Chapter #6: New professors.

Professor McGonagall couldn’t stop herself from smiling at the students, the world was finally free from evil, Voldemort was gone which meant that people didn’t have to fear for their lives any longer, and most importantly, students would finally be able to study without any other worry on their minds.

Yes, she missed those days, last year was so bad that she was even missing the Weasley twins and their shenanigans, that’s how awful the situation was. It was sad to say goodbye to the friends who gave their lives so others could live but the Scottish professor knew that it would be an insult to them to mourn them forever, they had to keep going to make sure their sacrifice wouldn't be in vain and just like life, she’s planning to continue running the school the only way she knows, and she’s ready to make some chances and welcome new people.

“Good evening everyone, before we start the feast I’d like you to meet some new staff members...” McGonagall managed to catch the attention of all the students. “As you know, due to circumstances that were out of our control, we have some spots open on our staff…First, I’d like you to welcome the new and hopefully permanent as long as she wants because according to what Mr. Potter told me, the curse of the position has been lifted…Let’s welcome Nymphadora Tonks as the new defense against the dark arts professor!” The older witch exclaimed and there were a lot of claps.

Soon, a woman with a dark cloak and pink hair appeared and waved at everyone, the witch was surprised by the reception, she seemed to have forgotten the contribution she made in the battle of Hogwarts, where she protected some of the beloved professors but most of all, the students that joined the fight.

Tonks was a bit sad that in this place, her husband died protecting her but she knew she had to face her fears and the position was open, so, she wanted to contribute and make the world better just like she wanted to do when she started dating Remus.

“Thank you!” Said the older witch with a warm smile.

Soon, she surprised the students by making her hair change colors every second, it didn’t take too long for her to sit and join her old dear professor Sprout who was clearly proud of her former pupil, she waved to Professor Flitwick too as he was her favorite professor when she was a student.

Harry, Hermione, and the rest of the Dumbledore army were surprised but happy at the same time, they knew Tonks was the best choice for the position, however, the metamorphmagus managed to hide that information from them, Harry and Hermione were surprised she managed to save that information for too long.

“I think this is going to be a good year, don’t you think Harry?” Hermione teased him and he couldn’t help but roll his eyes.

Okay, Harry used to have a crush on the older woman, but who could blame him? When you’re a teenager and you suddenly meet a beautiful punk witch saves you from your abusive family, you can’t help but develop a crush on her.

McGonagall suddenly stood up once again and it didn’t take too long for the room to get silent.

“If this war has told us anything is that while there’s evil and good, there’s also a middle ground where some people were only victims of the circumstances, so, after reviewing her case and after all the information that has come out from the trials, I’d like to welcome Narcissa Black as the new potions professor,” McGonagall said with a respectful calm tone.

The room was clearly confused, the Slytherins, of course, those who were on the Malfoy’s family side clapped just like Draco’s former friends.

The older blonde suddenly clarified her voice knowing that someone like her might not have the best reputation, she was carrying the stigma that her husband and son were responsible for, she wasn’t a hypocrite, at some point in her life she believed the same things too.

But that was a long time ago, while she wasn’t a muggle lover, she was neutral about them, she wasn't stupid, and she knew they had good things, their fashion, food, and entertainment, and she hated to admit it but some muggle men were well developed in certain areas to say the least, but she has never been with one, needless to say, that her prejudice doesn’t stop her from ogling at them when she visits those warm beaches in Mexico, South America or Southern Europe.

“First of all…I know that my son and ex-husband don’t have the best reputation…That’s why Lucius is now permanently in Azkaban while Draco will serve a couple of years and then, he’ll continue with home arrest,” Narcissa’s words made everyone feel uneasy.

She was being too direct but she knew she needed to act like this, there was no point pretending nothing happened, and she knew she had no right to demand respect, but at least, she wanted to make sure to make all students realize that she’s not a threat and she has never been, she admits she’s a coward but she knows she’s also human.

“I know there’s nothing I can do to make it up for them and that’s fine, they did their own things and they’re paying and will continue to pay until the day they leave this world…As for myself, I’m alone in this, I know I’m going to lose friendships, and I know my former colleagues are going to hate me but that’s okay…

I want to make a change in the world, I want to pass all my knowledge to you, and I know I’m asking for too much but, if you can give me a chance to prove to you that I’m being honest…

I promise you that there won’t be any favoritisms, no blood supremacy nonsense, in exchange for your trust, you'll have a respectful teacher who'll try to guide you no matter which house you’re in, I know it’s going to take a while for me to earn you trust but I’m going to make sure to give it all for you to give it to me,” Narcissa gave a rare smile at the students.

There was suddenly a silence until Harry started to clap, he felt like he owed a lot to this woman, he got to know her during the trials and he tried his best to help Draco but even if he got a few years, contrary to his father he got off easy, the jury wanted to give him a life sentence.

Soon, seeing the hero clapping made the rest of the students clap too, and soon, everyone was clapping, Narcissa smiled at them and wiped a tear that escaped before she joined the table.

“Thank you, Narcissa…Now, to end with the introductions as I’m sure many of you are hungry, let’s welcome Fleur Delacour who’s taking over the position of Ancient Runes while our dear Bathsheda Babbling is completing another mastery,” McGonagall welcomed a blonde witch who smiled at the students and of course, the male population was awed at her appearance.

“I still can’t believe she and Bill got divorced,” Hermione said to Harry in a low tone.

“War not only killed people, my love,” Harry said before sighing and giving Hermione a soft kiss on her hair.

“And lastly, Let me introduce you to Andromeda Black who will be teaching the muggle studies class!” McGonagall said and a tall curly, dark-haired witch bowed at them.

They recognized her for her efforts as a healer during the battle of Hogwarts, so, everyone clapped at her, Harry and Hermione couldn’t help but smirk, she was married to a muggle for a long time, and she was perfect for the position, this was truly going to be an interesting year or at least it will be for Hermione as she had not so innocent intentions with her new professors.
