Chapter #14: The third test, part III.

Harry and his companions were startled by the sight, the giant skeleton dragon woke up and shocked the place with a roar that clearly was a threat, the dragon wasn’t going to let anyone pass and the group wanted to get to the door as fast as they could but suddenly, the door was locked, which meant that there was no other way to solve this than to fight the dragon, the message was clear.

However, they had other things to worry about, because as soon as Victoire suddenly moved an inch, it caused the dragon to move like crazy and it didn't take too long before it started to attack them with fire. Luckily Charlie was a dragon expert, so, he knew what to do, first, he made a special shield appear, one used often in dragon reserves.

“T-This is too much…” Victoire said completely scared.

Sensing how scared and stressed she was, Harry ran as fast as he could to catch her before she fell on the floor, Hermione was looking at the notebook that Lola’s husband gave them while Lucero was searching for something in the bag she had brought.

“Okay, I think this is it…” Hermione said with a worried tone. “To defeat a skeleton dragon you must hit it in three key parts…The heart, the head, and the back!” Hermione said. “Also, let’s retreat, it seems like until we reach a certain point, it doesn’t attack us, according to the notebook, retreating is allowed,” Hermione added with a confident tone.

Soon, everyone did as the brown-haired witch said, they moved back to the starting point, and surprisingly, the dragon stopped breathing fire, the thing still had that murderous aura, though.

“Well, that sounds doable…Wait a minute!” Harry said before he cast the lumos spell in its permanent form to finally light the whole room.

The five adventurers were surprised to see that there were three gems on the key parts of the dragon, there was a ruby that acted like a heart, a sapphire on the head, and an emerald on the back.

“Those gems are huge I don’t know why we didn’t see them before,” Charlie was getting more and more interested.

“I think they got activated once the dragon started spitting fire!” Even though she was scared, Victoire was more than ready to indulge herself in her curse-breaker shenanigans.

Lucero was surprised by the attitude of the blonde and she couldn’t help but blush, the veela was acting so cool right now.

“I can’t think of any other way to reach the gems than flying,” Charlie suddenly said before sighing.

And even though it’s been years, Hermione couldn’t help but groan, she hated flying, but she could see the logic in that plan though, however, there was a problem here.

“Well, I see that your logic makes sense, however, there’s a problem here, how the hell are we going to fly?” Hermione sincerely wondered.

She didn’t know how to feel about it, she hated flying but at this point, this seemed the only way to defeat the monster, and everyone but Lucero started to get worried.

“It’s okay…I brought this,” Lucero suddenly showed them three brooms.

Hermione groaned once again while the rest were happy and relieved, now they were going to be able to face the beast.

“We need to work smarter, not harder, that’s why I’ve decided to become a distraction to the dragon,” Charlie suddenly stepped up.

They wanted to stop him from doing that, however, he was the dragon expert here, and there was no better person suited for the task, even if Harry saw himself as powerful, against a dragon there’s not a lot you can do if you don't deal with them often, and Charlie, as an expert dragon tamer has managed to prove himself, his experience says a lot, especially considering that he has been working on something with a high mortality rate for more than twenty years.

“Well, if that’s the case then…Lucero, are you a good flier?” Asked Harry with a smirk and the Mexican witch nodded. “Please take Hermione with you, she’s bad when it comes to flying but she's comfortable while someone else rides it, trust me, I’ve seen her flying with her husband and she looked happy!” Harry mocked his best friend who was blushing heavily.

“Prat...F-fine, I’ll attack the thing but please, don’t say anything else…” Hermione was so embarrassed right now.

“Victoire…You’re coming with me, I want you to attack the gem while I control the broom,” Harry’s words made the blonde feel so flustered.

She was indeed going to fly around a dragon and her life might be in danger but Harry was going to be with her, he was going to be behind her, they were going to be so close and she wanted to collapse so bad due to the embarrassment, however, she knew she had to act like a mature adult and get used to the idea, so, she nodded at the older man showing that she was ready.

“I’ll do it,” Victoire said with a confident tone that made Harry smile at her.

“Well, now that the teams are decided, Hermione and Lucero, you two focus on the one on the back while Victoire and Harry should focus on the one on the head, that’s the most dangerous one but if there’s a better flier than me in this room is Harry, don’t think I don’t remember the first task in the Triwizard tournament,” Charlie smiled at Harry who just shrugged his shoulders. “I’ll focus on the one in the heart, don’t worry about me,” Charlie said before he jumped on the broom.

“Let’s get off the ground at the count of three…One, two, three!” Harry screamed and soon, all of them were randomly flying around the place to confuse the dragon.

Victoire was nervous as Harry held her from behind but she was holding her wand as tightly as she could, Hermione couldn't help but let out a scream that lasted for a few seconds until she finally focused on getting her wand ready as Lucero hugged her from behind.

“This is going to be easy guys, you two attack first and I’ll distract him!” Charlie told them but then, something happened.

The dragon decided to free himself from whatever was holding him on the ground, Charlie knew it was weird that the dragon was still on the ground even though he was in attack mode, the dragon suddenly decided to fly to the highest point it could, this place was like a tower because it seemed to endlessly go up.

“Let’s go!” Harry said trying to get his friends to focus.

This clearly destroyed their plans but they needed to keep on going. Soon, they tried to approach the dragon but the thing was launching fire attacks without mercy and he was launching them everywhere.

“I need to get there!” Charlie said to himself.

He knew the dragon was cursed, he needed to free the dragon from this so it could finally rest in peace.

Hermione, Victoire, and Charlie tried their best to counterattack and put shields but the dragon was just too strong, still, that didn’t stop them from trying.

“Let’s focus on getting close!” Charlie screamed as he saw himself getting closer and closer to the dragon.

Charlie was so lost in his objective that he didn't have time to react when the dragon decided to face him.

“I have an idea, it’s a crazy one but it could work, Charlie distract it please!” Harry told the redhead with a serious tone and soon his broom continued to go upwards.

Lucero and Hermione followed suit and Charlie was surprised the dragon didn’t follow them, still, he decided to take his chance and attack the gem on the heart, but the dragon was faster, it decided to shove Charlie with its skull tail and that was enough to make Charlie feel like losing the balance.

Charlie could feel it, the dragon was about to attack him now that he was helpless, however, his eyes suddenly widened the moment he saw Harry and Hermione falling from the sky, Harry had a serious expression while Hermione was screaming like crazy, things just were getting worse.
