episodes at most out of the entire series. Literally a waste of time watching them since they don’t have any real affect on the plot. I’ve watched all of one piece and I can whole heartedly say that the fillers are so pointless and dumb yo. It just distracts you from the main story and timeline.

Hayley being so against Mr. 3 joining the crew 🤣

yessssss <3 getting into the lore and heart strings of alabasta arc in this episode. i absolutely cannot wait to see what you guys think of the rest!

more one piece woohooo

Isac christensen

I said there was a cool factor equivalency, not a statistical one.

Jonathan Charles

Personally (as someone watching the show for the first time) I am enjoying the fillers!

Amy

In response to the bit at the end where yall wanted to watch more, I would not complain about more OP. These reactions are so fucking wholesome and a fun way to rewatch OP. And the show will only get better and better onwards.

fatdabbyeet

Yea 100% Definitely skip the intro from 116, through the end of the Arabasta arc

Without giving specific examples, the anime often retcons itself when it veers from canon. There's actually an excellent example in this very batch of episodes (which is more of a censorship thing) that shouldn't be talked about until much later, but it's there. The anime will adjust its own "canon" to match the manga canon whenever necessary. Which is the problem with filler material in anime in general--if the anime is beholding itself to the manga as a source of truth, then all of its original inventions are prone to contradictions, and when it contradicts itself, it almost always folds to the manga's version of events. The anime isn't "meant" to be viewed in any kind of special way outside of perhaps a product being watched live a year or so after the manga release (a supplement, as you say). In fact, the very nature of anime adaptations and why filler exists in them pretty much justifies the anti-filler perspective: filler does not aspire to enhance or enrich the story in any shape or form. Filler exists solely as a necessary evil to buy time for the manga to advance. It's not an inherently artistic choice. It can be done artistically in a way that enhances the experience for the medium (march to Arlong Park, for instance, or any of Ishitani's contributions much later), but I don't think any of the Alabasta filler comes close to that standard.

As fun as it is to think about it being equivalent, English is actually quite common in Japan. English is compulsory in Japanese education, starting from grade 3. And while only 20-30% of the population is fluent, that is heavily skewed by age group. The majority of young people in Japan are at least familiar with an elementary level of English. Compare that to less than 0.5% of the US being Japanese speakers, it's not quite the same thing both ways.

Kitsune Inferno

In the manga, Ace left the group immediately after sinking the Baroque Work ships back in episode 95ish. All of his scenes in the desert from 95-101 are basically anime-only. Just on the strength of his first appearance in Alabasta alone, Ace was an instantly popular character so the anime extended his stay for a bit.

Kitsune Inferno

I think there's a huge difference between what most openings do (teasing upcoming interactions without context) and what opening 3 did. You could argue that Believe (Opening 2) should be skipped until after Little Garden because it shows the giants, but I think that's being way too spoiler-averse. If you're already not watching the openings then it's a moot point, but I would encourage people who enjoy watching them not to lose sleep over Arlong showing up for two seconds in the opening 30 episodes before he appears in the series. The only other opening I would personally consider skipping is one you didn't even mention: the alternate version of opening 20. That one and maaaaybe the most recent opening.

Kitsune Inferno

Shit's getting real when Luffy's like Point me to the bad guy, I want to pummel him! He's dense af most of the time but his emotional intelligence is sometimes just off the charts!

^^^ This!

Merfhew

There's a great Chopper focused filler episode after Alabasta that I hope they'll watch. I can't say more than that, though.

Merfhew

When u already love OP at this point,,wow! Sooo much more love down the line

Regie Khemvisay

Just a reminder on episodes 116-130, please skip directly to 1:55, don’t use the the “skip intro” button, it does not completely skip the intro and can spoil you. Watch the new intro on episode 131.

Mister Kap

hopefully they don't skip G8 but the rest of the filler I'm fine with jumping over

Nervous

Why? Some of the fillers are good. I definitely wouldn't recommend watching everything, but One Piece has some good filler (like G8).

