17 "Anger Explosion
18 "You're The Weird Creature"

This show leaves nothing to beat tired.
Thanks for coming along with us on this adventure! Usopp is a GEM. So are the whole crew, and even the "almost" crew. Loving all the character development that's achieved in such a short amount of time. It really speaks volumes to the talent of the author.

Thanks for all of your love and support here on Patreon. Until the next one!

Really enjoy these reactions

Gaimon has had me wondering for decades now. Is the one Piece the same as his treasure?

"a cockadoodle" had me dyin

Take his side bread brother

Loving these! Luffy has such a good heart, he was fully going to lie and maybe even pretend to steal the treasure so that his new friend wouldn't feel bad about wasting twenty years of his life on this island in pursuit of that treasure that doesn't exist.

I would never spoil anything for them! They are too cute with their genuine reactions so it would spoil it for me too. 😜

Lucia Petrozzi

I would caution against factoids like this until they reach the point in the story when they become relevant. I know this one doesn't really go anywhere, esp in the anime, but just naming and explaining a cover story and can reveal hints and context to the structure of the story that I think we should be extra careful not to spoil.

Kitsune Inferno

Yeah, this is indeed the Island of Rare Animals, and I might be wrong, but I don't even think it's referenced as such in the manga. I don't think it's until the databooks came out we knew about the Island of Rare Animals name, or many of the early island names (like Syrup Village and Gecko Islands for Usopp's village and the island chain its on) -- the live action used the databooks as reference and used those names a lot more than the anime did.

Kitsune Inferno

Fully enjoying you two commit to this series. Whether it's up until arlong park or beyond I'm all for seeing your reactions. I hope you enjoy the series as much as the rest of us have. Also Merry's death and the Kaya kiss were some bold changes in the live action but as one piece fan who's caught up with the manga I still enjoy different medias like that.

Jose Rodriguez

The first 2 (Buggy's Adventure Chronicles & Diary of Koby-Meppo) are actually adapted by the anime, though tbf, yes, the Koby-Meppo one that the Live Action was inspired by takes place somewhere Episode 60-ish, so a wee bit after Arlong Park. It's only starting from the 3rd one that they aren't (and that one wouldn't be relevant for another 100 eps anyway lol)

klairvoyance

It is not as apparent for the first two/three hundred episodes, but this show is really a mystery first at its core. Every week, when a new chapters drop, it is just a buncha lunatics trying to put together the pieces lmao, so in case y'all ever decide to continue this ride, it would be a blast to have you guys join the circle of deranged theorycrafters lol (especially considering y'alls AoT discussions)

klairvoyance

This is from “From the Decks of the World cover story”, which is a cover story to the manga which spans a few chapters and shows different characters which we met in the past and gives updates on a few of them (together with other bits that I won’t tell you not to spoil things for you): Eventually, Gaimon finds a long-term companion in Sarfunkel, a woman similarly trapped inside a barrel. During the two years after Gaimon met the Straw Hat Pirates, Sarfunkel came to the Island of Rare Animals and befriended him. To date, the pair have continued living happily together on the Island of Rare Animals.

Lucia Petrozzi

Only in the beginning. They stopped to adapt them at some point

Snowman9712

We can start to compare a bit more!

Haylo

That was an interesting line!! I'm sure we'll come back to that too when we start theory crafting in the future.

Haylo

It's a turtlecow, because of course it is. xD That was in fact the island of rare animals. cool that you remembered that ^^

LoofBall

The important cover stories are adapted in the anime, I think it's fine not to overcomplicate things.

Flubbedsquid

I forgot how emotional the Usopp pirates farewell was, honestly a portion that I think the live action should really have tried to keep in tact because it's the emotional heart of this arc imo. On that note I also really hope you guys continue with the anime when you get to where the live action ended. Seeing how much you two have been enjoying the original series so far makes me think it'd be such a shame for you guys to halt it after Arlong, plus I know you're dying to see where the story goes next. Also the live action is a great adaptation but the story in the anime is just something else. Time for the Baratie arc now and the ultimate blonde haired ladies man who probably has a few restraining orders to make his entrance, oh and he's also a pretty good chef I guess.

Amen

traxxas

Thanks for the upload : ) Jesus Christ loves you <3

LilShepherdBoy

I think Island of Rare Animals was the name of the island referenced in the manga, if not the anime.

Kai Raine

Question 2: in the manga there are cover stories which cover events that arent always in the manga. From what i remember something relevant is : Coby and Helmeppo story. Would you be interested if people link it here? (Part is covered in the live action)

Emma

Question 1: i would also be interested in both your thoughts comparing the anime and life action. Is that something you might be interested in? (I havent watched the unedited long version , so do tell if you talk about it there.

Emma

Nice catch, hadn't put those two together before.

Jonathan Charles

And also Aesop, the Greek Storyteller. In fact The Boy Who Cried Wolf is one of his fables.

There are some pretty wild theories in the fandom about Gaimon and the nature of the One Piece. Mostly stemming from the line "buy the world". There are also theories that claimed the One Piece wouldn't exist based on the fact that these boxes were empty. However that theory has been disproven because in a q&a from the comic Oda confirmed that the One Piece is a physical/tangible thing, and not something abstract like "the friends we made along the way". I'd recommend not looking up any theories just yet though because of spoilers.

If you didn't catch it, Usopp gets his name from the Japanese word for "liar" - Usotsuki. I learned so much Japanese from anime, it's fun to spot the patterns and recurring words. Probably easier to do when you're not reacting though haha

Jonathan Charles

the Ussop pirate's backstory is so cute, especially the part when they're chasing the "Cereberus" and "Dragon". The imagination of children is so cute. :'D
