"Declaration Of War"

We got a few messages from some of you letting us know that these next 3 eps would make a good triple upload. We're just not able to swing that editing this time guys and gals, so sorry! We hope you still know that we love and appreciate you all! This ep though...another massive info dump leaves our heads spinningggg, nervous to see where this goes tbh. Thanks for watching! Until the next one!

So like get this right!? This is my favorite show on the planet(dont care what anyone thinks) the reason its my favorite show is because of the message(s) behind it. There is no such thing as good and evil, everyone has a story and everyone is doing what THEY think is the right. Now my personal beliefs align with that, there is no such thing as a bad person only bad choices(which is highly subjective, cause whats bad for you may be good for me or someone else) Tyburs probably made a choice that would have been good for the rest of the world but bad for eldia. Tyburs probably detached from eldia because of all the blood shed they witnessed over the millennia. Luckily for us, we dont get to see the cruel and possibly inhumanities of eldia so its easy for us to say MARLEY - BAD(unless isayama chooses to write a prequel)😅 Do you get what i mean tho? Sorry for the long text

Reginald

Oh goodness! You pro-revenge?

Reginald

Hey hey, stop hating on OP

Regie Khemvisay

But continuing the cycle of hatred is worse. The Tybur’s family could’ve done something different and treated their own ppl as humans but no, that’s why we have AOT

Regie Khemvisay

Yeah as he should

Regie Khemvisay

Same May, same. People like Falco and Armin should’ve been the ones to lead. They hate on Eren for attacking killing civilians that it overshadowed Tybur letting all those ppl to die just as he planned. Reiner could’ve been like Falco, but here we are. It’s like 3 seasons of justifying Eren;s action at this point was overshadowed by few episodes in Marley. I’m not saying him killing all those ppl by answering Tybur’s declaration of war is good, but the course of action is the result of Marley’s decisions. Im surprised at the shallowness of understanding of Eren character development here as if we just didn’t watch him and Paradis go through all that hatred and despair

Regie Khemvisay

The Calm: The episode

Isac christensen

Eren didn't do the same thing genius lol, Reiner and co. attacked a peaceful nation and continued to attack ppl who were completely ignorant about the conflict. Eren attacked a racist nation that attacked Eldia first when Eldia made a vow for peace and lived peacefully for 100 years. Those two things aren't the same, and the fact that I have to explain something so simple to you is baffling.

MAY

Even if I take my own moral code out of it, the author is clearly saying what Reiner did is wrong because he protrays Reiner as suicidal and feeling immense guilt about what he did. It's a little thing called reading comprehension, and I hope you learn it someday.

MAY

Being brainwashed doesn't exempt you from dojng terrible things. I dont blame them for kicking in the wall in the first attack, because they didn't know better. But after awhile they learned the ppl on Paradise weren't devils and they still chose to slaughter them, so their brainwashing was undone when they spent 5 YEARS with ppl on Paradis. Take Falco for instance, he has the same brainwashing as Gabi and makes an effort to not randomly kill every Eldian in his way unloke Gabi, so you're still responisble for your actions, brainwashing or not.

MAY

I believe that when Eren had said,”Like I thought, I’m the same as you.” “I keep moving forward. Until I destroy my enemies” he means that he is like Reiner in the way that Reiner kept pushing forward on his mission when he was there to destroy the people of paradise and like Reiner, Eren will push forward here and continue the mission until his enemies are destroyed. Bert had even said back on paradise in the episode Descent, Bert had told Armin, during their face off on the roof before mikasa shows up, that he still views them all as “precious comrades” but that they still needed to die. Another example of you’re my friend but you’re also still my enemy 😭 truly heartbreaking to be put at odds with one another when in another reality they would all be amazing friends. War sucks â˜č

CainetheLongshot

Girls, they are the same. Reiner knew people in Paradise were good people (at least after the first assault) and still continued pursuing his goal. Eren’s the same

killezio3 killezio3

Oops sorry I'm notorious around every edited AoT post to have at least 1 wall of text there because of my ADHD. So I tend to sometimes connect weird dots that I missed the first time around . But thank you for the compliment haha sorry I made you read me XD

Cyber

Beautifully put, my thoughts exactly except I wouldn’t have typed all that. Thats amazing attention to detail sir.

