2024-06-09 18:14:21 +0000 UTCI felt like Kagaya getting Tanjiro to help Giyu was like he was preparing him to take care of his family when he dies. Like he thinks Tanjiro would do anything to protect family like he did for Nezuko, so Tanjiro is being entrusted to lead them when Kagaya dies.

I don't think it was said explicitly, but it certainly didn't imply that they all died during the same selection year, necessarily. I'd need to go back and rewatch that episode to see what you mean.
