"Bastogne"

Immense gratitude for these men persevering through these experiences! This one was extremely heart wrenching... the most haunting episode so far. Excuse the ugly cries, we can't help it. πŸ’”

i know im 6 months late, but him running around to no music and just people screaming MEDIC, constantly. especially from the beginning of the episode where he has hope in his eyes, to the end where they bomb the town and he just stands there, this show is 10 hours of sobbing.

This episode and the next were filmed in England, on massive sound stages inside huge hangars. 300,000lbs of shredded paper and plastic pellets were used to replicate snow, and they brought in real trees, alongside the fake foam ones they'd blow up during artillery barrage. The actors were actually sweating their balls off, and needed to constantly wipe their faces between takes. It's massively impressive that they managed to convey such an illusion of bitter cold. Winters kept shaving because he wanted to upkeep morale among his men. By shaving, it made it look like everything was normal and routine. Guarnere pissing needles might have something to do with him looking for a little joint called Lulu's in the previous episode ;) Gordon, the one who got shot through both shoulders and was paralyzed, eventually regained the use of his arms and legs, but endured severe back pains the rest of his life. Whenever someone would come to congratulate or thank him, giving him hugs or patting him on the back, it would make him suffer immensely, but he always made it a point to never let it be noticed by anyone.

When Hayley cries we all cry 😒...(Kiss too but she cries when someone steps on an ant and we love her for that). Great reaction

If you didn't know. Winters was like 24 years old during the war.

As I mentioned in the last episode, The Battle of the Bulge, as it became known, was one of the last large German Offensive operations of the war. One of the reasons it failed is that the German military was also short of supplies and were depending on overrunning the American supply areas for fuel. The Bulge was defended by not only to 101st, but also the 10th Armored and other groups as well. These supply dumps the Germans were trying for were all destroyed before falling into German hands. In some cases the German tanks ran out of fuel and were just abandoned as they fell back. There is absolutely nothing to apologize for....these episodes are a tough watch (make sure to have tissues handy for the next episode).

"Lemaire managed to evacuate six soldiers from the burning building, but died while attempting to save a seventh wounded. Dr. Prior recovered her remains, and brought them back to her parents wrapped in a white parachute, parachute she had insisted on recovering that very morning to make herself a wedding dress one day." What a tragedy. People should remember that peace is a blessing.

I initially also considered the possibility that he was using the morphine himself, but after watching this show a couple of time, I think he's genuinely just scavenging because he's low on supplies.

Great reaction! This episode is rough.

A woman's display of empathy is a wonderful thing, so regarding the "ugly cries" just keep it coming, lol. Also, the Renee character is based on a real person, "The forgotten Angel of Bastogne" if you wanna look into her story. ANyways, thanks for another great reaction, these really make my week!
