what hit me the hardest was the fact that gabi and falco are basically the only truly blameless cogs in this war machine yet where the ones who owned up to their part to play in it all, it just hit me right in the feels

He did this in order to trick Yelena into thinking he was on their side. On the roof, after they were freed he said "even if we don't agree with the yeagerists, we need to help Eren", which revealed to her that he was lying about agreeing with the euthanization plan. That's why she made this disgusted face.

Falco also spent a lot of time with both Eren and Reiner, experiencing their conversation in ep5. But you're not wrong either, Falco is less hotheaded and aggressive than Gabi by nature.

Haylo, I completely agree that not just the music, but the selection and placement of it, is masterful and adds so much value and emotion to the experience of watching. The opening sequence with the "Fall of Paradis" OST including Reiner's lines about suffering hit so hard and really set the tone for the entire episode. Somber, heavy, and slightly hopeful, all great words you both used to describe this. It was a pleasure to hear the discussion about Gabi's growth as a character. Especially Kiss, you've come a long way since "THROW THIS CHILD OUT" right after Gabi killed Sasha (kidding, I totally get that reaction regardless if you meant those words or not hahaha xD). Props to noticing the bird cage symbolism and also pointing out the differences between Falco and Gabi playing into the nature vs. nurture theme; I think one of the many reasons this show is so heavy is because it's so realistic with human psychology. Despite essentially coming from the same environment, it makes total sense that Gabi and Falco would start out so different based on many factors like desire for praise, personality, etc. Also, the reaction to the Yelena face was priceless hahaaha. I think you guys figured out the exact reason for it in the post-episode discussion; she realized Armin "crying" upon learning the Euthanasia Plan was an act when overhearing his words to the others of how they've got no choice but to help Zeke and the Jaegerists now.

I used to just watch most shows on my TV, but I bought a decent pair of headphones and the difference is amazing; it really brings out the emotions in this show, and Hiroyuki Sawano done a fantastic job with composition. At times it's hopeful, at times it's beautiful but no matter what it always hits the right tone for whatever part of the show you're on.
