The filming of this episode was so incredible! It felt so raw and almost invasive? Very real! We really feel for all of these characters... they are each dealing with their grief in their own way. The Bent Neck Lady is a tragic character now 😢 Can't wait to see where this is going!

Even when she's dead and they're together, they focus on their petty squabbles and she literally has to do all this stuff to make them listen and stop. Poor Nellie, you deserved the world :(

2024-03-02 03:35:35 +0000 UTCYeah, even when he doesn't hit his highs he usually puts out enjoyable horror work, has done some decent horror film work though I feel he's more suited to limited series. Mass was a return to form imo, people have made great cases for why they think it's better than HH, regardless they're Flanagan at his best. Here's hoping his next work continues a great trend, I've heard it's a Sci-Fi film based on a Stephen King novella and starring Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill, should be interesting.

I really liked Midnight Mass, not so much The Midnight Club. I really liked The House of Usher too, so I'm hoping to be nicely surprised by his next work. I've enjoyed everything he's done though, I deffo rate the chap's work.

I've been a big fan of single-shot takes ever since I watched that opening shot of Serenity in the cinema years ago, every time I watch this series and get to this ep I love how it's all one shot when their Dad walks in and the actors switch out and then back again with no visible cuts. Fantastic part of an absolutely great series.

2024-03-01 23:33:43 +0000 UTCThis episode is rightly lauded for its cinematography -- from the first moment of the episode until Hugh walks down the hallway and ends up in Hill House - the chandelier crashing to the floor - there are no cuts. Everything up until then was one take, and when we return to the funeral home there are more long takes. There are only five shots in the entire episode.

The camera despite giving you moving perspective still remains focused on the important parts of the scene, allowing the actors to really make use of the space. Everything feels alive and in motion, it feels realistic instead of being a static window, that we're actively in the scene too. This is also an episode that has so many blink and you'll miss it horrors lurking in the shadows that it almost feels a disservice to watch it once. One of if not the best episode across all of Mike Flanagan's tv works Also I had a good chuckle watching you two spend most of this episode leaning left, right up and forward trying to soak in everything and make sense of what you're seeing.