Gin-liberio

It’s easy for you to say when you don’t put yourself in their shoes. You judge based on what you deem as right and wrong because you’re ill equipped to see the world from a birds eye view.

Gin-liberio

No offense but that’s asinine and 1 dimensional thinking. Not only are they brainwashed as kids and programmed heavily to keep moving forward with the plan but their biggest motivation is their families in the interment Zones. Eren did the same thing and understood why they did it, it’s not a question of right or wrong. It’s a question of diplomacy and preparation for what people fear might happen. Humans want to throw titans first and find diplomatic solutions later.

Gin-liberio

Reiner could have worked to change the system. He could have given info to Paradis and worked with them to fight back against Marley. If they succeeded, there would be no more titan warriors coming to attack the island. Fighting against the system is always an option

MAY

Yes, he was being threatened by Marley, but he was undercover in an enemy nation that hates Marley. Reiner could've talked to Erwin and met with the higher ups and gave them all the information he knows and they could have worked together to save his family in exchange. That was always an option but he never entertained it in the slightest

MAY

bro really said underrated for one of the highest rated episodes in the show and all of television. 9.9 rated before the one piss fans ruined it

Sean Carroll

13:11: "this show is the definition of 'never let them know your next move'" Commander Erwin: The Show 😭💀

Hans

You guys aren’t ready for the next episode!!đŸ„¶ (Ik u guys already watched it😉)

T4LHA

Reiner didn't have to partake in the system but he chose to push it forward.

vaughn

So long as they watch the episodes in one sitting (if possible), I don't think they need to worry about dropping all 3 on the same day. It's a lot of editing. Of course, if they can deliver a triple, I wouldn't be opposed, but I'd hate for them to feel overwhelmed or rushed by people asking them to give extra reactions. Those of us who watched these episodes week to week managed to enjoy the show, so I don't think it's an issue if they stick to single drops. That's just my opinion, though.

Merfhew

I personally think it's more enjoyable if they pace themselves, but I can understand your desire to see them react to hype moments sooner.

Merfhew

I really loved kisses karate moves when the to be continued popped up

Miguel Gonzalez

If you don’t already, it’s probably a good idea to keep the tissues on hand for the rest of the show here on out.

