Do you think the show did a well enough job seeding Yaz's feelings for the Doctor?

I think there has been a good amount of seeds planted I just don't see them making it work I could see Jodie either regenerating and she will have to leave Yaz behind or Yas might die before getting to be with her

2022-02-19 21:13:50 +0000 UTCMy only real problem with it is that Chibnal's run is coming to an end, and they usually change all the actors with a show-runner change so the potential romance will likely be cut short without there actually being time to really explore it.

2022-01-08 10:38:36 +0000 UTCConsidering they've not talked about her sexuality at all before it seems rushed and a way to gain more viewers, could have been done alot better tbh.

2022-01-07 14:06:55 +0000 UTCYaz's feeling for The Doctor felt forced and out of nowhere. They spent the first two series building up Yaz and Ryan, and then he left the show and it feels like they just wanted a romantic arc in place. This just didn't work for me, and even Dan outing Yaz to both herself AND The Doctor was very poorly handled in my opinion. Other than that, great New Years Special!
2022-01-06 20:51:21 +0000 UTCEver since the last season or last special after Graham and Ryan left, I've long suspected Yaz might have romantic feelings for The Doctor. This just confirms it.

2022-01-05 16:32:17 +0000 UTCIt was being rumored from the start of 13’s run that they’d do it just to do it. I dunno, I just wish they’d had a better showrunner for this Doctor. I feel like a lot of stuff that wasn’t done well could have been done a lot better without actually having to change much, and this falls into that category.

2022-01-05 02:40:30 +0000 UTCI liked the development a lot, it was very background but still clear that Yaz's feelings for the doctor ran deeper. It feels like Rose and 10 again but now with the doctors experience, it doesn't look very reciprocated. If your on doctor who tik tok then you might have seen all the cool edits of the fireworks scene this ep with Rose being pulled into the void and with River dying in the library which are all really sad but they suggest that 13 is afraid of repeating the past and so maybe that's why she refuses to open up to yaz about anything

2022-01-05 02:24:46 +0000 UTCNo they’ve done a terrible job at saying anything since chibnall took over the guy cannot write plots and now this yaz thing has only happened to tick some boxes but it’s pointless because the doctors gonna change after the next episode and could be a man again
2022-01-05 00:27:15 +0000 UTCYes but with there being only two Jodie episodes left it feels a bit too "bury your gays" which kinda sucks. Especially as with a new show runner Davies will likely change companions so he can have his own original ones.

2022-01-04 22:40:53 +0000 UTCYa specially last season i got a feeling that she had feelings for the doctor

2022-01-04 22:39:51 +0000 UTCI feel it was "seeded" well, with little hints here and there, but also that it was a bit ambiguous. Until this episode it could have been left unmentioned as a potential crush in the background which had no story impact, or it could be teasing something down the line. I do think they left it a bit late to pull the pin on this relationship focus, as two specials with Chibnall don't seem enough to properly address it, unless as you guys said, they pull an Eccleston/Tennant in having Yaz stick around with the 14th Doc to explore a change in their dynamic. So far we've had the 9+10 with Rose dynamic where she goes from a crush to full-blown love, and we've had the Clara dynamic with 11 and 12 where the show even addresses The Doctor is no longer Clara's "hot young boyfriend", becoming more of a father figure or best friend. I think it would be interesting if we had a new dynamic where 13 may rebuff or be hesitant to be romantically tied with anyone (Yaz included), only for Yaz to reject and leave a more romantically "available" 14th Doctor due to changes you mentioned (such as gender/sexuality), or perhaps being heartbroken at the loss of Jodie's specific 13th Doctor.

2022-01-04 22:39:23 +0000 UTCShe got the most upset whenever The Doctor would leave her behind and when she refuses to tell her stuff. She was also the driving force in trying to return to The Doctor whenever they got separated.

2022-01-04 22:16:34 +0000 UTCYes, in the sense that I first noticed the hints way back in Arachnids in the UK. I kind of thought I was reading too much into it at the time since, unfortunately, Yaz lacked a lot of focus while Ryan and Graham were around but there were still a few subtle hints I noticed here and there. I'm kind of reserving judgement about this whole thing until Chibnall's era ends but it does bug me that this is only coming up now so close to the end of Yaz's run (since it's very unlikely she'll stick around after Chibnall/Whittaker leave).
Katherine Jennings
2022-01-04 21:54:37 +0000 UTCYou are talking about "Arachnids in the UK," when Yaz's mom asks her if she & the doctor are dating. Yaz defensively denies it, but the doctor isn't sure. That is also I think the first time you had to wonder

2022-01-04 21:19:31 +0000 UTCYes, it was subtle and didn't become her primary character trait, which I appreciate

2022-01-04 21:03:09 +0000 UTCYeah its been a thing brewing since the fourth episode of Season 11 and it was allowed to subtly develop unlike Martha with Ten or Clara with Eleven.

2022-01-04 20:53:57 +0000 UTCUnlike most of series 13, I think the show did a good job with this character arc for Yaz and the Doctor.

2022-01-04 20:45:50 +0000 UTCIt’s been more subtle than say Rose or Martha, which I appreciate. It stems from a deep admiration of the Doctor leading up to where we’re at now. I’m not the biggest fan of Chibnall’s writing, but I think this was solid.

2022-01-04 20:42:18 +0000 UTCYeah, I think so. I like that it was subtle. As much as I adore RTD, that Martha crap was beaten over our heads way too hard and for way too long. (He said no, Martha, give it up girl!) That and, as much as I like Freema, Mandip is a better actor and pulled it off better.
