“Thank you so much for coming over Hermione,” Harry said with a happy expression as he hugged her.
“Don’t worry, as long as I can study interesting people, I’ll always try to help you as much as I can!” The doctor said with a smirk.
“Still…I thank you for coming outside your work hours, tell Andromeda I say hi and tell her I’ll visit her and Teddy as soon as I get some free time,” Harry told his best friend.
“Yes you should, she has been telling me lately how much she misses talking with you and Teddy misses his godfather too…I’m sure you can ask for a day off in the Auror department as long as you get notified if something happens, it’s been a long time since you’ve asked for a break, even if you're being punished after you killed Malfoy, the ministry is obliged by law to give you a break from time to time, so, when you get that break, let’s do something together the four of us!” Hermione suggested and Harry nodded.
“That’d be cool but please, try to restrain yourselves, I know Andy and you've been dating for almost a year and all that stuff but Teddy and I don’t want to look like third wheels!” Harry told his best friend.
It was surprising that Hermione was now dating Andromeda Tonks, Andy was Hermione's teacher when she was studying to get her psychiatry degree at the ministry, it seems like the older woman had a thing for muggle-born magical people, however, he has no complaints about it, actually, he’s happy someone he trusts is with her and her grandson, especially when he hasn’t had time to visit them.
“Well I better get going or else that woman is going to get worried…Oh, and please Harry…Don’t tell Daphne that I think she’s fit to get an audience,” Hermione now was a little serious.
“Really? Why?” The hero of the world was a little confused, there were many reasons why his friend could be saying this but he wanted to hear Hermione’s reasoning.
“Well, I don’t know how well informed you are about the recent movements in the Auror department but it seems like they’re investigating some mysterious deaths of former death eaters who swore they were imperioused and got released without being punished, and considering you’re the only person who would want to take justice on your own hands and because you’ve been stuck here this just tells me one thing…That’s not the work of a vigilante,” Hermione finished with a serious expression.
“Really? Certainly, it’s hard to believe that there would be another person as crazy as me to be hunting those people, so, could that be an act of vengeance?” Asked the emerald-eyed man with a raised brow.
“Yes, that’s what I think, there are still many of Voldemort’s strong commanders out there that haven’t been caught yet, I’m sure it would be no problem for them to take down the traitors, I think the same thing happened after you killed Voldemort as a baby,” Hermione said with a serious tone and Harry caressed his chin as he agreed with her theory.
“Sadly I had no idea about this, the people in the Auror department are so restrictive to me now, they barely share information fearing I could kill the people they're investigating, but if what you say it’s the truth then Daphne could be a target if they get to know she’s going to have an audience,” Harry said and his best friend nodded.
“Exactly…That’s why I think we should keep this information for ourselves until the day of the audience, we don’t want this information to be leaked,” Hermione told her best friend and he agreed with her.
After that, the ambient became a little somber, they nodded and hugged each other for the last time before they finally said their goodbyes, but Harry was still standing at the front door as he thought about what he heard, he’s going to need to have some words with his superiors for hiding this information from him.
The next morning…
Harry woke up to a surprise today, Daphne was eating her breakfast at an incredible speed, and that was something surprising because he thought she hated that simple coffee and bread she has to eat every day, he was a little worried she might choke but he still decided to let her be.
“Uh…Why are you eating so fast?” Harry couldn’t help but ask her.
Daphne didn’t say anything, she just ate the last piece of bread and took the last sip of coffee before she stared at her guard.
“There’s something I want to do in my garden, so, I need as much time as possible,” she said hurriedly and Harry was curious about what she was planning to do. “I can do that, right? Finishing breakfast as early as possible and then having my outdoor time, right?” Asked the blonde worried about the schedule and Harry remained in silence for a few moments.
He was a little worried she could be plotting something, but then, he remembered the convo they had with Hermione the previous day and soon, he brushed those thoughts off and nodded at her.
“Sure, would you like to get outside already?” He asked her with a slight smirk on his face.
“Yes!” She said cheerfully and soon, Harry was leading the way, it didn't take too long for them to be already outside the house.
Daphne was looking at the landscape in front of her and it was a little depressing, even though it had been raining lately, the grass seemed to be slowly dying which probably indicated that the soil probably needed fertilizer, but the grass wasn’t the only reason why she was here.
“So…Care to tell me what are you planning to do?” Asked Harry with a calm but curious tone.
“Flowers,” she said with a soft smile on her face.
Harry was a little taken aback by what she said, he was looking around and there were no flowers in the garden, in fact, the place almost looked like a wasteland, even though a month ago things looked pretty good out here, however, he knew Daphne hasn't been emotionally well which seemed to have taken a toll on the garden.
Even though she has been acting like a good girl, it seems like Daphne has been too unhappy and he understood that because he was in the same state as her, he contributed to the current state of this garden too, and he was feeling a little guilty about it.
“Uh, there are no flowers here Daphne,” Harry stated the obvious, he was fearing the woman would’ve gone insane already which would be a bad thing for his career.
If he managed to make her lose her mind then he was going to have lots of problems in the ministry and it's not like he fears being fired but he hates when he gets yelled at, it brings back bad memories from his childhood.
“Yes, you’re right Harry…There are no flowers here and the grass looks horrible and that’s a problem, don’t you think?” Asked the blonde with a concerned expression.
Harry couldn’t believe it, Daphne Greengrass, the former death eater, one of the most promising members of Voldemort’s youths, was showing interest in something aside from chaos, destruction, and mayhem? All those things were against nature and now she seemed to be concerned about nature, this had been a crazy day and it had just started.
“When I was growing up, my uncles forced me to take care of their garden, but even if they were trying to do it to punish me…I loved doing that, the calm that you get, the time you spend working on something like this by yourself was something I really loved…So, yes, it’s a problem to have such a beautiful garden ruined like this,” Harry admitted and she stared at him with an interested expression.
He had revealed something very deep and personal to her and she couldn’t help but feel something strange, she didn’t know what it was but it was a funny feeling.
“Yes…You’re right…That’s why I want to work on this garden, I want to make it look better than this, and even though I’m limited by the range I'm allowed to walk before I get restricted, I want to at least work with that, I want to put lots of flowers here, I want to make this grass even greener than it has been,” she said with a soft smile on her face.
She remembers those days when she and Astoria were young and they wanted to live in the mountains surrounded by flowers, trees, and nature, without worries, the only thing they wanted was a peaceful life back then, yes, those were the simple days she wanted to relieve.
“Well, if that’s the case then it makes sense you'd want to have as much time possible to work on this,” Harry said with a calm expression.
“So, can I do it then?” She asked with a raised brow and a playful grin that made Harry feel something strange arising inside him.
“I see no problem,” Harry told her and she jumped excitedly but then, she remembered she was supposed to be a mature pureblood witch and regained her composure. “And if you need help or something, don’t hesitate to ask me,” Harry finished with the coolest smirk Daphne had seen in her life.
She couldn’t help but blush at the sight.