Christopher Andersen

@haylee @kiss PS: Good catch on the "Because I was born in this world" line being repeated. You're not mistaken, you DID hear this line before. You heard it when Eren almost hit mikasa and was trapped in his dream before armin snapped him out, and armin asked him "WHY? WHY do you want to go outside the walls? Why do you want to be free?" And eren snapped and said "BECAUSE I WAS BORN IN THIS WORLD". And if you remember, when the scouts went and talked to the Ex Commander Shadis (the one who trained the 104th regiment and loved Eren's mom Carla and was sad about him not being special). What did Carla say to him? "I dont care if eren's not exceptional or special, he'll always be Eren and I'll always love him, BECAUSE HE WAS BORN IN THIS WORLD." Now juxtapose this line, with what Eren was asknig reiner in the basement here : He was asking him : WHY, why did you kill my mom? And reiner was apologizing, and Eren was listening to the entire speech by Will Tybur right? But pay attention to the facial expressions. The ENTIRE time that Eren was sitting there, menacingly, he didn't turn into the Attack Titan and start a war, he sat there, listening to the speech and listening to Reiner's apology... And he even tried to rationalize what Reiner was confessing to, but then his entire facial expressions and even his body movements changed when Tyber said "BECAUSE I WAS BORN IN THIS WORLD". And suddenly Eren started having a tone shift with reiner about how this is all inevitable, it's all the same, we're all the same... I'm here in this city the same way u were here in my city.... Because that line REAAAALLLYY dug deep into him like claw marks at his heart and memories of his mother who he was JUST talking about... But notice something interesting: Eren was still walking Reiner through his mental process there. If he wanted to turn to the Attack Titan and kill the people above him in the building (Which he did anyway) , he could have easily done that to reiner earlier the second he walked in.. he took the risk on letting reiner speak and listen to him, and he ONLY turned to the attack titan and destroyed the platform above him and kicked off this ending scene ONLY when Tyber MADE HIS DECLARATION OF WAR. It's almost like Eren's just been chilling here, listening, and hoping that it doesnt come down to it, that he doesnt have to do what he needs to do... But he's long accepted it, he accepted the casualties above him, he even is stating this in a ridiculously cold and rational "factual" tone as opposed to the Hot headed eren that we knew as a child... He was calculated and while he didn't strike the first blow prematurely, he waited to see what would happen but he was ready for either outcome (by talking to reiner and showing him that we're the same,,, but by also waiting to see if he still has enemies to fight..)..and only struck the second that THEY announced their declaration of war... He then found new enemies to fight... Aka he realized that his worries were true and that he did indeed have even "More enemies across the sea." And that "if he kills all those enemies across the sea... Will he finally be free?" (Because he was born in this world?) --- THEY said they wanted a war with Eren Yaeger. And Eren said: "BET."

Cyber

Oh and, something tells me this wont be the last time we say this line... this show is like a rollercoster of emotions and a wrecking ball of "keep going forward."

Cyber

"What are we doing right now? What are we doing?" Bold of you to assume that there's a WE here lol. WE are just in shock and playing the Bingo game of "what do we know so far and what do we predict in this show" Right? Yeah, i thought so too at first, a long time ago, but while we're sitting here playing our bingo cards, the writer Isayama is playing 4D chess with bowling balls and throwing those history books at us like they're goddamn particle accelerator atoms waiting to collide and implode lol. "Never let them know your next move." Exactly. And this applies to the eldians, the scouts, eren, the marleyans, the tyburs, the warriors, and Isayama himself LOL... Do you know how many times we said "NOW the show actually starts?" and how the show took major tone shifts every single time we said that after certain episodes? Welllll... u know... NOW the show actually starts i guess :P

Cyber

Things are about to get so cool, y'all

fr0st

Dont you get it? Its the system. If reiner failed, another batch of titan users will. Cause its in the system, they are just being used by the system

markus

That moment when Willy said about not wanting to die, because he was born into this world, we can see a little hope in Eren's eyes that maybe he won't need to do it. Maybe there is another way...

Onomatopeja

its crazy to think how eren is able to control his healing for his leg until he gets rid of his facade

Bagels

yeah yall aren’t ready for eren this season LMAO

mal

*spoilers** yeah true, same with eren

210saphire

how can he switch sides when his family in danger from marley?? His mother wasn’t going to listen to him either she hates paradise eldians u saw what happened to grisha and the others with him when he tried to save eldia, tbh the warriors i don’t feel sympathetic towards them is annie, maybe peick too

Zain kb

strap in because now it gets nonstop intense

j m

"But if he didn't someone else would have" that doesn't matter, Reiner still needs to be held personally accountable like anyone else. Reiner had 5 years to see that Eldians weren't devils and potentially switch sides, but he never did. I really don't like when ppl try to make excuses for Reiner, the things he does and continues to do are atrocious and he knows it, that's why he's suicidal - he can't live with the guilt and rightdully so. Reiner is really well-written but let's not make excuses for a mass murderer that specifically targeted a peaceful nation. I feel the same about Bertholdt and Annie

MAY

Nah, Willy has all the intel and knows he can talk to the ppl on Paradis for some type of peace treaty. The rumbling is potentially a threat, but literally no one threatened it and Willy decided to attack anyway when he didn't have to. So he either has some hate toward eldians or he just wants power like the other Eldians who betrayed King Fritz and caused the titan war

MAY

reiner : i want to die Willy : i want to be alive Eren : uno reverse card

Zain kb

no triple upload damn :(

Adam Aucoin

Eren wants nothing more than for his people to be safe and free!

