It serves as a great end goal for one of the characters and a taste of the trials and adversity the crew will have to endure down the road. Also love the fact that you two noticed the Wado Ichimonji (Kunia's blade) was the only one that didn't break, almost symbolic in nature of the will of Kuina and Zoro's resolve remaining even though he's been soundly beaten. The strength to be the greatest swordsman is stronger than ever before.

Mihawk's boat is shaped like a coffin, and his sword is in the shape of a cross. Imagine being out on the sea and you see a cross floating across the water in the distance lol. Just saying ima be paddling the other way ๐ Seems you remembered a bit of that from a comment! Nice!
