Even though I'm supposed to hate Yabushige, he's indirectly responsible for Mariko's death, his actor Tadanobu Asano does too good of a job portraying this bumbling dick dastardly-esque character that I end up still liking him despite him being unlikable. What I can hate however is Ishido, Mariko was dead the second she spoke up the way she did, just needed it to be on terms beyond her own that didn't implicate him. That moment he throws the permit to her, you can tell he timed it to make her suffer before the assassination, since he knew how much she wanted to end her own life. Powerful episode. Toranaga's reason for sending Mariko to Osaka is becoming all too clear and why he said about her playing her "part" not long after Hiromatsu played his. She's finally free now

2024-05-07 10:43:09 +0000 UTCI think the idea is that since Mariko forced Ishido's hand to let them go, Ishido tried to out smart her and send ninjas to kidnap her so he isn't to blame for it and she isn't killed. But with Mariko sacrificing herself she put Ishido in a really bad position because now he is seen as unable to protect the people in the castle, since Mariko was so easily killed by Ninjas. Mariko's death basically screwed Ishido big time