NomadCisco

Didnt stop them from letting marley send warriors to retrieve the founding titan. Then using those powers to oppress the world. The tyburs can suck it

C

Time for a double and triple upload.

Alex Ucles

Also during the episode bystander Erens mom said this about him being born into this to keith.

Binky

and also coz they scared of Paradis as theyve learned the truth. and bcoz of their attack everything is trickling in

Regie Khemvisay

The Tyburs are okay with attacking Paradis because they feel its the only way for the Eldian left on Marley and in other parts of the world to find freedom/redemption for their ancestor's atrocities. And to prevent the world from potentially being ravaged by the millions of Titans in the walls who are no longer being held back by a pacifist king/ideology. They are also a bit of a play on the real world self-hating minority who tears down others of their own race in order to try and fit in with the majority. It's what they did in the past with their pact/deception with King Fritz and it's what they are doing now with their revelation of the truth to Marley and the rest of the world. Also, remember they are in the Internment Zone right now...so its full of Eldians. Eren was not lying or putting on a front about what he said to Reiner.

D

I love how Tyber describes the way that Eren could destroy the world as "A Rumbling" which sounds almost juvenile. Tens of millions of titans trampling hundreds and thousands of people and the best you can come up with is the rumbling?

Spinning Red Chair

"I get you, bro. now die."

draeonic đŸȘŒ

hahahaha didn't know that

Mojira

LMAO didnt knew about that

Costosou

For sure!

Costosou

This episode when it came out caused some controversy because the #1 hashtag on Twitter was #DeclarationOfWar and people who were not watching Attack on Titan at the time thought the United States just declared war on someone or vice versa

Spinning Red Chair

Haha agreed :)

Russell Gambardella

This episode broke the internet when it came out. #DeclarationOfWar was trending on Twitter which predictably caused a lot of panic lol.

Spencer Wattamaniuk

If I were able to choose for them, i would choose not reading the comment section (at least if is not under moderation) until the end of the show hahahahah I know people hasn't bad intentions but sometimes there are people trying to do his best in the comment section and with the "euphoria" of the moment they drop little spoilers xD

Costosou

Erens 6’1 in s4 đŸ«ą

Anthony Orozco

Loved the reaction and thoughts on this masterpiece of an episode! I'm definitely glad you're delaying reading comments as people can't help themselves by instantly trying to provide answers to questions you pose aloud during your reaction, specifically when there's more context to be digested and processed in future episodes, such as pertaining to complex characters like Willy Tybur. As always, looking forward to the next reaction!! <3

Russell Gambardella

You keep hearing that phase because it’s eren ideals. In season 1 episode 12 he said “because I was born into this world” and in the next episode he said “from the moment we’re born, we’re free. It doesn’t matter how strong the enemy is, fight!” Now the enemy is the world and they’re trying to take his right to live. It’s a direct contrasts to the king ideals who think that they should just die. I’m glad you remember the phrase it’s an important theme in Aot.

Ibrahim

In my opinion, I don't think it's that the Tyburs "hate" Eldia. Willy just revealed that King Fritz's threat of the "tens of millions of Colossal Titans in the walls" decimating the rest of humanity was a bluff, seemingly confirmed by the mission of Reiner et al. But now they know that Eren has the Founding Titan and also no royal blood (so, not bound by Fritz's desire for peace), what was once a bluff is now a real threat. So he's arguing that now is the time to get rid of Eldia before Eren becomes a problem. "If it's not them, it's us" type of deal. Hope that clears things up!

Jonathan Charles

this show is the most important series of our timeline, ESPEICALLY with whats going on in the world.