Merfhew

I’m so glad y’all aren’t doing fillers! 🫶🏻

Hasan Hejazi

Not sure if you're skipping openings entirely or not, and someone has probably already mentioned it, but there is a huge spoiler in the opening starting at episode 116 so be careful to not watch it until episode 131 in general there are a fair bit of spoilers in openings throughout the series, but some of the openings are great. there's a nice little reddit thread that lists which openings can be watched at what point in case you do want to watch them at some point. I'll paste their list below (was going to link to it but comments there are full of spoilers too and didn't want to risk it) Opening 1: Starts Episode 1 (Safe to watch at episode 30) Ends Episode 47 Opening 2: Starts Episode 48 (Safe to watch) Ends Episode 115 Opening 3: Starts Episode 116 (Safe to watch at episode 131) Ends Episode 168 Opening 4: Starts Episode 169 (Safe to watch) Ends Episode 206 Opening 5: Starts Episode 207 (Safe to watch at episode 237) Ends Episode 263 Opening 6: Starts Episode 264 (Safe to watch at episode 291) Ends Episode 278 Opening 7: Starts Episode 279 (Safe to watch) Ends Episode 283 Opening 8: Starts Episode 284 (Safe to watch) Ends Episode 325 Opening 9: Starts Episode 326 (Safe to watch at episode 339) Ends Episode 372 Opening 10: Starts Episode 373 (Safe to watch) Ends Episode 394 Opening 11: Starts Episode 395 (Safe to watch at episode 423) Ends Episode 425 Opening 12: Starts Episode 426 (Safe to watch at episode 467) Ends Episode 458 Opening 13: Starts Episode 459 (Safe to watch at episode 465) Ends Episode 492 Opening 14: Starts Episode 493 (Safe to watch at episode 495) Ends Episode 516 Opening 15: Starts Episode 517 (Safe to watch at episode 532) Ends Episode 590 Opening 16: Starts Episode 591 (Safe to watch at episode 600) Ends Episode 628 Opening 17: Starts Episode 629 (Safe to watch at episode 644 BUT STOP WATCHING AT 662) Alternate version is released and is not safe to watch again until 674) Ends Episode 686 Opening 18: Starts Episode 687 (Safe to watch at episode 703) Ends Episode 746 Opening 19: Starts Episode 747 (Safe to watch at episode 765) Ends Episode 806 Opening 20: Starts Episode 807 (Safe to watch at episode 817) Ends Episode 855 Opening 21: Starts Episode 856 (Safe to watch at episode 872) (Correct me if I'm wrong but I know this opening changes a couple of times, but I THINK the changes are scenes of things we've already seen) Ends Episode 891 Opening 22: Starts Episode 892 (I haven't seen this one yet because I like to let the episodes build up before I watch them, but I hear this one is bad for spoilers)

It's almost like episodes of the anime are only filler when labeled 'SE' -- cause, you know, that's actually the case.

E. H.

For what it's worth, I believe filler means something different when you are anime-only. Not with all shows, just One Piece the animated series. Since the entire anime is expressly supplemental, technically... all of it is non-canon filler. Episodes marked SE for special episode are what I - and the production - consider filler. Some people try to match the anime 1:1 with the manga and this is not how the show was meant to be viewed. I can understand folding to pressure from people who seem certain, yet many of those people will also mistakenly claim this series is an adaptation.

E. H.

They will soon after Attackbon Titan is over. Which is two weeks.

I wish they did 3 releases each week....

luffy literally trying to speed run his way to the top, I think ace was the influence for this

Thank you for including a bit of 101. Probably more effort than it was worth.

There's a funny culture swap that the West has with Japan, and a lot of us don't even know it. We think it's cool to have clothing or artwork with Japanese characters on it, but we can't read it or understand what it means most of the time. It doesn't matter though, right? It's just cool. Japan thinks English is cool in the same way. They have branded products like clothing and greetings cards and things with English words, and a lot of it is non-sensical jibberish to us. When characters in anime speak English (that aren't loan words, of which there are many), it's to make them sound cool or sophisticated to Japanese viewers. I just think it's really funny to think about Japanese people seeing us with their words on our clothes, and wonder if they just see nonsense sentences like we do with theirs.

Jonathan Charles

Hello Ladies!!!!

CacoMetal

Throughout the show you'll realize Oda really likes puns and wordplay. when Mr. 2 says "Oh come my way" it also sounds like okama way, okama in japanese meaning gay or trans.

aydin sofian

Losing ace in a filler episode is so disrespectful