Reggie Azem

Its ok, editing is boring yet tremendous task. Still I am gonna be on strike for 6 and 7, I might end strike on 4x8

PKS

Remember, when Keith told Eren about how his father met Carla, and the conversation Keith had with Carla about being special. And Carla said that it’s okay if Eren isn’t special, because he’s special to her since he was born in this world. That’s something that really touched Eren at the core and pushed him forward to continue.

Francisco Yang

Eren highkey said “feels bad man. im still gonna delete you tho”

Reginald

definitely in my top 5 episodes of the entire show. i remember binge watching all of aot within like 2/3 days and that i had an appointment right after this ep. the wait to get back home and continue felt like actual torture lmao

ningsplushie

Lmaooooooo

Reginald

This show lines up with WWII alot soo 😅

Reginald

Guys the tyburs hate eldians because eldia really did do awful things. They really did end civilizations(practically cultural extinction of course not real extinction cause that would involve the entire human race but for example Atlantians are extinct i think)

Reginald

Dw about these three but 19,20, and 21 is the triple upload most people care about

waughrus

What shirt is that

Reginald

Also yes, eren was trying to eat willy

Reginald

The fact that Eren puts into words what the show has been showing, that him and Reiner are two sides of the same coin. The entire dialog, paired with Willy's speech, is a masterpiece. Great reaction as always, i love how fascinated you continue to be, even when you predict something correctly and specially when you do not. Also please, some praise for the amazing shirt Kiss is wearing, ahah xD A warm hug from Portugal ^^

Eric Dean Draven

The tyburs hate eldians because what they say about the eldians past is true they did like terrorise the world and sodomised the races that couldn’t transform in to titans so even though that hadn’t happened in 100 years everyone still remembers and thinks being able to turn in to a titan is just like an abomination that shouldn’t exist (tyburs think like this) that’s why the eldians outside of paradis keep doing everything Marley says because they want to prove they are good people, good eldians that won’t destroy the world so they can leave the intermittent zones.

Pioka

One of my favourites too. I can't believe how they manage to make an episode (which is 99,9 % dialouge) so intriguing. The writing is otherworldly.

Harresta

Idk if you guys remember or not but what Willy Tybur is describing King Fritz’s will. Do you guys remmeber how every time a royal blood gets ahold of the coordinate titan they get new sharp blue eyes. Almost like they are possessed. Remember how rod riess tried to plead with his dad about killing the titans keeping them inside the walls but his dad was like naw. Then uri(rod’s brother) and frieda(rod’s daughter) both experienced the same phenomenon. That’s what willy is talking about however nobody else in the world knew thats what it was and the only reason will knows its cause titans can share memories and the warhammer titan is inside willy’s family(the tybur family)

Reginald

No chance of you two bumping it up to two episodes per release?😇 I get like you once the episode ends where I want more. 😂

Professor00

I do remember when this episode dropped back in 2021 and #DeclarationOfWar was trending on twitter... people where losing their minds thinking WW3 was happening

Harresta

What do mean underrated? It is literally the third highest rated episode on imdb? No one is underrating this episode

misala

It's okay girls if you wont be able to clung those three godly eps at once. Dont worry about it.

CrazyKonty

Eren said “Yes yes very sad ANYWAY âšĄïžâ€

Josey

So many people have this as one of their favorite episodes absolutely not underrated, perfectly rated đŸ’Żâ€Œïž

pg.0314

When I was reading the chapters I told myself “no way aot get better than this” man I was wrong reading wfp arc. That’s when Aot became my favorite. Internet was crazy when those chapters came out

Ibrahim

not underrated at all tbh

Proximity94

Top 5 aot episodes for me. You can really see how much eren and his perspective changed after crossing the sea. You can see the maturity and character growth. Reiner breaking down was just a good scene too. Aot my favorite cuz it can make a good scene happen with just dialogue. When I read the chapter I had chills

Ibrahim

One of the most underrated episodes in the entire show. The tension is off the roof
